These 2P runs should be in the Super Mario 64 Hacks thread instead of here...we have that thread for a reason. Still impressive though.

Though this is a hack, it is still in the untouched main game. That other thread, IMO, is designed for more of what it sounds like, ie Star Road/SM74/etc.

Anything with hacks should be in the hacks thread. Afterall, the thread name is "Super Mario 64 Hacks", and these 2P runs are very different than what the original game offers, especially if you have to HACK to get the mechanic to appear in game. I guess there's nothing stopping you form posting those videos here, but I think it's best if we keep materials on the appropriate threads. I'm still pining for some new SM64 0 or 120 Star improvements, so seeing new posts on this thread gets my hopes up.

For what it is worth, I agree. Love your work Sonicpacker, but it is still a hack, and those only interested in the game as is should not have to wade through posts that are not Mario64. I understand your point, but calling this 'untouched' is kinda silly mate.

My 2 cents: Since the untouched original game is not very actively being TASed ast the moment and the 2-player hack is basically just two player mode for the original game, I think this is the right place to be giving updates about these. They certainly seem more appropriate here than with Star Road and other full on total conversions. Alternatively you could start a new thread, but I don't think that's worth doing.

My view is of Weatherton's. This thread is dead due to lack of content (mine and pannenkoek's?), and people that are interested in SM64 check this thread more than the hacks one. Those 2P runs apply much more to the SM64 fanbase that want to compare it to 1P, which is inevitable because ALMOST nothing else is changed. I have already gone over the dilemma in my head before your posting, and after weighing the reasons, this spot makes more sense. If the goal is for interested people to read the post, more will find it here.

^Agreed. I almost never visit the SM64 hacks page due to being almost completely unfamiliar with the hacks, and thus any particularly skillful movies/etc. I found there would probably go over my head. On the other hand I am very familiar with vanilla SM64 and the 2-player strats continuously amaze me. On another note, would a theoretical 120-star SM64 2-player run would be eligible for submission here?

BIG ABC update today, thanks to two new glitches discovered in the SM64 community: -the Stair Dance Clip, which lets you ascend by grabbing a star in mid air -If you dive recover & land while ascending, you preserve the ascending momentum so long as you do nothing but punch/stand still, and when you next enter a falling state you resume the ascending momentum. We're now down to 5. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AnJCRPC09lDtdHJucFljRWswLXN1cnRSZTRFT0pYRGc&usp=sharing#gid=0 The five A presses are as follows: BotDW (with red coins) BotFS (with red coins) Go to RR Go to BitS (from RR) BitS (no red coins) Also, the spreadsheet lists 72 stars acquired, but 2 of those are Quick Race Through Downtown and Go To Town for Red Coins (aka 'do an 11 hour long glitch to overflow the water' stars). So ABC any% just literally got 22 hours shorter! From this post on, no one has to fret about 22 hours of water overflow in ABC any% - we're back to all the long stars being duping, swooper manipulation, etc that we're here to see.

Is there any way to skip to the 2nd and last Bowser without BLJ like in the remake? Maybe a similar glitch?

You can do it with high speed wall kicks, but that also requires an insane amount of A presses.

Neither of these tricks are new. Just never applied to ABC. Star dance could be anyone's find, but the Y speed glitch was found by Eru in 2010. And it also works in a downward way, not just "ascending" as you wrote.

Oh, I didn't know they weren't new. Maybe 'unearthed' then? XD If glitches need to be 'rediscovered' to apply them to ABC, I'm guessing there's no good glitch resource/database/wiki for SM64 like OoT or MM...

Just in case you didn't see it, the number of 'A' presses keeps getting chopped. Link to video Link to video Keep up the great work :)

So does this mean we could actually get an entertaining any% ABC run without all the star duping stuff? Or is there still some duping needed?
I problably made mistakes, sorry for my bad English, I'm French :v

Cloning itself isn't that bad, not all those stars take 11 hours.
Current project: Gex 3 any% Paused: Gex 64 any% There are no N64 emulators. Just SM64 emulators with hacky support for all the other games.

BitS is still absurdly long with all the goomba cloning.

If enough stars become free we don't even have to do that one.

What do you mean? BitS takes long simply to complete it, nothing to do with stars.

My bad, I saw an acronym starting with B and thought of bob-omb battlefield stars.

He's unstoppable! More A presses removed. These all use the '207 dive recover' technique:
it is a technique to use a dive recover to ascend at most 207 units by taking advantage of poor object collision testing. Essentially, the sides of the cork boxes push Mario outwards, but these walls are misaligned at the corner. Therefore, Mario can do a dive recover into this misalignment, allowing him to get under the top without being pushed away by the sides. The top then clips Mario upwards onto it.

Also, it's worth its own post, so: any% ABC is now down to one A button press. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AnJCRPC09lDtdHJucFljRWswLXN1cnRSZTRFT0pYRGc&usp=sharing#gid=0 *KAPOW* Problem is, Go To Town For Red Coins is back in the route. (If you forgot: 11 hour water overflow glitch is needed) So we need one more star to become 0x or 0.5x A presses so we can remove it again. :D EDIT: Wait, shouldn't it be 3 A button presses? Bowser in the Dark World has a 2x A video ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cE2_0g7qbdQ&list=PLmvvhlevqC2d6vis077yFHuLJHYtTtqe_&index=126 ) but is listed in the spreadsheet as 0x A presses...
