I think this is an excellent addition to the site. Everyone has an easy-to-view portfolio. I still think a user rank is unnecessary, but I know I am in the minority. Nonetheless, I have an idea for it.
To base the ranks on combinations of several qualities would quickly lead to a lot of classifications, which could be overwhelming. However, basing the rank on more than one thing is a good idea, as there are many ways to contribute to this site.
My idea is to model the ranks after that personality test I don't remember the name of, with Introvert/Extrovert, Thinking/Feeling, etc., with each category representing a different way of contribution.
As an example, ways of contributing to the site could include:
1) watching and rating movies
2) posting
3) editing site wiki pages (not homepages?)
4) submitting movies (or movies published?)
Each could be given two values that would represent smaller and larger contribution in that category. (Perhaps a third value would be appropriate for zero contribution from that category.)
Watch/Rate PostCount/Ratio Editing/Creating MoviePub/Sub

Below average Rating Talking Editing Player
Above average Reviewing Talkative Writing Robot
I'm still using player/robot because I can't think of something better at the moment - just trying to illustrate the concept.
So someone who has submitted a couple runs, rated a relatively small amount of movies, who posts a lot, and isn't an editor, would be a
Rating Talkative Reading Player. (Wow that sounds kind of silly, I think I needed to pick better words...)
Upsides:
- This is less like a "rank" to me, and more like a classification.
- Recognizes many people for their contributions, yet doesn't divide people into more classifications than necessary.
Downsides:
- Still, a lot of different classifications.
- The ranks will be long, unless abbreviated like the personality test.
- Isn't intuitive - especially if abbreviated. It could probably use its own explanation page.
The categories, classifications, order, and numbers of anything here are just examples of the overall idea. Just kicking the ball around...feel free to comment on any aspect of it.
