The lantern is required to beat Big Octorok, there is no way around that. It will also be used in Dark Hyrule Castle for one of the small keys, this one can however be substituted for a different key. Boss Key is needed to open up the big door in a dungeon. Doing that is required to do the glitch I did with the Ocarina in order to bypass large part of the dungeon. I have made a detailed explanation in the video description about what's going on as well.
