I know it's a joke, but could people please finally stop doing that? It's getting old and it's annoying. Thank you very much.
I agree.

However, it looks like Mario is bending over and has a turtle shell on his back. The correct interpretation of the image isn't immediately obvious.
On the contrary, I understood it immediately when I saw it. I think it's obvious enough. I didn't even see what you're suggesting until after you mentioned it. In fact, I think it takes a stretch of the imagination to see him bent over like that. The head looks like it's detached and he'd look really weird bent at an exact 90 degree angle like that. To me it's obviously just his arm, not half of his body.
I agree with everything you just said. The correct meaning is plain, and I don't see how you could interpret it otherwise.

Well, now it's some years later, and I still find it funny. It seems your opinion, which you mistakenly believe you're entitled to, is in fact - Wrong!
As memory goes, even after reading those posts again, I have no idea what was going on, and I now don't even see the alleged funny.

WebNations: YouTube has an API. Maybe we can make a script to add multiple videos to it?

For Linux this has proven to be more complicated for some reason and I really can't figure out what I miss.
I can't figure out what you're missing either. Doesn't your distro have an SVN package to install which handles all issues?
Walker Boh wrote:
Anyway, I've googled a bit and found that you should add the svn variables to the path. Fine. So I did something like: export PATH=$PATH:/path-to-svn
Um, that's not SVN variables, that's a path to SVN. Why isn't SVN in your default binary directory?
Walker Boh wrote:
Then I read up some more and found that you might need to add it to the bashrc file. So I used vi in order to add the same path to that file.
That only applies if you actually use BASH.

So I came up with the game type which I think really is by far the most unsuitable for TASing: A computer chess game.
Not quite.

For the TAS to make any sense, the program would have to be set to its absolute maximum difficulty, and the goal of the TAS would be, naturally, to defeat it in as few moves as possible.
Not necessarily. There's a game on Gameboy called the 4-in-1 funpack. It includes Chess, Checkers, Backgammon, and Reversi (Othello). The Chess engine is Sargon, which acts really stupid in that pack for some reason. Beating it quickly would probably be pretty boring. What can be interesting however is exploiting the engine. My father called me over one day to watch him play. He starts making one bogus completely irrational move after another. And the computer responds just in kind. My father moves his Queen right next to the computer's with no strings attached, and the computer, just goes ahead and moves a pawn. My father showed me how to knock off every single piece the computer had, without losing a single one of his own, and then checkmating it. I should probably ask him for the move list, as it'd be pretty funny to watch.

If I have understood correctly, the tasvideos.org managers have got a surplus of donations, in other words, more money than what they really need for the (thankfully quite little) expenses needed to keep the server up
Incorrect. We got enough money to keep the server going for this year. There's next year, there's the year after, and so on. Also, as we get more popular, we'll need to improve our server. Some also requested that we buy special software for the server if we have the funds. The money towards prizes this year ($100) was donated solely for the purpose of the prizes. Anything given back to the site by winners will be welcome. However, for future fund raising, we would like to set aside 15% of the income towards award prizes if possible.

Go give Lemmings a star. It's a category which is a bit under represented, it's an insanely famous and popular game, which has been ported to almost every platform imaginable, and the run is shocking to anyone who knows the game.

I've been meaning to watch this run for a while, but the length scared me off a bit. I finally got around to it. Let me say I was completely blown away. I did not have to fast forward or skip anything, this movie was amazing. One of the best TASs I've ever seen. Many of the solutions were exceptionally creative and mind boggling. Constant moments in this of "you're not supposed to be able to do that". You also beat some of my records by a large margin, which I thought were pretty good. "And then there were four" had me exceptionally impressed. There were also excellent moments where I saw the start of something ridiculous wondering "how is he going to get out of this one?", with an excellent exciting finale each time. And you did the Sunsoft levels!!! I knew about them, but never got around to playing them. It was nice to see them, and you made them look so easy too! This run just has me craving for more. Fun is probably too simple to be enjoyable as a TAS, but perhaps you'd like to do Tricky and Taxing with some creative solutions? I'd also love to see a TAS of "Oh No More Lemmings!", although I don't think we have TAS support for any platform it's on. It's also a shame that this run was overlooked for getting a star or an award nomination.

Don't forget HappyLee did Extra Mario Bros. too! BTW, there's some great hacks here (including EMB): http://www.derok.net/emulation0/supermariobros.html

Whoa! There's even a video that was directly uploaded in this topic so that we are able to watch it right when this forum topic opens! I've never seen that before!! It is so COOL! :D
I was upset that I was using this excellent run as a guinea pig to foster some needed rule changing, so I figured in the mean time, till we got the rules modified, I'd at least make the movie easily accessible for our members. I added the feature, and this movie here was the first to feature it (although I did it alongside the Solomon's Key 2 / Fire 'n Ice submission too). arukAdo has since been making use of it as well. Glad you like it.

You can only get it the "first time" you play the level. Let's say you get the 1up in the first level, if you die it won't appear the next time. You'll have to be game over first in order to get it again.
More generally, the bonus 1up will always appear the first time you play 1-1; for the other -1 levels it will only appear if you warped there or if you had collected all of the coins in the previous -3 level: http://www.themushroomkingdom.net/smb_breakdown.shtml
That claim looks very suspicious. I think we'll need to do some Source Diving to figure out this one. Edit: I just read the disassembly, and yes, it's true! Here's the number of coins you must collect (must be at least this number) 1-3: 21 2-3: 35 3-3: 22 4-3: 27 5-3: 23 6-3: 24 7-3: 35 8-3: 99 The 1-up flag will then be set, so the invisible 1up object will appear. The flag is then unset the first time a 1up object appears. Also, the coin counter resets every time you change your area. So this is why the X-3 levels never have any pipes to take you elsewhere.
Wow thanks, for the first time in years, I just learned something new about the game :) Surprising I never saw Nintendo mention this.

I made some tweaks to the site over the past few days. They range from improving results in search engines, to improved loading speed, to how embedded streaming works. Some changes you may notice, others are more subtle. You may want to (force) clear your browser's cache in order to allow some of the changes to take effect. For those of you enjoying Archive.org embedded streaming, you may enjoy how the new loading image works. Also, we now support commentaries in movies being played from Archive.org, see this movie as an example. If this last feature interests you, perhaps consider making some commentary for the next run you submit!
