Game objectives

  • Emulator used: 64 bit Dolphin 3.0-617 (TAS-Input) (will sync on 3.0-590 of master branch)
  • Reaches credits early
  • Does not shot web.
  • Uses a password

Emulator Details

  • Dual core disabled
  • Idle skipping disabled.
  • DSP LLE recompiler
This game crashes on start with JIT. This can be avoided by running in debug mode, and using interpreter for the first frame advance (frame count should still read 0), then switching back to JIT. It will not sync if you leave interpreter on. It also seems to crash at any time in 32 bit if you switch to JIT. Mac and linux versions have not been tested.

Comments

The password HCRAYERT will normally put you in chapter 16 with most upgrade, and 200,000 hero points. However, by entering it at a very specific time, in this case ~24 frames before the white dot marker disappears from the map, it instead triggers the credits. This glitch was found by jlun2, but it is not known how or why it works.

adelikat: The audience response seems to be that this is a neat glitch but not enough to base an entire TAS around. Rejecting due to poor audience feed back.

adelikat: Unrejecting this submission for consideration into the Vault tier

adelikat: Wile the glitch itself is a password glitch, it is still a TAS that uses passwords. While there are exceptions to this rule, the Vault is not an appropriate place for these exceptions. Setting back to rejected status.

I... have fairly conflicting feelings about this. -Uses a cheat code. -Gameplay that does exists is mundane and not entertaining. -The glitch is actually kind of cute. -Run is short enough that the lacking gameplay doesn't have time to become boring. I think I'll have to give this a 'meh'.
Even the best player is limited by the speed of his fingers, or his mind's ability to control them. But what happens when speed is not a factor, when theory becomes reality?

I can't help but agree. It's fun to see that a normal password can be used to glitch the game to credits, but it's like TASing Metroid on the NES using a password to start you at Tourian with an abundance of weapons in tow. On a side note, telling someone to get the hell out because they shared their opinion on a game is kind of like telling someone not to vote on a game because they never played the game before watching the TAS, but that's just my take on the matter.

Sorry, voting no. I don't think glitching up the password screen is entertaining. And I guess we all know what this run would look like to the average viewer. (Please don't argue semantics, I know it isn't actually glitching up the password screen)

Voted no for use of a password. It's funny, but doesn't fit the guidelines here.

I’m voting meh… it’s interesting to see a password being glitched, and it does require tool assistance to do so, but… uh

The password isn't supposed to warp you to the credits. It's only possible for it to warp you to the credits by entering it on a very specific frame. That's why it's a glitch, not a cheat.

It's still a password, and therefore, still a cheat.
http://www.youtube.com/Noxxa <dwangoAC> This is a TAS (...). Not suitable for all audiences. May cause undesirable side-effects. May contain emulator abuse. Emulator may be abusive. This product contains glitches known to the state of California to cause egg defects. <Masterjun> I'm just a guy arranging bits in a sequence which could potentially amuse other people looking at these bits <adelikat> In Oregon Trail, I sacrificed my own family to save time. In Star trek, I killed helpless comrades in escape pods to save time. Here, I kill my allies to save time. I think I need help.

it’s not a cheat if you use it in an unintended way… if you glitch a password to do absolutely nothing, would it still be cheating to use it? I don’t think so, I think it’d just be pointless

It's a glitch, that involves using a cheat. The password still does what it's supposed to do, it just also triggers the credits.

If you watch in the video, after i exit the name entry screen, it gives me a whole bunch of hero points. It still advances to chapter 16, gives me 200k hero points, and various upgrades, like it is supposed to.

I wasn't aware of this either, but what rog means is:

Entering the password does this and also glitches to the credits.

since it’s irrelevant whatever else the password does because the game ends with it (it would’ve mattered if you cheated it to go to Ch17 and still got the upgrades from the pwd), I don’t find that to matter at all but that’s my opinion

Oh, I didn't even see rog's post since we both posted within the same second, but he's right and he technically beat me to it.

Unrejected, huh? I'll see if it syncs in the lastest dolphin revision and try to improve it.

Yes, I think this deserves publication in the Vault. It's short and entertaining. I love the new site system!

Please replace the run with this: http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/2270152456726957 I have evidence that this is faster, despite the longer frame count due to triggering the "Begin Chapter" 10 VI's faster by not letting the camera move infront of spiderman. PM for the synced version of this run to compare it with the above wip. Edit: Since I can't get the debug mode trick to work, I did this without it. Edit 2: I messed up; the input would desync. rog, can you please edit the current input file so that the camera doesn't turn on the roof top before the 3rd chapter message?

I agree with the people above that this is using a password, which is not acceptable according to the site rules. Regardless of whether it moves you to level 16 or to the endgame, it's still a password.

Please accept it into the Vault! The neatest thing about this is that the chapter names make so much sense: "What might have been" -- The game could've been much longer if it was not for the password bug "Punctuality is the thief of time" -- And frame-precise punctuality apparently steals all of it.

I believe this should get published. The fact that they used codes doesn't seem too relevant to me, considering it is glitched using them. It's hard to explain the way I look at it, so I won't even try. Pretty much since it's not the intended way of using the code, it really isn't using the code.

That's what I think as well. It uses a password, but the Password does not skip to he end, the glitch does. Still no power, so I can't look at he improvement don't now, but I will when I can.

I voted yes before and it's still a yes.
