Uh... I don't think anyone would use it... really... Two people need to KNOW game and be comunicating during playing and every load or save would give troubles to the-one-who-did-not-do-it =)

Some levels may be redone (hex-editing works perfectly). Currently I am having problems with 21st level, I am ~1 second behind unassisted record and is looking for improvements... Levels are getting larger, more complex and interesting, this game is really worth TASing. I don't know about watching though ^^

I can't find it :( If I had a video of that record... Spent few hours trying to figure out =( EDIT: I did it, my time is 05"33 now, that's equal to the know record, but I wonder how can that be reproduced unassisted... Not much progress, few levels are redone (8th is ~2 seconds faster), I have exams now, and it's not going well =( http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/3431/kuru1-10.vbm I thought to take two levels from Foda's WIP, as times were better there (almost 1 second on level 07), but frame count comparsion showed that my versions are still shorter (and frame length is my primary goal, ingame timer should not show time worse then unassisted record too). I hate waiting at start, but still if I have to wait, I wait in start zone. Current times: (level: frames - ingame timer (vs unassisted record)
01: 366 - 05"75 (vs 05"76)
02: 661 - 10"66 (vs 10"83)
03: 683 - 12"73 (vs 14"46)
04: 417 - 05"33 (vs 05"33)
05: 639 - 10"36 (vs 11"86)
06: 1362 - 22"33 (vs 25"18)
07: 887 - 14"33 (vs 16"76)
08: 655 - 10"56 (vs 14"03)
09: 1164 - 18"97 (vs 21"76)
10: 965 - 15"65 (vs 19"05)
I should agree with statement that some levels are just made for TASing ^^ EDIT: Now I am at level 12, and I have problem. there is one passage where I need just two more frames to pass, but I can't have them. taking damage there makes total time around 26"75(rough play after that passage) including 3 seconds penalty, while taking other way makes 27 seconds (that's 240 frames slower)... I think I still will not take damage here, but... It's subject for making another run. Two runs for this game are too much though.

I wonder if it wouldn't be possible to let a programme calculate when the best moment for a take-off is to get the fastest possible time without hitting the edges? But maybe that would take too much time, even more than just rerecording the levels with begin moving at different propeller positions.
In fact it is decided by one or two first THIN passages in most cases...

I don't like idea of having more subforums than hacks we have :D There is "Games" forum, not "Consoles" like I thought, so "Hacks" can fit there, but not Concept demos...

"Not a real game speedruns" section :D for both "not a real games")hacks) and "not a real speedruns"(concept demos) EDIT: I think forum is needed, but should it really be in console section?..

Stone ability is very effective when used with a TAS precision. And it allows you to travel vertical distances fast (in down direction). also it can be used to avoid hit from mines. Is tornado not as effective in this game as in others?.. You can get Smash attack pretty close to the beginning by eating two enemies with abilities ^^ It has rock in it, and King golem can be killed really fast: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/3248/Kirby_bosses.vbm (it's boss rush, but Golem is first in it) ROM used: "1716 - Kirby And The Amazing Mirror (U)(Rising Sun).gba"

I am not getting penalty. I hit walls only in the safe area. It looks and works differently. No flashing stars or time penalty ) EDIT: I've thought I was going to sleep, but then I thought that I've slept for the whole day already, so I spent some more time playing Kururin. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/3333/kuru1-3.vbm Grassland-1 : unchanged (0'05"78) Grassland-2 : redone. I found out that my joypad bind for rewinding adds empty frame, it did not affect first level, but this one I had to replay. New time is 0'10"66, that's 0'00'"7 faster then known possible from records page. Grassland-3 : 0'12"73! It's almost 2 seconds faster than record on records page, and half a second faster than current "known possible". I hit the wall three times during a short period of passing by healing square, it's a safe zone too, so no damage is taken. Without these three hits I would have to wait for ~second, and I didn't like it ^^ Please take a look and say your opinion ^^ P.S. I use his page: http://www.mzrg.com/games/records/KK/advnorm.shtml as a reference.

