Digger - The Legend of the Lost City is a game where you star as Digger T. Rock, who must dig his way through 8 caverns to find the lost city, which if you look in the credits, still has a running water fountain! This game is fairly hard in real-time but with tools it becomes quite fun.

Game objectives

  • Emulator used: FCEUX 2.1.4a
  • Takes damage to save time
  • Uses warps
  • Colors more than 1 dinosaur

Comments

I started this run when I looked at nitrogenesis' run. I also found a new shortcut in cavern 6 that saves a few seconds. I also optimized a lot of movement and saved frames on every level.

Stage by stage comments

Cavern 1

Easy stage, saved a few frames from optimization, did the warp.
Frames saved in this level: 26 Frames saved overall: 26

Cavern 2

Another easy stage, just collect 2 items. More optimization here too.
Frames saved in this level: 13 Frames saved overall: 39

Cavern 3

A bit harder of a warp to do, but still quite easy. I optimized this a bit more, not too much though.
Frames saved in this level: 40 Frames saved overall: 79

Cavern 4

The first level without a warp. I bought dynamite for later on in cavern 8. Nothing else really, just more optimization.
Frames saved in this level: 64 Frames saved overall: 143

Cavern 5

I take the same route as nitrogenesis and fall really far. I had to wait for the elevator so I didn't save as much time as I could have if I didn't have to wait.
Frames saved in this level: 33 Frames saved overall: 176

Cavern 6

I take a new route at the end that saves a good chunk of time. Other than that time was saved from optimization.
Frames saved in this level: 200 Frames saved overall: 376

Cavern 7

Most of the optimization comes from the ladders areas. Nothing too special here.
Frames saved in this level: 160 Frames saved overall: 536

Cavern 8

I dealt with the dynamite a lot better than nitrogenesis did, which saved some time.
Frames saved in this level: 243 Frames saved overall: 779

Special Thanks

I'd like to thank nitrogenesis for his original run, I wouldn't have known what to do at all without his routes.

Thanks for watching my movie, and don't forget to question yourself as to how there is dinosaurs living in caves underground.
Cancelled because of a few seconds of improvements, will submit with a co-author soon.

Looks pretty optimized, but I thought the ending looked improvable, so I looked into it a little. I managed to save (I think) 12 frames by grabbing the ledge after the pink T-rex a bit sooner (the difference starts around frame 12771). This was done by making a shorter jump, to minimize the time falling down. It's not optimized, so you can probably improve it further. Here's the .fm2 if you want to take a look.

Thanks for finding improvements. I'll redo the ending and post the fm2 here. Also Randil check your private messages ;) http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/80309409/Digger%20-%20The%20Legend%20of%20the%20Lost%20City%20TAS.fm2 Here is the improvement of 32 frames. If an admin/judge could replace that would be awesome.

Poor NitroGenesis. Nice run though. It's a good thing Digger can survive 30+ foot drops (cavern 7), and you just know what he's saying is OHHH SHIIIIIIIIIII....* Yes.
Oh, play it cool. Play it cool. Here come the space cops.
