Well, I personally have lots of respect for Morimoto and FinalFighter, though their runs are gradually disappearing from the site. They ought to be in a hall of fame or something, since they were among the pioneers and glorifiers of TAS.

Wow... for a moment I thought you were gone for good! Haha... I made a bit of progress on stage 2-1, but it's coming along slowly. Heck, the game is awfully random; makes the simplest manipulation hellish :S I finally realised how useful Roadkill is! His attack can 'easily' (after tons of manipulation) bump enemies out of the screen, which makes getting rid of then fast, and also gets rid of some speech which speeds up the game! The arena part was quite hellish.. I was quite surprised that I could use a single plane to clear the two strigils and gravis together, that is after much manipulation. I am really excited about this run, initially when I started it, I was worried that there weren't enough bugs and glitches so the run would be pretty much like yours. But I realised otherwise now! I don't think I can get it under 10 minutes... but I may be able to get it sub 11. Hoping for the best now haha

Hmmm, I think if rerecording can be implemented, then probably someone may be interested. But then again, implementing rerecording would be deemed too much work for flash games, and considering that most of flash games developed are intended as coffee break games, I doubt there would be little interest in them I guess.

Oh... those are from a Japanese Kids show called Pythagorean Switch. It carved a name out for itself after featuring Rube Goldbergs every episode. Haha, its the only kids TV show that I know fansubbers are releasing over IRC lol

Hmmm, check this out then: http://youtube.com/watch?v=1kvdq8cRNBM It's some crazy Japanese's idea of a Rube Goldberg device... I won't spoil it for you... just sit through the 6 minute of it to get a surprise at the end

Completed stage 1-2... and I'm 30 seconds ahead of Zer0's run already. WIP 25 seconds saved on the second stage, by means of better luck manipulation, and making some enemies and arrows to the next cel appear much earlier. Not sure how those work exactly, but found out that interacting with the environment (like cranking switches at 30Hz) at times can prevent Alissa from popping up and giving lame advice, which means I could make the events occur earlier... Changed the method of completing a few cels which were much more efficient as compared to Zer0's methods. The single biggest time saver would probably be the boss battle, where I accidentally found a glitch. This allowed me to kill him in a single blow, though I also have no idea how it happened. It's one of those glitches that seem to work out better in real time play than under frame advance. All in all, progress is slow, but the run is looking good :) any comments?

I think the microphone is a trick microphone... something like those retractable swords. Image if he actually swallowed the whole microphone, he wouldn't be able to tilt his head forward since it should keep the whole length of the oesophagus straight... It's probably some German April's Fool joke or something. Still it was pretty funny... haha

Hmmm... the .NET framework I downloaded (for win98) was only 23mb. Hex editing is a hassle, so i think it's worthwhile for me

Highness: I think your friend's editor no longer works with the newer versions of GMV... can't seem to get it to load the movie...

I'm assuming this is a range clear (not clear ALL frames) you're looking for.
Ah, yes. But thinking about it now, being able to edit multiple frames at once would be suffice since I can clear those frames altogether. But still a clear frame would be convenient if not too much hassle

I can't believe it... the 'whip/sword' launch into the wall is even more efficiently done, and the more pwnage final fight! Damn, can't believe it still.. sub-30 is crazy! Watched 2 wonderful HoD runs today... both ought to be t3h 1337s!

Yup, just tried it... pretty nice to have a GUI for once! Hmmm, just some nitpicking with the interface: how about adding a clear frames(not remove frames) function in the right-click drop down, and also allow editing multiple frames at once, ie highlight and change a number of frames to issue the same command. GMV works nicely, though I can't seem to get the "go to frame" function working properly

FODA probably owns at the game already... I saw one of the replays bundled with the installer from him (see king-tekken2.rpl)... racked up an insane 200k points :S

The one problem with this idea is that a nice one or two word link doesnt always clarify the goal of the run (when I see Super Metroid "minmal," I dont see a clear difference between that and "any%"). There might be some cases where a sentence is needed to explain the goal of the run, but I dont think the occaisonal sentence would cause any noticeable clutter, since in most cases one or two words will do.
I guess this can be easily solved by including a proper description of the goals in the publication writeup. Not much of a problem as I see it. Finally we have got a feasible solution on our hands to put the concept demo debate to rest... for good I hope

Bisqwit just took #1336, better make it quick JXQ. Can't wait for the final product, the route sounds good!

