I decided to console verify the run. The main reason was because the audio does not freeze and play forever at the end of the run and instead just makes a nice elevator ding sound.

Don't worry, it was obvious that you edited it. I suspect that it might not even be possible to overflow the rerecord count lol.

This crash seems like potentially a big deal? I wasn't aware that any bugs of this nature existed in SMB1. Could it be possible to get control over PC, or write to a controlled address somewhere? Has anyone run this in a debugger to find out what's happening?
I did a quick search to see if something like this was already known. I found Super Mario Bros. 2 (FDS) - World 8 Crash Gltich from 2018, but it looks a little different: a wind-assisted clip into entering a pipe backwards (looking a bit like the SMB3 7-1 wrong warp).
EDIT: I see there is some discussion beginning at forum/p/504862#504862. HappyLee has a demonstration video with a similar activation sequence ("it involves double stomping the Koopas and breaking a brick that has a coin on it") at userfiles/info/63142191243839512 and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rA-JeFTtglo.

I was once able to talk to HappyLee, he thinks it might not be possible to do anything interesting, but I decided to investigate further. There are still so many things I don't know.

After getting the mushroom, what do you do? I'd like to try improving it, but I am blind, so I don't know what you do.

I have no idea how you can TAS without being able to see, but you go forwards, over a few pillars until you reach the part where there are two koopas going left. You wait a bit, get a slight bounce off the first koopa, bounce off the second koopa while kicking the first koopa to the side, and immediately destroy a brick block with a coin on top with Mario's head. You'll have to try this a lot of times to actually get it to crash, since the exact reason it does so doesn't seem to be documented.
