Sorry if this is a dumb question: Why is it necessary to wall jump up the elevator shaft then fall back down to BLJ? Is it possible to begin BLJing without first getting to the top of the elevator?
it's not neccesary, it's just that you have to wait for the elevator to be on a certain height anyway so I just wallkick up the elevator since I can.

If you're going to switch the camera angle, it would surely be best to do it during a pause blj. Especially earlier on, given it would allow for a lot of stylistic choices throughout the run.
Or if they figure how to use the moat skip do it then. That'd be very cool for the 120 stars though. It could give you a nice view of some of the tricks.

Not TAS, but this strat is really cool, I've not seen it before. Link to video Probably not faster, unless it could be combined with other tricks.

Is this a real post? What are you talking about? This video is just the normal RTA strat of using the box to get to the mushroom, but he fails it and dies lol

This looks like an awesome strategy yes. In TAS you can be even more precise. Great find Goomba!

LOL. I wasn't sure wasn't the what the standard strat was. I don't watch that many speed runs, just odd bits such as 16 star runs. My bad. Still think it looks cool.

Aside from acknowleding this milestone, I thought the camera angles were quite bad. Sorry for being a downer :)

I thought they were nice. Original ones. Getting to see the same angles with Mario in the center all the time gets boring. I also think some camera angles were forced in order to not crash the game with the new glitch used.

I think they just did it quickly. I mean, this is very soon after MKdasher got that new strat working.

Without a replay file, the video is only hearsay. I could make an encode that shaves time off of that with minimal effort and it would be equally unverifiable. As of this post, no record exists below 05:02.25.

True, without the reply file this is not verified. But hearsay is hardly accurate either. Firstly it was uploaded by Snark, a known TASer, and you can view the videos of the big BiTFS skip that presumably got this made. Thirdly you have footage you can look at for evidence of splicing, hacking, speeding up or however you think he could cheat. It's not verified, but there's a number of reasons to think it's probably true.[/i][/list]

There's still no reason to not publish the file. This just automatically looks suspicious to people.
Current project: Gex 3 any% Paused: Gex 64 any% There are no N64 emulators. Just SM64 emulators with hacky support for all the other games.

A well edited video can fool anyone. However, you can't fool someone if there own game is being played right in front of them. Especially, when they can analyze your inputs on a frame by frame level and watch memory addresses.

Reminder that them not submitting to TASVideos is nothing new, and they aren't obligated to share anything. Be glad there is at least a YouTube video. Very well done TAS I must say. :) EDIT: Also I think this is console sub 5?

It's not, NTSC frame rate is 59.85fps, while Mupen is perfect 60. On top of that there is likely to be more lag on console. I'd estimate the final time would be 5:00.97

Finally, someone who knows the actual value. I couldn't find that information anywhere. For people complaining about the camera angles in Snark's TAS, with the BitFS PU strat (and most PU strats) it is required to turn on fixed cam in order to prevent the game from crashing. The crash is console only, so it's very important to console verify the .m64. I wish they had written a proper description because I think the information is important to know. Also, although that TAS was not console verified, Soulcal did just verify the 18'57 strat! So that bodes well for it as well as future improvements. Finally, no point in submitting that when we're gonna cut 30 seconds soon anyways ;)

I think some cooler stuff would be possible still. But at the same time I get how much effort has to go into getting camera angles good, just for a improvement to be found. Sounds like another PU strat.

Really? Isn't that 59.97fps? Or maybe that's NES EDIT: I'm stupid EDIT2: It should actually be 59.94. Not sure where you took that .85 from EDIT3: Without counting console lag: 4'58 flat is 298 seconds, 298 / 59.94 = ~4'58''3. If lag adds up 1''7 hanging myself :(
