Thanks for the comments! I prefer FCEU so I always TAS on FCEU and then convert the fcm movie to fm2. So does Mars and KFCMario.
That's what I do usually....but I dont usually do NES tases.
So yea, how's it going? Currently TASing: Nothing

Yes, thanks for asking. KFCMario has finished 8-3, but I don't think that the entertainment is good enough, so we would probably have to redo it. Also, KFCMario has found another 1-frame improvement in the water stage of 8-4. We're going to finished it soon.
Recent projects: SMB warpless TAS (2018), SMB warpless walkathon (2019), SMB something never done before (2019), Extra Mario Bros. (best ending) (2020).

It's pretty much about ended. Thanks to KFCMario, we saved 2 frames in 8-4. But I have to check out whether it's possible to save more, and some of the entertainment needs to be improved. Sorry that I've been terribly busy with my science project, but I'm sure we'll bring you want you'd love to see soon. So please be patient. :)

I'm currently at the very last stage in 8-4, so it won't take long. I would probably submit it this week. Please be a little more patient. :)

Nice, can't wait to see it; SMB2-j's always been one of my favorite games.

HappyLee: the current publication system seems to support your Warps Walkathon once you finish it.
Warning: When making decisions, I try to collect as much data as possible before actually deciding. I try to abstract away and see the principles behind real world events and people's opinions. I try to generalize them and turn into something clear and reusable. I hate depending on unpredictable and having to make lottery guesses. Any problem can be solved by systems thinking and acting.

Thanks for noticing me that. Do you mean The Vault? Isn't that for pure speedruns with "a minimum set of goals" only? Besides, it's only an 1 frame improvement, although entertainment would be improved as well a little bit.

Nah, not vault I think. See: #2136: Saturn's SNES Super Metroid "glitchless low%" in 42:37.13 #2449: NameSpoofer's SNES Super Metroid "glitchless low%, Speedbooster" in 44:18.62
A new section for arbitrary goal movies? Well I'm a little confused. But if you need me then I'll submit the improved warped walkathon after submitting the SMB2J Luigi run. Thanks for your advice. :)

Err... not a new section. We still have only 3 tiers. But as long as the movie is entertaining, it deserves a moon at least.

HappyLee: with the new tiers, the site admins removed the rules on tier limits; you can have as many goals for one game as you like as long as they're all fun to watch.

OK, thank you for telling me that. This is probably not a good place to talk about the new tier system, but does it supports more interesting hacks as their TASes are fun to watch? And what about former ideas like "minimum score 500" and "minimum press"? There must be some limits stronger than pure "fun", for some movies might interest some while bore the others.

Question: I just read the publication guidelines, and it says that when a game's English title is available, that title should be used over the Japanese title even if the version used is the Japanese version. That said, shouldn't all publications of this game be renamed to "Super Mario Bros: The Lost Levels" instead of "Super Mario Bros. 2" (JPN)?

no, because there is no us title for the famicom version. That title is specifically for the SNES All-Stars pack.

I believe Nintendo has stated several times that it is the official English title of the famicom version. It's the title used by both the Wii and 3DS Virtual Consoles when playing the original SMB2J, not just for Super Mario All-Stars.

well, i guess that does make it official, then. but it being called that in the SNES game didn't count.

You should post you movies in the right game thread, which is this, instead of opening a new thread.

はじめまして! As for your video, it is looking well optimized. Have you ever considered doing a "Walkathon" run in the future? edit: I mistakenly thought you were Japanese (I associated your username with nicovideo.jp). Sorry about that!

[1895] NES Super Mario Bros. "warpless, walkathon" by Mars608 in 25:30.05 Basically a walkathon is completing the game as fast as possible without using the run-button.
