Manuals only showed up in THPS2, IIRC. Reverts in THPS3. All levels can be completed in one 5 minute play. The only level that will give you trouble doing so will be Downtown, since everything is very spread out. I would assume that the times to get 100% goals in each level would be something like: Warehouse <0:30 School <1:30 Mall <2:00 (only hard part is getting the secret tape and SKATE without backtracking too much) Downhill Jam <1:30 Downtown <3:00 San Fran <2:00 To beat each competition would seriously only take 15 seconds each run. One combo to get your special, once combo to bust out a high score. I would love to see how high of a score someone could get without grinding out the buzzer, but time is more important.

I thought THPS 2 came out for n64... if anything we should do that one. You can manual to a quaterpipe, pull out an insane trick, land, revert, manual again and still be in the same trick combo. And yes, they had reverts in TPHS 2...

I just checked gameFAQs and Zurecco is right, THPS 2 only has manual, no reverts.

lol zurreco, your times are way off :p more like: warehouse 0:25 school 1:05 mall 0:53 minneapolis 0:55 DHJ hard to remember, but I think around 1:20 to be safe San Fran 1:30 all competitions very low, of course, and done in 2 runs. these are all on console, btw, so a TAS should obviously be lower. And I know a ton of useful timesaving tricks for this game, so if anyone's actually interested in doing this run, I'd gladly help.

Man, you must not know what "way off" means, apparently. 25 seconds instead of 30 seconds? 1:20 instead of 1:30? WOAH!!! Those looks suspiciously close to me![/i]

I was referring more to the ones such as Minneapolis < 3:00. Don't really understand this since you only have 2 minutes to do it. And yeah, I'd say less than a minute vs. 3 minutes is a lot on a game that takes less than 10 minutes to do. And I'd say that any level that has more than a one minute difference IS way off, and it'd be a crappy as hell TAS.

To clarify: As others have stated, no manuals in THPS1, no reverts in either. I don't think THPS3 came out for N64, only on GCN. Also, most sick scores can be obtained just by completing multiple goals in a single combo. A little research would be necessary to figure out which moves would be best to use and which character would have the best specials. I know on the PS1 versions the diagonal tricks netted more points. I don't remember, but I think the score for each move degenerated if you kept doing the same moves like in the newer games. This works out well anyway to add more variation.

That would indicate a typo on my part, then. Especially since I said that every level could be done in one go earlier on.

I highly doubt those times, I simply just don't believe any of them. I think you don't know the actual times and you have exagerated by 20% or so. Minneapolis and San Fran are espically BS. You say you know a lot about this game, have you seen jedsvideos? You'd prolly like the combos there, there's also a link to the world record warehouse run, just short of 2 mill.

Yeah, that's Randy. And yes, I'd probably doubt them if I were you, but I'm 100% positive of these times, even though they are pretty unbelievable. Minneapolis uses a very bizarre route, but can be done in under a minute if everything goes perfectly. San Fran you're probably surprised b/c of the hidden tape variable. A pretty cool method is used to get this that cuts off a good 20 seconds by going up to get it from a different way, and the route ends at the S, though it's tricky to pull off consistently. I'm persuading him to send it in to the SDA. And edit: yeah, I've seen jed's videos a few years ago, pretty crazy, though I'm no good at high scores for the first 2 games. edit2: I just remembered I might have a crappy digital camera video of Randy's run somewhere. I'll have to find it.

Just watched the video, and lol I WAS off on some of these times, but the real ones were much LOWER than what I said. Minneapolis was 51, DHJ was 1:05. Yeah, this run wasn't sent in because he missed the major trick in San Fran TWICE costing him 18 seconds, getting him a 1:51 instead of a 1:30 target. Final time was 8:45 including menus and such. Maybe he'll go for lower, who knows.

You mean using the planter to jump from the streets to the pagoda? It's a pretty common trick. The problem with your time is that it seems to be way too fast for it's own good: How can you expect us to believe that you can ride the whole entire level, in a loop, while collecting everything, in that amount of time? Have you actually tried it? You just go in a counter-clockwise motion around the whole level. If you don't make major mistakes (especially on the tape) then you can easily get under 1:40.

I tried the planter method years ago; you can certainly get on the pagoda edges, but the tape is high in the center and unreachable. There's two other ways to get up on the building with the secret ramp but it still takes a decent 15 seconds to ride up to the ramp from there. I have a 3rd idea to get up on the secret ramp building which is quite crazy, it would be a little faster but if your coming from china town it wouldn't be worth it. I still don't believe the SF time, not if he messed up twice costing 18 seconds.

Start, get the first cop car. Ride up the ramp, get to the K, drop down hopefully landing on or near the second cop car. Continue to the right jumping over the far cop car, go up the incline and ramp2ramp for the A. Coming down hit the other cop car gaining speed. Go off the planter onto the rooftop (don't fastplant). Wallride up the beginning to gain special. Go off the secret tape ramp doing a spinning backflip for about 30k points. Go to the right and up the planter to the room with the T. Jump out the window and head for the E. After that, just head to the fifth cop car, then go up a small ramp to hit a grind on the stair ledge and jump into the S. Target time: ~1:30-1:35

Ya, I just did a 130 so I guess it's possible. Whatever Randy posts I'll make sure either Elindil, wannabe ska, or myself beats it. We can't let someone not from the THPS scene just take a record like that. He hasn't contributed one combo, he'll have to pay his dues first. That planter to get up to building trick is so easy, how could you mess it up twice.

Well he didn't line up the jump onto the fourth cop car which lost about 4-5 seconds having to go back and stuff, and he only missed the main planter jump once because he accidentally fastplanted. There's a lot of pressure when you have good level times before that! From watching, the other levels were: warehouse :25 school 1:02 mall :55 minneapolis :51 (pretty complex route) DHJ 1:04 San Fran 1:51 (eww :( ) Well I'd glad you actually believe the time now edit: well randy doesn't play for high scores in that game, hence the no contributions of combos. We were just playing some THPS1 over the summer and tried to do levels quickly. The recorded 8:45 run is 288 megs on a digital camera, made basically for me to watch.

I would very much like to see a TAS of THPS1, I played this very much back in the days. Unfortunately I myself have not too much experience with it, and I can't get the N64 TAS emu to work anyways.

Could anyone figure out a way to hack this game so you always have special? There's an always special code for the playstation but it's only for playstation version, that's why I liked this version the best. Doing combos is much better with always special since you can still do specials late into the combo. That's how we've always done them. So either once someone figures out how to hack it or writes a PS emu I'll start making just ridiculous combos right away.
