Um... do you mean the Zulag 2 skip? If so, yeah, that's a good spot to use the DDG and I starting to get ideas, thanks again. About the any%, it would be great if the Zulags were loaded from the start of the game; it would be possible to go straight to Zulag 3! But they're only loaded after completing Stockyard Return :( I'm pretty sure the developers knew of the existence of the DDG and the Auto Turn Delay, but instead of eliminating the glitches, they decided to minimize its possible uses...

I also recommend using my strategy at the zulags with the DDG from this run: http://youtu.be/Rlo8Cotvz_E

I'm downloading your run to watch later at home, thank you. About the DDG in Paramonia; finishing the stage as a dead Abe is 40 frames slower. It would save some time later, but it is impossible to reach Paramonian Temple (high ledges). Fortunately, there's a well at the end of the stage which cancels the trick allowing me to proceed as normal. So, this stage is now 512 frames faster with the DDG.

So when I next improve my any% run I will be dong it on the PSX version. Would it be recommended to use the DDG at Paramonia?

Switching to the PSX version is a really good idea since they fixed a lot of glitches on the PC version. About the DDG on Paramonia, yes, it's faster for three reasons; you set it up with the bees, Elum will go further than normal and you'll don't need to blow the mine near the lever which calls the elevator. But with the DDG and the Stop&Turn tricks Paramonian Temple must have its strategies revised with care. The item mangement will also be kinda difficult. I'll post results as I put them on the new wip.

I managed to buy a pre release demo of Abes Oddysee and I played through it tonight. The demo version was the first game of Abes Oddysee I ever played. The auto turn and the stop and turn glitch can be performed but the jump backwards glitch couldn't be performed because the up arrow doesn't allow Abe to climb up in the demo. I also tried doing the DDG but it didn't work. I am looking forward to 'Abe's Oddysee: New 'n' Tasty!' which is due later this year and once I completed the game I wil do a segmented any% speedrun on that. Edit: the up arrow works differently on the demo. You have to press triangle and up together to hoist.

About the lever skip at RuptureFarms 2; after passing through the electric wall it’s not possible to activate the check points, so this skip is not an option, sadly, but I’ll try to stay “dead” as long as I can. Here’s the wip with the failed skip still in just for show: http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/5147299355025721

Nice WIP Dooty. It looks like there is room for an improvement on my any% non assisted run. Edit: don't forget in your submission text to say thanks for Sligfantry for finding the glitch as he was the first runner to show it off in a segmented any% run.

I will, for sure. His findings are the reason for this update and I'm using them everywhere. I'm almost done with the strategy for RuptureFarms 2, I just need to find out how many grenades will be needed to finish the game with the new tricks. edit: Oh, forgot to mention; you can only pick up 5 grenades on the first Boom Machine, otherwise the game will hang when you throw the second grenade, no matter where you throw it.

What do you do at the start of Monsaic lines and at the end of Stoxkyards return? I see Abe move further when he does the auto turn delay glitch.

Do you mean when he falls diagonally? If so, it's the Stop&Turn trick. out of order edit: Oh, and by the by, the trick was first used by antd when he was testing a possible skip of Paramonia/Scrabania and then Sligfantry found out what causes the diagonal fall when he saw it in my any% run. edit: I've found out what was causing the game freeze when picking up more grenades on the first Boom Machine; DO NOT roll over the grenades when you do the infinite pick up glitch! Anyways, the strategy for RuptureFarms 2 is ready; I'll need 10 grenades, collected on the first Boom Machine. But 10 grenades is not enough to finish the Zulags, I'll run out of them setting up the DDG, furtunately, when I need more I'll be in front of a Boom Machine which gives me 9 of them! Why not pick them all from the first Boom Machine then? Well, picking up more than 10 grenades there will cause a strange graphics glitch, followed by a heavy slow down and then an emulator crash. edit: RuptureFarms 2 almost done, 69 rescues, 15981 frames ahead. another edit: New way to use the Backward Jump; set it up as normal, but use it one or two steps away from the wall then walk to the next screen. Why is it useful; playing in real time sometimes you'll be trapped inside walls after the Backward jump, if it happens, go back to the previous screen then walk to the next one. obs: do not run or Abe will bump into the wall of the next screen, I don't know why but he can only "walk through" walls. About the progress, the Zulag 2 skip will be useful on the 100% too; instead of go to Zulag 3 after the skip go back to Zulag 2. This way you'll won't need to possess the Slig. sad edit: Do you remember the new use of the Backward Jump? It saved 330 frames on RuptureFarms, yeah, right at the start of the game! I'm testing it in other places and depending on how much time it saves I'll be restarting the run, oh well...

Hey, you gave me an idea; what about a Lua script? It would be nice if we could see Abe's hit boxes and the button presses while he's invisible! But I know almost nothing about Lua programming :( anyone interested in giving a little help here?

You can read this section from the website: http://tasvideos.org/LuaScripting.html Edit: only the supported emulators on TASVideos support Lua Scripting. I have created an issue on the PSXjin issues page to say that Abe games do not show properly. If they fix the graphics issue then you'll be able to TAS Abe's Oddysee on PSXjin.

Hey Dooty! If you listen closely when you do the DDG, the sligs say: "Ah ah" and "ay" Perhaps you could mention about that in your submission. You could write something like: During the DDG, all the Sligs will laugh followed by a random combination of "ah ah" and "Ay".

Hey dooty, do you need a professional level script for showing input? Or just some crappy thing? Because I can make a crappy thing for showing input at least, and perhaps putting a box around Abe when he is invisible :p Maybe ask in 'tool assisted laboratory' for the script. Usually someone helps me there with scripting work.

I think it doesn't need to be a "pro" script. A working script with input/hit box will suffice, thank you antd. The script will be used by Samlaptop on his real time runs, for tests I think, but it can benefit my TASes too. edit; I'll start working on a new any% run after submitting the 100%, so, yes, I'll be using the script for sure.

Haven't been around for a while, but I'm glad the new run is done. I'm presuming this still uses PCSX: don't know if any of the encoders are still interested in working on it, but I can pick this up otherwise.

Yea the new run does use PCSX. Dooty or antd is going to make a Lua Script as the new run involves making Abe invisible using the death delay glitch.

At what point does Abe turn invisible in the run? I still might be able to force visibility on. Hopefully he doesn't die after doing this :p edit: for some reason the graphics plugin causes the emulator to crash if i use the gui lua function in order to display a Hitbox on screen. has anyone got this to work with the old graphics plugin, or is it just me?!

The P.E.O.p.S Soft Driver 1.4 does not show anything drawn by Lua, but even worse;
Lua Functions wrote:
table joypad.get(int port) Returns a table of buttons which have been pressed. Does not read movie input.
So, the Lua script, although a good idea, is useless on PCSX-rr to show what buttons have been pressed.