I'm abstainin. The game is so broken that it's barely watchable. Remember when speedruns were fun to watch becuase you saw someone playing hard games like Mega Man flawlessly? Now when people make speedruns they forget the "fun" and focus only on speed. So instead of something like, for example, morimoto's absolutely wonderful rockman 2 run where he destroyed the game by doing it lightning quick and not getting hit, which looks great, we get runs that just have rock zipping through walls at lightning speed, walking through enemies and glitching up the screen so badly that you can't tell what's going on. As far as I'm concerned this is the same category as glitched runs of zelda 2, zelda 3, castlevania circle of the moon and rygar.
In a way, it's true that with more revisions and inclusions of time-saving bugs, we are deforming the games more and more in our TAS runs. I guess our proficiency at exploiting games now is giving us a headache on categorizing if the game is still a recognizably legit TAS or a conceptual demo. True, this run goes through every stage of the game, but not exactly as intended by the game designers. It is broken to the extent that the compulsary refights featured in every rockman/megaman game is totally by-passed... I am not sure if this is considered a full run with all the debate going on about concept demos and stuff. Still, the new discovery was magnificent and worth a YES.

Any work still being done with EME? The screenshot FODA conceptualized on page 1 kicked ass... would the source of EME be integrated into Gens? Highness: Your link is broken... any way to get it back up and working? I would like to try it for a movie I am working on now.

I didn't quite like it... not the run, but the game itself. Most of it was too slow moving and forced me to fast forward through about 20-30% of it (most of it was on the surface map). The damage boost on stage 4 was nicely done though. I am YESing it for better optimization over an existing run

I was thinking for a while, and why not add a new option when voting for a submission, ie 'To be published as a Concept Demo' option. Perhaps letting the masses decide can save the needless debate each time

JXQ: 2 questions 1) Why do you not take the lure key earlier at about frame 58500? It would have saved you the backtracking time later, wouldn't it? 2) Why does the door glitch not work on the first try in some places? You seem to have to go in and out of the door and back sliding twice before getting warped... I usually don't experience such a thing when trying to glitch. kyo3000: That wasn't TASed was it? That's a nice run, considering it's an obsolete one. Ever thought of redoing one for SDA? They haven't got a HoD run to my knowledge... Just a bit of refining, eg sliding more to clear monsters, and using down+kick to travel downwards faster etc. For the last part, you could have used the saveroom to get to the final battle area faster too, which sort of puzzled me why you didn't. What impresses me though is on your selection and use of sub-weapons; that's pretty neat planning. You can execute the door glitch very well too... it usually takes me like 5 tries in and out before I nail it In any case, route-wise JXQ decided not to take the icebook, which makes the strategizing quite different from yours... OgreSlayeR: Worked for me about an hour ago

I am also inclined to try for a 100% on the first play through too. I usually try not to refer to any walkthru/FAQs when trying to complete a game. But sometimes, I think game designers are just out to make their games un-100%-able without a official guidebook of FAQ. Heck, I was playing Castlevania HoD a while back, and managed to find all collectibles except 1... which I only found finally after using a map guide on gamefaqs. Sheesh... even now I somehow only managed to uncover 199.6% of the whole map, and I have totally no idea where the last 0.04% is... and backtracking to find all the special rooms is just tedious and frustrating! I feel that when people start trying to 100% complete a game, it starts to take the fun out of the game, especially if the secrets are too well hidden... sure, it gives you a sense of achievement when you finally realised you can bust through a particular wall, but only after spending 3 hours rounding the whole map aimlessly trying to find which wall it is? It just kills the experience... As for savestates, I am guilty of using them a lot too... but usually on my first play through of games. For me, savestates are like bookmarks which I can revert to after I do some exploration of the map and realise there is nothing worth doing ahead. It saves time when it comes to backtracking. I have a weird habit of not using the in-game saves, but instead using a savestate at precisely where the in-game savepoints are, cos it allows me to load the game faster when I intend to continue it, which is good for an impatient gamer like me. I hate playing games that forces you to save a long distance away from some insane crappy boss battle who are capable of wiping you out in 3 turns etc only to have to replay the last 15 minutes of the game and go into the boss battle again without a nearer savepoint (ie Legend of Legaia). Such games only make me wish the console had a button for savestates. Game designers in a way force us to invent savestates, cos they do not supply sufficient number of savepoints, and making the game too unpredictable/luck-based for normal play.
