I'm definitely in favor of obsoleting Famtasia videos. I'm not as keen to see a movie that combines perfection with flawed moves. Reducing three to two would still be an improvement.

It would allow for compare and contrast, instead of just basically seeing an exact copy.

Btw, by flawed moves, I meant, "Intentional" flawed moves. ;) I don't want someone to be upset. Xkeeper's idea of having a silly brother gave me an idea but :( FCEU doesn't support subtitles. I could have written a funny story.

This would be a perfect time to use the submission text, silly!

Maybe it could be dubbed in the AVI version?

It clearly won't be for ego, it will be out of demand. I think everyone wants to see Phil make a new run. I agree with everyone that there should be a new FCEU movie that replaces ALL 3 PREVIOUS runs. I need to watch all 3, then I will have an opinion on what this new one should contain.

The problem, that's what I almost did. Ex. So, having 2 foul at triple jump is better than 1 not good, 1 good and 1 that obtain bonus? Explanation is needed. I think using the B mode that only affects high jump event would make the movie better.

Yes but how? Imo, my european version movie should have been the only movie available. Why there's still 2 other movies and how to obsolete all 3 movies?

You'd have to break the record in an entertaining way. It's hard to say what you would have to do, since entertainment can't be quantified.

I think we should go for each event in the game and give your opinion. Ex. For first event and using 2 player, I could make them finish at same time to obtain the extra bonus which is cool because it's REALLY almost impossible to happen at full speed. If using 1 player, then it will probably be similar than in the current movies. Maybe faster if I find a good trick to control speed. Edit: After Javelin throw event, there's a cinematic. I remember Bisqwit complaining because it was included in Arc's movie but not in mine. What should I do?

well, I watched all 4 runs ((including this rejected one. Honestly I am only slightly less confused now than I was before :s I still believe that a better run can & should be made and it should obsolete all 3 published runs. here are some comments I have on a potential new run: 1) Aiming for high score should never be a #1 goal for a TAS. Therefore some other goal should be the highest priority, though there is good reason to not make it as fast as possible 2) The new one should be on the usa version 3) I like the euro run the best and arc's the least. 4) regardless of priority, the new run should and can be faster. For instance, 2-player would allow the first event to be faster since presumably the 2nd player would be equally fast or slightly slower than the 1st player. This would mean not having to wait for the cpu to finish 5) you always have 3 tries. one try should always should aim for the best possible time/length. one should get the best bonus in as little time as possible and one should be as fast as possible (which will usually mean it is a terrible attempt) 6) the archery is the most boring part of the movie regardless of goals. In the euro version there is missed shots but they look random or at least arbitrary. If there is to be missed shots they should look like they have a purpose. 7) in the javelin throw, a good long throw is soooo long. It is wasting a lot of time to do it any more than necessary. The ones where it falls quickly are good & get a bad distance are much more entertaining :) 8) after watching all these movies I still don't see the "bug" that arc supposedly exploits (that phil's movies supposedly don't) Conclusion: In general, the problem with all 3 movies is that there are many moments that look arbitrary. These moment should not happen in a new movie. Find a specific reason for each distance / time in each event, one that reinforces & CLARIFIES the heirarchy of goals. That is all I have to say at the moment, I am sure I will think of something I forgot later. see: [Edit] Had I been around when these things were getting submitted, I would have voted no on arc's & phils 1st movie. After the 2 were published, I would have voted yes to phil's 3rd movie ONLY if it obsoleted the previous 2. Had I been in charge, I probably would have rejected all 3 , though I might have been persuaded to accept the euro one (but only after a good explanation as to WHY it should be the euro version ?!)

The only problem with 2 players, there will be 6 attempts for most events which will make the movie longer. However, we could make 1 player to make highest final score while the other one will do so cherished bug(s) and other things like Arc and me did. So, I am still confused what to do to satisfy everybody.

When I submitted it two years ago, it was an improvement to a movie that had been made on the 20 FPS version of Famtasia. But, it is bad by today's standards and should be obsoleted.

Had you been around back then, you wouldn't have voted anything because back then there was no voting system and Bisqwit alone decided what to publish. I don't think there was even a submission system at that point, the files were sent to Bisqwit by e-mail :)

Ok, here's my WIP of T&F for 100 meter dash: http://hiddendragon.sytes.net/T&F.zip Oh and btw, I've managed to beat it by 0:01 which is really cool. I am using 2 player at B mode. I want your opinion and suggestions. Oh and it's not because it's 2 player or B mode that I am faster by 0:01 nor because I am using FCEU.

Ok, I've updated the link because I have finished the 100 meter dash at 6:92 which is 0:28 faster than any published movies. Any comments needed. Adelikat, I recommend you to watch it again. Imo, this is the way WE must do TAS.

Are you planning on working on Track&Field 2, Phil? it has better graphics and sound (and i'm much more familiar with it).

T&F 2?? There's one event that has no end, I already started it one on Famtasia and the pole vault event is endless or almost since you always able to beat it. The bar can be so high that it is floating in the air.

To the comment about high score never being a goal for a TAS, I disagree. Skill is usually displayed by beating a game quickly, but some games require other goals. High score seemed to be the primary goal in the recent Tetrisphere submission. In games with auto-scrolling, score is often the best indicator of skill. I don't think anyone cares how quickly most of the events in this game are performed, so what better to aim for than score?

So guys, what do you want to see for the long jump? Remember, there are 6 tries. Sure, there is one that obtain the best record, probably one to obtain the bonus and there's one that I will show some glitch not seen in any movies. So, it remains 3 other tries.
