I think that both movies deserve to be starred. I feel that they very different, to the extent that they both have something worthy of showing newcomers what TAS is all about. The 16-star one shows what breaking the game badly looks like, through crazy BLJ in places never expected and completing certain stars out of the intended sequence. It serves the purpose of showing how TASes can exploit game engines to complete a game fast, which is extremely impressive. The 120-star run is entertaining on very different grounds. It exhibits more variety with the different stages and it keeps the viewer wondering all the time why is something being done and which stars are going to be taken next. This element of surprise I can say is equally worthy of crediting. The length may be an issue, but I was thinking... just publish the m64 together with save states, or encode the movie in several parts, each featuring a world, and then make a torrent of the whole thing. It's a long movie I admit, but if the concern is that it becomes too long and that the viewer doesn't have time for it, rather than it becoming repetitive, then breaking the movie up will definitely make it look less intimidating. I hope both runs get starred... they deserve it, and beginners ought to be introduced to both

The only thing I saw that looked wrong (but there is actually no known faster way around) is having to back track to get the lure key again instead of picking it up with the platinum tip. Oh well, it kinda sucked seeing the player forced to backtrack even if he had broken the sequence of events

I guess this requires updating as well... thanks Maximus: I guess this means that you should keep the file name consistent on the webhost to prevent 404 of the links on the download page

Rock on dude! Shoutout to all editors... the downloads page really need an updating as mentioned earlier! As soon as this becomes more portable, it ought to gain a place on that page as a all-in-one movie editor... Not much to ask for already; most requests have already been mentioned. I just hope that the new version would make it much easier to edit/copy individual player tracks rather than having to work with both player inputs together.

Definitely a YES... just from the WIPs and test runs! Route-planning is superb for the 100 coins! Edit: Eh, if this gets published, which I believe it will, I really think that the m64 should be released with saves before each world like what Spez made... it would be much easier on viewers who can't sit through the whole thing at one sitting, or want to watch a particular parts of it in advance for whatever reason etc. Just for convenience sake...

I don't think these are accepted for submission... Probably have to check with the moderators to see how this can be worked around

WOW! So we can 'easily' expect a sub 15:30? Neat! Never expected the revisions to the route to save yet another 10s again... Rikku, you should have came earlier :P

Very nice, easy YES vote, not that it would matter... at least for once Willy got the ending he deserved; kissing meggerman's shoes!

If I am not wrong, the standard is to end input when you have finally bypassed the last message box etc, and the game can reach the THE END screen without the viewer pressing anything extra. If it takes entering your initials before the game finally shows the THE END screen, then do it... EDIT: I just watched the WIP, and I think it's pretty nice... but just that the delay between shots irritate me :( One more thing, I was hoping to see some variations to the perfect play, ever tried using B all the time to kill, ie without zooming in. That would be o.0 for the viewer... though don't over use it; use it sparingly as a I really can pwn without looking like of move. If it becomes more polish, I would vote a YES easily. It really makes a hard game look easy

Hmmm, i was reading gamefaqs, and this sounds cool:

But then you need to run through the game to get a legit SRAM, which may be tedious...

Check out the Mario64 thread. I think AKA may be considering redoing the run, if more tricks etc are found.

My movie is a lot more improvable than 13 frames, if the newer strategies save enough time I'd be prepared to redo.
As for the improvements, here's what bkDJ said

Holy crap. Bowser 1's level is noticibly faster, and yet the beginning still seems somewhat optimizable. the ascent to star 3 seemed faster as well. both the ccm stars seem optimizable. entering Whomp's Fortress seemed much faster. overall I'd say AKA had the best camera angles but Rikku had some better ones sometimes. I liked being able to see what was going on with the lobby glitch. If we could combine the best of both, and add some minor other improvements (like using the windless areas behind the pillars on the final platform of the game to gain some speed maybe?) this run could be sub 15:30.

Eh... Rikku just posted a complete run on Dehack's microstorage which beats this by 13 frames... http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/2867/SUPER%20MARIO%2064.m64

Huh?!? Is this complete? You managed 56406 which is faster than AKA's 56419. Wait... I gotta verify this Edit: THIS LOOKS LEGIT! Rikku completes it faster than AKA!!! Oddly enough, some things don't look as optimized... for one, I felt that Rikku seemed to take longer to get through the first door with MIPS, though he seems to pick MIPS up nearer to the door to begin with. Bowser 2 was funny, Mario for once took damage... but shouldn't that slow him down too? All the tricks were same, but in some cases the setup was different, which may explain the few frames saved. OMG Rikku you are amazing, surprising us twice with amazing runs. Hmmm, does this mean AKA movie which got published in a day would get obsoleted now?

But, Bisqwit has stated that no matter what i create he can make my movie 40 frames faster at least.
You know, in Chinese Wuxia movies, the kungfu master always retains like 1% of their knowledge that is not passed on to their disciples... maybe it's this 1% that allows Bisq a 40 frames advantage over you LOL

I guess Vatchern has already set out the premise of his run... ie nothing that abuses anything unintended by the programmers even if it is reproducable without TAS easily. So with that, I guess it's pretty clear what he is aiming for, and I will respect his decision for the run ;) Anyway, who can refuse another megaman run... for once we get to enjoy the full unabridged thing!

Also, an entirely no-glitch movie would somewhat be contradictory to the goals of this site.
Then how about prohibiting only zipping glitch?
That would work... together with pause+>damage trick prohibition, I guess? Or does someone not want to watch a three-minute long Wily1 boss fight? :)
I am started already on working on this. Even though, Bisqwit you have more experience than me with TASing megaman1, I hope you will improve my attempt by alot. I am using no glitches period. EDIT: also, great discovery in wily2. i loved it.
I personally think that the pause+damage trick ought to be allowed... since it really shortens boss fights which get tedious after a while (especially willy1). As long as the tricks could be performed easily enough on a console, I think it should be included; in other words, I would like a no-zip run rather than a no-glitch run. It would be like the standard no warp tag, since zipping is like warping through parts of the stage and avoiding enemies/bosses.

Ps: I'm finally ready to state that this game has been broken.
I hope this doesn't mean this run gets put in the too-totally-obliterated-beyond-recognition concept demo sections... EDIT: Hmmm, the flamewar from page 3 onwards isn't too constructive for this thread... maybe some moderator should delete/move it away. It's almost as though page 2 was the last page with useful discussions on the submission

Lol... so this has become your submission? Will take a look at it EDIT: It may be a 4 minute improvement, but I just don't feel wow-ed by the run. I guess it's the game, not the run... Btw, at around 15500, you change into the mouse for a short while. Wouldn't it be faster staying in your normal form for that area, rather than going through 2 morphing sequences and a menu screen?
You mean the part at the treetops? I tested that, and it's a little bit faster. Biped Widget has to take the long way around to the left first, has to take some damage on the way, can't make the final jump, can't zip there because of the enemy placement, and in killing some of the enemies is confronted with a nasty snake on the final platform.
Other than that, I couldn't find anything big to complain about. I guess I would have to give it a weak YES

I think Sonic running in midair (Ice Cap, Flying Battery) would be a much better shot. Easy to loop, simpe to draw, etc
I would think S3+K Carnival Night glitch would be hilarious. First you see Sonic on a carousel, then he get flung off violently, and he runs around disoriented LOL

I've got this on my phone for over half a year now... couldn't figure out where to go after a while. I think it was incomplete, but hey, mine was probably an old version. Now if only my savefile from the older version can be carried over...
