Recorded with vba rerecording versions 10/15
Goals of this movie:
  • Aims for fastest time
  • takes no damage
  • manipulates luck
  • abuses programming errors
For my first TAS, I thought I'd give this game a shot, I had played it a few times prior and had enjoyed it a ton, and saw that there wasn't a TAS for it, so after a bit of checking and discussing, I decided to do one.
I decided to not take any damage in it since there are only about 3 main places where taking damage actually saves times:
  1. In the Study where the 4 Bone Pillars are stacked on each other
  2. On the way back through the Study after beating the Great Armor and getting the Malphas soul
  3. In the Underground Passageway, in the room with the Needles, getting hit speeds up your fall vs just floating down.
The programming error abused was an edge-of-ledge thing, where if you're jumping and dont quite have enough height (just shy of getting there normally) if you're on the edge of the ledge you can get bumped up. Not using this would have you trecking around the castle to get the Undine soul so you can walk on water to get to the Clock Tower. by using this I was able to skip getting the Flying Armor soul, not to mention a decently sized portion of the castle.
The Great Armor soul was used a couple of times to help me manipulate a beneficial soul drop (or enemy movement), such as Killer Mantle and Red Minotaur. The Black Panther soul was similarly used to help me manipulate Julius into an attack pattern that left him open to assualt.
I think that's it :)
Thanks go out to Zurreco, TNSe, Nrg, and anyone else who helped that I'm forgetting :)

I have a codec problem, I only have the sound when I ply the video. I installed SLD Codec Pack a few days ago, so I'd like if someone could help me by posting a link for the good codec, thanks ;).
Try downloading ffdshow (a powerful and versatile decoder/filter for all your needs) or install k-lite codec pack, where it lies by default.

Very cool run. Not as good as the other GBA Castlevania run in terms of star quality, but still very enjoyable.
I decided to start work on a second version, partially to fix the few very minor mistakes (not really obvious to most people watching it at normal speed), a few different strategies, and in general just aiming to make it look smoother and faster, while still going with 'takes no damage (quite potentially the single point that would be improvable I think, maybe one other, when its finished).

Admirable patience, that is. :)

I can't remember exact name of that soul (maybe Lubicant?), but there are soul that make your strength up extremely. It increase your strenght more and more when your HP is lowerand lower. I thing using Lubicant is faster than using 120% increase.

Lubicant it is, and no, it's not just faster than using it, it stacks with it aswell :) Said soul works by the less hp you have, the more damage it increases your power (though the strength increase isn't anything like triton or such, where any visible addition to strength such as +8 is visible in the damage you deal per hit, though it definitely does do a ton more with things such as red minotaur). Thus i will be using rotten food to acquire the desired hp for the soul, and the 5-10hp gained from using succubus for the good ending doesn't affect the strength of the soul.

Oh yeah I remember, I had already downloaded it for another TAS but I didn't remember that I needed this one, thanks ^_^.

Great run! I just have one technical question about the boss battle against Graham. At what point must you have the three souls equipped to not get the boring ending? I always though you had to have those three equipped for the entire fight, but you obviously only have them on for a couple of seconds, at most....

I got many codecs but I found that this timeattack needed the h264 codec, I found it and installed it but it still plays the video with the sound only. I think I'll try to watch this TAS with the emulator, what is the link for the last version please? ^^ Thanks =)

Maybe you could try installing FFDShow and/or using a different media player to watch the movie.

I just noticed that I hadn't seen this movie and of course I had to watch it. It's outstandingly good and I liked it so much that I'll now have to check that I haven't missed any other of Atma's works. I hope to see more of your fantastic runs in near future ;)
Which run should I encode next? :)
