If you can make that interpretation of the creation story, then I don't see why I'm not justified in saying that the bible uses the word 'god' to mean the logical structure of reality. Seriously, what did yahweh need to do to make it clear that that was literally the way the world began?

What of that evidence shows that the earth isn't 4.5 milliard years old and that life didn't evolve from a common ancestor?
Why be millions of years old when we could be... BILLIONS?!

Temperature, actually. edit: You can all shut up about how religion takes a stance for/with/near evolution. The Pope has decided to do all of your thinking for you.

The pope can only decide for one religion. There are other religons besides christianity, you know.

not true, up till bag of magic food's billiards comment, it was about religion and it was interesting...those two words ring a bell? maybe they remind you of that big title at the top of this page?

The topic of this thread is about the disappearance of religion. Whereas, it's gone off topic to just about everything religious ever. This thread should be more about social trends than religion. But because religion seems to be a hot button issue that everyone flames everybody over, I'd honestly just be happy to see this thread disappear.

A new pastor moved into town and went out one Saturday to visit his parishioners. All went well until he came to one house. It was obvious that someone was home, but no one came to the door even after he had knocked several times. Finally, he took out his card, wrote on the back "Revelation 3:20" and stuck it in the door. The next day, as he was counting the offering he found his card in the collection plate. Below his message was notation "Genesis 3:10". Revelation 3:20 reads: "Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If any man hear my voice, and opens the door, I will come in to him, and will dine with him, and he with me." Genesis 3:10 reads: "And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked."
"Genuine self-esteem, however, consists not of causeless feelings, but of certain knowledge about yourself. It rests on the conviction that you — by your choices, effort and actions — have made yourself into the kind of person able to deal with reality. It is the conviction — based on the evidence of your own volitional functioning — that you are fundamentally able to succeed in life and, therefore, are deserving of that success." - Onkar Ghate

I think it's been very interesting to watch all the different viewpoints colliding. I've learned a lot about other mindsets from it.

I, on the other hand, have seen thousands of threads exactly like this, some better discussed some worse. It's lost what little charm it ever had. And writing God as G-d is just about the most pretentious thing I've ever seen.

yes it's definately lost its charm, and as for the G-d versus God thing (yes i wrote God just now)...i don't do it for any pretentios reason...it just makes me feel better, but as you can see, i'm not opposed to writing it the full way.
