The movie wasn't really that entertaining in my opinion. Was neat in several places but overall just seemed like a meh Super Mario Bros. run.
While the movie seems reasonable within itself (reasonable/vaultable goal, improvement of published movie), I do wonder if this branch (along with the other published branch) should still retain the Moons rating.
Let me explain, the original deathless movie currently has an average entertaining rating of 7, solid for Moons. However, the next movie had a significant drop to 5.2, which is arguably Vault level ratings.
All the improvements in this movie (as the author states) are just minor optimizations, and in my opinion, don't significantly impact the entertainment rating compared to the current published movie.
Considering all this, should this movie inherit Moons or should it be downgraded to Vault (along with the currently published movie)?
I don't see how it would be considered Moons either, I would personally drop this down too the vault.

It is interesting watching this right after watching FractalFusion's standard rom Password Glitch tas. In this one there are some things I question. A lot of unnecessary damage is being taken at times. Is the chest armor really necessary, wouldn't Chameleon's power work better to reduce damage? Also there is a lot of lag at parts, but i don't see you shooting in advance to clear some enemies out. On several bosses there are several spots where it looks like you should have hit them since they were vulnerable again, but delayed, like boomer kuwanger or that dino head boss. Not really sure about this tas...
The menuing is suboptimal too as you can see from the comparison encode.

Interesting concept. But I don’t really see a need for another one of these meme category TASes being published. Movies like these should stay in the movie files section and not in submissions meant for TASes intended to be published.
As for the run itself, optimizations looked fine to me (I am not qualified to say much so don’t take my word for it) up until the bowser section in 8-4 where you waited a bit on Bowser to hit the axe, you definitely don’t need to do that.
The run felt simple and didn’t look visually entertaining, it just felt like a RTA run expect it did a bunch of walljumps. This run just visually isn’t very impressive.

Interesting idea for a simple shoot em up design
I don’t get when you shoot them they freeze, is it to make it easier to clear them out?
The gameplay isn’t too special in it’s own regard however, so there is that downfall. This is a game you would play for like 5 minutes (after 30 minutes of punching it into an old C64 if you were that kid) and get bored instantly.

While the chosen goal has the downside of not being greatly exploited at the beginning and ending of the TAS, and thus giving a bad initial impression, it indeed provides some new and fancy tricks and glitches. I'm voting yes.
By the way, I always wondered why there isn't any SMB TAS which completes the game also in the second quest, since it can be essentially considered the game's Hard Mode. For this specific objective it would perhaps be proven interesting, because all Goombas are replaced with Buzzy Beetles, which could be shell-exploited as much as the Troopas.

This was already verified by the people running the chinese tasbot, but that was on a copy-cart on a stand-alone famicom. This was one was verified on a real Famicom Disk System with a real floppy disk and it synced. Because the FDS loads are inconsistent, it is somewhat surprising that it managed to sync, so I believe this has its own merit to be linked instead.
