It seems that a SNES rerecording emulator will be perfected and released soon enough. So why not start planning early? What SNES games would you like to see timeattacks be made of? Here's what I'm thinking of right now. Super Mario World -- A video already exists of this, but it's much slower than the world record. I know of a lot of optimizations to make in this game. Doing the things that are too risky to do in a real life play would make this video entertaining. A Link to the Past -- Obviously. Planning has already begun for this game. Like the other Zelda games, the fastest path will make all of the difference. Ms. Pacman -- I know this doesn't seem like a likely candidate for a good timeattack, but it is! Getting a perfect score is easy with an emulator, but a timeattack would be difficult. Unlike the original Pacman, the ghosts movements are random, and the levels change. Also, there are different modes of this game like mini, huge, arcade, and strange. Strange has levels that aren't symetrical. Obviously mini would be the fastest, but the others would be cool to see also. Balancing a high score with speed will be another challenge, like getting a coins in a Mario video. Lemmings -- This game was so much fun for me as a kid. Some of the later levels are super difficult. That's all I can think of for now. Ramzi

Might as well get the more obvious stuff out of the way. Castlevania 4 Contra 3 Megaman X series Megaman 7 (and Rockman + Forte) Here's some other ideas: TMNT4 Super Ghouls and Ghosts Donkey Kong Country series Earthworm Jim series F-Zero Super Turrican (hey, it's a fast game)

Just like all the other speed runs that were done on a real console, plenty of time can still be shaved off of Smokey's Super Metroid speed run.

I didn't mention Super Metroid because I don't know that game well enough. I only mentioned the games I know. I figured it would be obvious enough, and be brought up by someone else. TMNT4 would be great. It would need two players, though, for the fastest time. Another two player game would be Contra 3(?). Ramzi

contra 3 by 2 players would have impressively fast boss killing.

There is also a fifth Castlevania game, which is really cool looking and has great music. It resembles the lost PC Engine classic, 悪魔城ドラキュラX:血の輪廻, a.k.a. Dracula X.

Here's my list of games that I planned to do : Super Double Dragon Final Fight (ALL) Super Castlevania 4 and Dracula X Contra 3 (2 player with Genisto) Battletoads in Battlemaniacs (2 player with Genisto) Battletoads & DouBle Dragon (2 player with Genisto) Shin Nekketsu Kouha - Kunio-tachi no Banka (2 player with Genisto) I am thinking some Top Gear track Timeattack like player 1 Excitebike. I think that's enough for now

Well, if by "real console" you meant "emulator that isn't a real console at all", you'd be right. And by "right" i mean "still completely wrong based on the current English definition of the word 'available'".

I'm not sure I understand what you're trying to say. Are you saying that Smokey's speed run wasn't done on a real console? Here's a quote from the rules page at SDA, which I assume would apply to Smokey's speed run: Emulators: We will NOT accept demos recorded on emulators There are still no Super Metroid speed runs that were made with an SNES re-recording emulator. I know Smokey also did some Super Metroid speed runs on ZSNES, but ZSNES doesn't have re-recording yet.

Pierrot I think you misunderstood fried's post. Try reading it more carefully. in any case...I mostly played RPGs on SNES, so I can't really think of anything I'd like to see TAed. Except super metroid and the speed runs on that are already so impressive that I don't know what could really be added in a time attack. Super Mario world and probably the one with yoshi would also be good.

No, I think hes right. I beleive the movies were done on an emulator, without rerecording though.

If SDA accepted an emulator run, they would be contradicting their own rules.

Oh. Might have been thinking of a different super metroid run. Nevermind then.

Most of Smokey's original runs were indeed done on an emulator, but the ones he submitted to SDA were done on the actual cartridge and console.

Omg! So looking forward to final fight!! But as far as I remember you have to beat all on-screen enemies before you can move along right? (If timeattack is planned here) But anyway, so nice game. Please do it before the other games :-)

phil do u know contra 3 well? watch my zsnes movie on hard mode maybe u can get something out of it, just a warmup hehe. i love that game. and top gear too, but i don't know if i timeattack would be interesting cause the fastest time possible can be done without resavings.... http://members.lycos.co.uk/uobforum/phpBB2/index.php

Ok thx I will check it. For Top gear I am thinking of some hard tracks like Bordeaux , not all the game.I'm pretty sure with re-record I can beat the world record.

on top gear there are some variables though. because of the nitro. here are the questions: - is it best to use nitro while going up a hill (so u don't lose as much speed going up) or down a hill (so you get a lot of top speed that will last for a straight way, i.e.) - is it best to use all nitros at once (so u get a madly high top speed once) or use each one once u hit the regular max speed (so you can have a more average high speed). i think the speed goes down faster when it's too high, so if u use all nitros at once you won't get much "after nitro" high speed effect. but on the other hand, it will go so fast that on short tracks it may be the best way around.
