Updated to v19.2: - fixed a large memory leak with the shared memory code introduced in v12 (this addresses pirate_sephiroth's concern) - fixed a problem with the shared memory code that prevented multiple instances of VBA from working correctly (they would corrupt each other's memory before because the memory was shared; now only the first instance to open shares its memory by name) - fixed a very old bug with enabling/disabling sound channels of GB and GBC games not taking effect immediately (this addresses CtrlAltDestroy's concern)

Much better now. There's one little thing too... it's not a bug, but... Why there's no "GB rom" in the directories list? Consequently, there's no "Open GB" in the File menu. Usually, we don't mix GB and GBA roms in the same folder.

I do! Most of the Game Boy Advance ROMs start with numbers, so they get separated anyway...

One thing that bothers me is that if you start up a movie file with read-only off and load a non-movie savestate, the emulator will not load the savestate but will record from where the attempted load occurred. If there are no quicksaves to save you, the run is wrecked from the very beginning. There is no reason that this should happen. Another reason to save backups.

I'd really like to be able to set Common Hotkeys to Gamepad as well (not only to keyboard). Could it be possible to get this upgrade to the next version? If I'm not mistaken, some other people would also like this, and I don't believe there would be any harm in it.
Which run should I encode next? :)

You can use JoyToKey to do that. Satisfaction asured or your money back!

Wow! Thanks for that pirate_sephiroth. It even found my Xbox 360's Z axis buttons, which most games doesn't. Though it would be nice to be able to set the buttons in the emulator as well, but this will do just fine. Now, I do have one other improving idea for the next version (I'm quite demanding, aren't I ;D). It would be nice to be able to switch the sound on/off while recording an .avi. Exactly like Snes9x does, except there isn't a switch for it. Snes9x just cut the audio off when recording. I really like this way much better than with audio because there's a really good chance the FPS is below the normal when recording, and thus the sound isn't that plesant. But since some people might like the audio even while recording I suggest the on/off switch, a simple check box somewhere would do just fine. I hope you understod at least something of my babbling ;)

Ok, I only skimmed through the last three pages, but couldn't find any post mentioning this bug: When you toggle "Mute" and "Off" in the Sound menu the game will run at 500-800%. Actually this is not really important...but hey, I found a bug :)

Well, I think that's the reason why I toggled "Off"additionally. Because "Mute" didn't work and after that the game ran in highspeed. Switching the speed manually to 101% or 99% (not 100%) solves the problem.

are you ever gonna implement combo, that would sure help in stuff like metroid zero mission's ibj and wall jumping or sonic advance's ultra spin-dash

Maybe sometime after I decide how combos should work for N64 emulators.

Lag Reduction turns itself off every time i try to record a movie (v19.2) also why isn't Lag Reduction hard coded anyway EDIT:It happens every time I stop recording the movie, Here's my ini if it helps

I just released v19.3 (see first post), which has the following changes:
 • fixed a rather critical bug with lag reduction not being set in the movie file's flags when recording certain games (the bug P.JBoy just reported)
 • added a "pause during cheat search" option to turn off (non-modal cheat search)
 • removed "prefetch" messages
 • playback dialog auto-refreshes when you change the filename
If anybody (at least P.JBoy, I assume) has recorded a movie and then discovered that it desyncs on playback due to increased lag, and doesn't want to start recording from the beginning again, you can fix the movie file by changing the byte at 0x17 to have 3 instead of 2 as the first digit.

Nach is the author of the Nintendulator NES emulator. its main objective is to emulate as close to reality as possible (even the artifacts that help anti-cheaters distinguish emulated runs from legit runs), not recording movies. the main rerecording VBA emulator is nitsuja (our hero !!). where did you here that Nach works on VBA ?

Well he had to start working on it because the code to record movies doesn't work! And I thought Quietust made Nintendulator.

I don't know where all this nonsense came from, but my latest copy of VBA is here: http://nsrt.edgeemu.com/vba-nach.tar.bz2

It indeed is Quietust who wrote Nintendulator.

I havn't actually bothered to read around (only just a brief skim through this topic). I've noticed that I can't take screenshots while in pause mode. I have managed to take a screenshot by pressing screenshot + frame advance at the same time. Is this a problem I'm experiencing independently? If not, will we be able to take screenshots with VBA while in pause mode in the future?
