There was an earlier movie featuring wiggly first-person scenes. Blair witch project.

There is actually a DOA movie? I need to find that. But I think Alice can actually be good. Because the game is based on an impressive literary work. The only twist the game Alice put on it is making it more like a nightmare than a dream world. If all the movie does is make a dark interperation of Alice in Wonderland than I think that movie might be super creepy and pretty good. Max Payne might be good. Fighting games should not make movies. Mortal combat was really thier last chance to make a fighting game movie because the MK plot (in 1,2,3) was actually fairly understandable, and made sense.

It's terrible. 4 of the female characters (who look nothing like their counterparts) that basically fight ninjas with swords when they're not in their bikinis or whatever. Terribly terrible.

I don't think you would want to be reminded. That movie SUCKED!!! Everything about the movie sucked, and it had nothing in common with the game. I think that the best video game to movie adaptation was probably Tomb Raider (the first one, I didn't even know that there was a sequel). It wasn't the best movie ever, but at least it didn't suck. Mortal Kombat was mediocre. It followed the plot of the story (somewhat), but overall felt somewhat cheesy, with its poor special effects, stupid one-liners, and costume design that looks like it came from a high school play. Plus, everybody kept misusing the phrase "Flawless Victory". I'm going to see Splinter Cell when it comes out in theaters on the hope that Tom Clancy wouldn't let his properties get screwed up. But my expectations will still be pretty low.

And where are my Mega Man and Sonic the Hedgehog live-action movies, huh?
I'm afraid to even imagine what those would look like. Mega Man would just completely suck, but live-action Sonic the Hedgehog sounds more like a torture device than a movie. The Wikipedia list also included Metal Gear Solid. Any thoughts?

I always thought that the best thing about Moral Kombat was its cheesiness and the director's will to stuff as many distinguishing features of the game as possible without any regards to… well, anything. It was so bad that it was good. The second part, Annihilation, went even farther. It's so unbelievably bad it's just awesome! I can't help laughing every time I watch that shit. :D

It is a pretty mediocre movie, but there is also the notable absence of that "Wow, that sucked!" feeling at the end. So I think you might be right about that. By the way, how do you always post within minutes after I post something? ; )

Super Mario Bros: The Movie While I don't remember much about this movie, I know I got lost watching because it wasn't really Mario... nor did it really follow the storyline. And I don't remember a machine that makes people (or rather, koopas) smarter. Or for that matter, people used flamethrowers and those devo-guns or whatever they were called. At least there was Yoshi! He was cuuute. <3
Well see, Super Mario World was the newest thing at the time, and it was set in Dinosaur Land, so they had to do something crazy involving dinosaurs. That's also why the cartoon version had cavemen in it, because cavemen + dinosaurs = brilliant cartooning. EXCEPT IT WASN'T REALLY DINOSAUR LAND IT WAS DRAGON LAND, GOSHDANGIT

But you haven't even seen the trailers yet! Trailer 1 Trailer 2 Trailer 3 You can't go wrong with lines like "You know we're not so different, you and I. In fact, we're the same."

Game to Movie and Movie to Game adaptions usually end in failure. The best movie to game adaption is (and quite obviously) most likely Goldeneye, although TWINE follows the movie more closely while still being relativley good. In terms on Game to Movie I'd have to go with Resident Evil, even though it didn't have to much resemblece to the original game it just about stands as a movie within itself, but personally I think Game to Movie adaptations are worse than vice versa because movie makers don't try to make the game fit in with the movie and often make the wrong decision in trying generalise it so it appeals to the regular audience.

Yeah... I would think the main challenge with Movie to Game is deciding how closely to stick to the story to keep it recognizable while still letting players make their own decisions about where to go and what to do.

No, that movie was terrible because Uwe Boll had something to do with it. You could have given him the script to Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels, and he would have ruined it beyond belief. Then again, Uwe Boll thinks his ticket to fame is making video game based movies, all of which are terrible.

Perhaps his becoming famous for making terrible video game based movies has something to do with this belief...

I own and love Mortal Kombat. When I was little, I remember being so excited when it came out, and loved it so much when it was over! There are some awesome Movie -> Game Starwars games. The SNES triple starwars games were awesome.

Castlevania... MOVIE? You've given me a reason to hype any movie more than I did Snakes on a Plane.

The funny (or perhaps stupid) thing is that I already knew that posts get announced on the IRC channel. I'll take you up on your invitation. Right now, though, my home internet is off, so unless there's a fully web-based IRC client out there that I can use from the library... </off-topic> The funny thing about the Mortal Kombat phenomenon is that the first Mortal Kombat wasn't even a really good fighting game (in my opinion) except for the digitized graphics (Ooooh. Aaaah.) and the violence. (Oh no! Not blood!). Still, MKII was out when the first Mortal Kombat movie was released (Kitana was even in that one), so shouldn't they have known that Shang Tsung doesn't die after the first tournament? And I can't get over their misuse of "Flawless Victory". Really!
