Starred movies are premium/popular/unique movies on this site. Examples of starred movies can include movies of incredibly high quality or entertainment; a mixture of both is preferred.
Roughly 3-5% of all movies on the site are expected to have stars.
The list of starred movies is currently maintained by Baxter.
Moons on the other hand are decided by publishers and are not the same as starred movies.
