From Start to 0 HP about less than 8:40 (or less than 31200 frames). Roughly around 9:12 on TAS time Love your Mansion btw XD.

Thanks! P Veman3000 (one of the record holders) got in contact with me and will be helping with the TAS as well. Thats why I classified this finished run as a WIP. As much as I'd love to be done (in only one month and 8 days of working on this), it's not quite there yet haha.. So far Veman says going through the left side of the double door will save 1 second. When you enter into Parlor Room you end up more centered, maybe thatll save frames when blowing out the candles as well. Lydia - 2 frame improvement is possible if I start vacuuming as I get into the room to pull the curtain faster. Chauncey - may be possible to catch the 2nd ball as its coming towards the ground like the first ball. could save a second possibly. Glitchzone - first bat glitch seems pretty clean. second bat glitch I took a little long on set up. maybe another second. King Boo - If you watch it frame by frame, you can see there are a couple of frames where Boo's HP doesn't go down because Im either moving or he's too high up. That can be fixed with more work. King Boo 2nd Spike Ball - I do a 360 shot at bowser which clearly takes an extra 2-4 frames than the first one.

I'm kinda at my siesta right now in my publication. I really want to go back and redo it to make it that tiny bit better, I just do not have the time right now. But I feel if I don't do it now, I'll forget every strat and process I've learnt. March 30th is spring break, maybe I'll have time to power through it then haha.. Hopefully by then another few speedrunners could tell me more fixes!

Why does it matter? If the only difference is text speed you're meant to use the English version by tasvideos rules (though it's not strongly enforced). Jp has the Crown Theft glitch but it does not beat the game so it won't be used.

I should've visited this thread a while ago... I've been working on a TAS (testrun) of this as well (any% no OOB). Movie file here (goes up to Boos 4/5 in the Ball Room/Storage Room) using the Japanese version, this memory card, and this build by Masterjun. Hopefully it'll sync for you so you can compare directly; if it doesn't sync (and for convenience), I have it uploaded to YouTube: Area 1, start of Area 2 I don't really have any in-depth understanding with the technical mechanics of this game, but hopefully some of these notes will be helpful to you: - Nice job with reducing the ghost catching periods! (For reference, the fastest I've been able to catch a single ghost without the assistance of a wall is 21 frames (first frame being when the HP counter disappears and the last frame being when it pops into the vacuum).) - When grabbing a key, you'll want to grab it at the very edge, closer to the direction you'll be heading in afterward. You also have 2 frames of possible movement, 1 before the pose animation begins and 1 right after putting away the key. - For doubles, try to get the ghosts to head directly toward each other as much as possible before sucking them up. (It might also be even faster if, as soon as they're close enough, you face toward one and then the other quickly (like you've already been doing) instead of waiting to shine both on the same frame.) - In the Wardrobe Room, instead of going for a double, the first ghost that automatically spawns should be caught as early as possible, since it's what causes the next two ghosts to spawn. - When shooting a ball at Chauncey, first hold L before releasing R to shoot and then press R again to start vacuuming him. This lets you keep the vacuum out, meaning you don't have to go through the animation of pulling out the vacuum again. - During Chauncey's body slam phase, you can push him further through his path by getting underneath him at the right position whenever he's about to land. Where you're positioned affects how much he's pushed forward by. - After the battle, Luigi automatically takes out his flashlight. Maybe you could hold L/R beforehand to get the vacuum out (no animation stall) and let go once you're positioned to glitch into floor 1.5 to skip a second pulling-out-the-vacuum/flashlight animation and save a few frames. Some ideas: - Maybe try to manipulate the ghosts toward walls so you can reduce the catching period? (Example here) It doesn't seem easy to manipulate their movement, though... - It might be possible to get Chauncey to start his body slam phase at a certain position (so he's already further in the path when he starts) by releasing him (after the first 50 HP draining) at the right spot. I didn't test this idea much, but it may be worth looking into. I think that should be it... I don't know anything about the skew glitch and how it works, but Veman should be able to cover everything else (and anything I probably missed) for you; he's a really cool guy. =) Good luck on this!

edit: and YOSH1 your TAS is amazing :( I have lots of work to do it seems haha.. edit #2: with the Wardrobe room key grab, (just a random thought) I wonder if it's possible to grab the key and at the same time go through the door..

[edited] text speed is the same in japanese and USA on dolphin 4.0.2 at least for the parlor room cutscene.

slowly working.. I may have a video up when I finish the Parlor Room. I took what YOSH1 said and started working on the improved version. I'm still using USA because speed of text seems the same and for some reason, japanese version wont make a memcard savestate for me to start recording from power-on. I can use YOSH1's memcard but I would need a first playthrough to go with it for verification. SO im sticking to USA. Optimized parlor vacuuming from YOSH1's version. Im at school but I believe Im two frames ahead, first ghost capture takes 22 frames. trying to figure out how to hit that 21 frame perfection on capturing.

Working on the anteroom, excitingly got the first ghost double captured simultaneously on frame 21(frame perfect capture)!

Wait, was it ever discovered whether you can use crown theft as King Boo dies to possibly shorten the fight a tiny bit?

Not on US version. and as Patashu said "Jp has the Crown Theft glitch but it does not beat the game so it won't be used." Another note would be my movie file for jp normal mode never saved to make a verification file. so whenever I tried to start a recording, it would start the game as a newgame. so i'm sticking with USA. when I get to King Boo, I'll try my hardest to crown theft on US.

Wait, do you mean the japanese version won't save the input file or the save file? Because for the former, you should report the bug to the dolphin devs. For the latter, it could be a faulty iso or dolphin bug.

Link to video Start up times are different due to dolphin 4.0.2 vs 3.5. but when spliced by room im always a frame to 3 frames ahead, there are times that YOSH1 is still faster at but I worked all day yesterday getting wardrobe to where it is. Including the last pair of green/orange ghosts, which I somehow was able to captured the green ghost in 20 frames without a wall. (as well as the first of the double orange ghosts in 18-19 frames)

Five more main areas, each room will take me a few hours. Since they're just boss ghosts I don't have to deal with any double ghost troubles.