Looks like this game has been abandoned twice already... It's time for a third time :D I just started trying to TAS it and played first two levels skipping training. I was aiming for minimum time between the moment I gain controls over stick and the moment it reached destination without taking damage, BUT I hit the walls while inside safe (starting) area to adjust my position, and that really helps. Grassland-1 time: 0'05"78 on timer (record time: 0'05"76, one frame faster, but I believe that was gained by waiting in the start area, and that adds unneceseary play time). I hit the wall twice while in start area to aviod waiting at the end of the level. I could not get 0'05'76 or less no matter how hard I tried(~10 different attempts), my path seems to be optimal. Grassland-2 time: 0'10"78 on timer (record time: 0'10'83). Once again no waiting at the start, but position is adjusted by hitting wall in the safe area. I've got this result on second attempt and I find it pretty good. Maybe few frames can be cut off. EDIT: Yay, microstorage works again, and here is movie file: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/3332/kuru1-2.vbm

Based on moozooh's list, good moments I can think of • Gradius by adelikat (!!!) "Adelikat"/"Eat at joes" • Mega Man by Bisqwit and FinalFighter (!!!) latest glitch that saved 10 seconds • Excitebike by Superninja flying through the whole screnn few times in a row • SMB3 by JXQ (since there's more potentially interesting things than in the any%, IMO) Crazy 1up jumping/wallthroughs • Ninja Gaiden 1 (& 2?) by Scumtron NG2 moonwalking dane with clones • some snippets from the MM3456 run? Some moment that looks really similar on all four runs • MMX/X2 by DeHackEd Some moment that looks really similar on both runs • Sonic Advance 1/2/3 by Nitsuja (!!!) Camhack + original camera with approximate relative positions =) • Castlevania HoD by JXQ (!!!) Something from that short run with second character... • Castlevania CotM (short one?) by OgreSlayeR Throwing BIG bones out of nowhere • Mega Man Zero (don't know which of them, as they're a bit too similar to say for sure) New MMZ4 run :D Well, Phoenix fight in MMZ2 is nice, boss refights in current MMZ4 would do too. I have not seen or do not remember all the rest runs listed. so, start times or frame numbers of good parts are welcome )

:D I believe Somone already asked for a list of best moments in runs, but it was long ago. I would like to have list with movie name - ~starting frame - ~ending frame ^^ and I have never tried to encode snes/n64/gens movies =)

well, making promotional video is not all that hard. One needs to know what to show in it, that's the problem. I, for example, know nothing about Metroid series, and thus can not choose ood parts of metroid runs. If we decide and encode separately every worth showing in promo fragment of good run, the rest is technical work with a little bit of creativity ^^

I noticed speeduns often (not always, and that's good) show quick, but repeatative boss fights with enemy being luck manipulating into doing the same thing over and over, always getting hit with the strongest weapon. Therefore I made this topic for movies with boss fights that are recorded aiming for entertainment, and only then for speed. I think Megaman series boss refights can be interesting, and some games have unlockable boss rush mode (Kirby, Summon night...) Guidelines: - Movie should start from save state right before entering first boss fight room (if there are few fights in the movie) with al preparations already done. - Luck manipulation is welcome, but no repeating same thing over and over. - If the game allows it, you should use different attacks. From weak ones (to finish almost dead enemy?) to the strongest. - If there is some useless but beautiful glitch(or attack) - why not show it? - Don't forget to give at least rom name when you post~ Here's my Kirby ad the Amazing Mirror Boss Rush in 5 minutes ^^ Smash mode has quite a wide choice of effective attacks, so I used it almost up to the evry end... Well, Dark Mind wants me to fight using Master mode... I can't agree with that ^^ http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/3248/Kirby_bosses.vbm ROM used: "1716 - Kirby And The Amazing Mirror (U)(Rising Sun).gba" P.S. No, I don't think it duplicates "Just be funny" topic.

hours: 0..23 minutes: 0..59 seconds: 0..59 frames: 0..59 No reason for confusion at all :D And i believe Gens already used this time format..

Looks like I am not the only one who thinks that showing number of frames after last second is better than 1/100ths. It's more precise. 1/100ths are easier to understand though~ I wanted to create a poll, but it looks like I can not =(
