IRC is short for Internet Relay Chat. It's a protocol that allows people to chat with one another by means of a chatroom. As such, it's very easy to discuss speedrun projects with each other when you're able to directly converse (although most of the time, the ongoing conversation is similar to that of the Off topic forum).
