Erm, like I said, he used megaman because of the popularity of the technique. If you don't know what zipping is, and you can't tell from the image, I invite you to watch the Megaman 1 or 2 runs for ample examples of the technique. Everyone that has posted in this thread identified it fairly quickly, I would say. Is that good enough of a response to your question?

Everyone??? They are veteran, for newcomers, i's not evident. And most newcomers did watched any SMB3 video. Is this also a good answer for you?

The rockman/megaman Magnet beam trick is a very popular trick on this site/forum. It is abusable to beat rockman/megaman in unimaginable times. It skips even very important things in the game such as refights which you must do in order to move on. I can't think of any other game which has this sort of maneuver that can change the game so much.(Not counting Left+Right).

The image was made as a little homage, it's not like we are going to post it all over the internet to garner attention or anything. Furthermore, just because more people have seen your SMB3 movie doesn't logically mean that people should be making tribute images to that instead of anything else. No, that doesn't answer my question. What portion of SMB3 can be focused in to one animated image? I think The Kins did a good job of summarizing what tool-assistance can do with Megaman in a funny little image, but apparently you would like to see something different/better. What would your image be?

I know some games with such similar bugs but they aren't or partly included in any tas because they weren't so useful. Though, some of them needs left+right. I never worked on SMB3 or very little just to test some things. So I don't have any videos. More seriosuly, I am tired to see Megaman evrywhere on this site. Be imaginative guys. I am starting to think this site is a tribut to Capcom Megaman games.

Aside from on the front page and in Bisqwit's avatar, where do you see Megaman all the time? Keep in mind that we have Mario in the corner of the forums at all times.

Phil, your question was answered. Now, answer this?

Why, what is memorable about SMB3 that can be contained in a simple tribute image?

Actually, I wouldn't mind if someone made a .gif of SMB3 zipping.

SMB3 zipping has the problem that it's sloooooow. It doesn't make a good picture. It can't really be called "zipping". It's more like "conveyer belt through a wall". [Edit 2008-12-18: Updated link]

It may be slooooooow, but its still cool. Ir probably has the same difficulty to do in realtime as the megaman magnet beam glitch.

Some day, I am going to post all links where I see that robot. But I hate wasting my time to prove something so much unuseful. It's just that I noticed the site is going in some direction where, originally, the author, Bisqwit, didn't intend to. P.S. Also, Mario can also enter the wall :P So this can be considered, Mario zipping because I guess Rockman zipping is the entering wall glitch.

Oh? Do tell. Also, I await a response to my 'what would your homage to SMB3 be?' question.

I'm not Phil, but the only homage for SMB3 I could see would be the whole 99 live thing that Mormotto did. Obviously you can't make a simple image of that , so the MM zipping thing is way better.

Honestly, such a little animation for Mario games would be simple (falling asleep while sliding through the wall, looking bored while hopping from cannonball to cannonball, cowering in fear as JXQ slowly walks forward with a rubber glove and something hilariously inappropriate...), but honestly, let's not argue over these things! I just picked the first glitch that came to mind, heh. My next one... I dunno. My next one might even be Zelda 2.

>My next one might even be Zelda 2. Viciously downstabbing some poor enemy? Or maybe he shoots off to the side by trying to walk to the left with one leg and to the right with the other? I like the SMB3 idea with looking bored while getting 1ups from cannonballs too.

I was thinking a image of some generic forest, then link shoots by so fast reality warps into a bizarre glitchy mess. Oh, left+right trick, you are comedy.

How about one with Sonic burrowing through a level as a tribute to Nitsuja's raping of Ice Cap zone in Sonic 3 & Knuckles?
Signature under contruction, still.

This is the wrong forum if you're looking for not arguing, I'm afraid :( Really cute animation, though. I liked it.

Rather than make another thread, I'll just post this here. Not bad for something I made somewhere between midnight-1am! And yeah, the shadow flipping sucks, I might fix it tomorrow. Should have thought that out more... Let me know if Zelda is a horrible example of speedruns and I am a bad person for choosing it and why didn't you choose Dragon Quest 3 damn you Kins daaaaaaaaamn you!!! ;)

Haha, I like that animation, but wish the blur was more visible. I wasn't quite sure what that was supposed to be until you said 'zelda' and I realized its link sliding.

You people need to chill the **** out. This dude just made a funny gif in his free time and decided to share it. Don't bitch about it like this. Phil: The megaman zipping was probably chosen because it was FUNNY. "OMG my head is stuck in this wall! Now I am flying through the air at lightning speed! *arms dangling helplessly*" IMO, no one here who has complained here has made any suggestion that might actually be funny. LIGHTEN UP. EDIT: BTW, the zelda one is equally awsome, I love it :D
It's hard to look this good. My TAS projects

I didn't picture the Zelda one being too doable comedically (because the animation is longer), but man was I wrong! LOL I hope you keep these up! These animations have a really cool "charm" to them. The games that work best are where the TAS is quite different from its unassisted counterpart. The two examples so far have worked very well. I'll try to think of more ideas.
