• Emulator - Gens TEST 10
  • Takes damage to save time
  • Abuses programming errors in the game
  • Aims for fastest time
For a long time, nobody had taken it upon themselves to timeattack a Sonic game. Then came Sprint, doing Sonic 3 & Knuckles. Then came Xebra, who started doing Sonic 1 but got sick of it and gave up. Sonic 2 got a similar treatment from Hero Chaos Chao. After several exceptionally poor quality Sonic 2 speed run submissions (ranging between 30 and 40 minutes long), I decided that my first timeattack would be of this game.
So here it is, after months of hard work and a short hiatus.
Level times: (TSC records in parentheses)
  • Emerald Hill 1 - 0:18 (0:20)
  • Emerald Hill 2 - 0:36 (0:38)
  • Chemical Plant 1 - 0:17 (0:22)
  • Chemical Plant 2 - 0:51 (0:53)
  • Aquatic Ruin 1 - 0:19 (0:24)
  • Aquatic Ruin 2 - 0:38 (0:43)
  • Casino Night 1 - 0:25 (0:34)
  • Casino Night 2 - 0:55 (1:05)
  • Hill Top 1 - 0:39 (0:48)
  • Hill Top 2 - 0:48 (1:03)
  • Mystic Cave 1 - 0:28 (0:40)
  • Mystic Cave 2 - 0:37 (0:49)
  • Oil Ocean 1 - 0:26 (0:38)
  • Oil Ocean 2 - 0:48 (0:59)
  • Metropolis 1 - 0:54 (1:12)
  • Metropolis 2 - 0:50 (1:30)
  • Metropolis 3 - 1:30 (2:33)
  • Sky Chase - fixed length auto-scroller
  • Wing Fortress - 1:42 (1:56)
  • Death Egg - 0:42 (0:49)
Quirks/Glitches:
  • In Oil Ocean 2, falling into the sphere cannon after being injured by the spikes causes Sonic to gain some unusual abilities, allowing him to run and jump as if he were Super Sonic. This glitch lasts until he performs a spindash.
  • In Death Egg Zone, the explosions are replaced with animal graphics, apparently because I defeated the bosses too quickly.
Enjoy!

Oh yeah, this finally done. Excellent work, the whole run is just scary fast. It's unfortunate that the flying section looks so lame compared to everything else, though no kills or rings helps.

We all already know that this run is the supreme awesomeness, so I'll just put my "yes with a star" on the growing yes stack. Chemical plant really shines as one of the best levels in my opinion. It has been my favourite since the beginning of this run. That and Oil Ocean which is sick, sick, sick. The crowd begs for more movies from Quietust.

Agree. Just the speed and momentum in Chemical Plant is a jaw dropper. Oil Ocean was pretty sweet too, running right over the oil. Sonic 2 and 3 are my favorite runs so far. Sonic 2 a little more since I played it a lot more and I find it more nostalgic.

Already "voted" in the other topic. Just making it definite here. It's really good and a well earned STAR for this baby!

Dear lord, that biplane level is a real snoozer. You spend the whole game running as fast as you can and then you engage in a low-speed pursuit? Nice job avoiding everything.

I figured that by the time he got to Sky Chase, Sonic must've been pretty tired, so I decided to give him a chance to catch his breath. :)

I'll say. And he seemed to have lost a bit of his breath during the Metropolis Zone parts, where he had to wait for Tails on the screw thingy just to raise it up faster. He could've at least gone up a notch while Tails is still flying upwards, as to not wasting any frames, but I think you still had those sections planned. Other than that, an instant yes, and a Star request on it, if you guys don't mind...?

Voting very yes. I watched the run last night when you posted it in the Sonic 2 thread. Very nice work!

Not only is this one a definite yes, I'll honestly be shocked if this isn't published the second Bisqwit gets his hands on this movie. It's that good.

He'll probably have some random desync problem that nobody else has, and the Sonic movies will get published by someone else a month later.

Dang. Now that was an awesome movie. That gets a Yes vote and a star. I think the Sonic games may be the perfect series for speed runs. Sonic games look fast even when they're played normally. When someone actually does a speed run, it's just mind bogglingly fast. The Mario runs are great and all, but you can actually see Mario most of the time. I like a speed run where all you can see of the main character is a blue blur 90% of time. Amazing run.

Well, the game's mostly running, with a little jumping. It might be more interesting if Sonic could shoot missiles and turn into a glowing zebra and teleport into Never-Never-Land and um...

Yes with a star, Chemical Plant was just sick. I also found it funny that Tails couldn't even catch up on most of the levels.

Great vid. (And to be accurate, I didn't quit my run because I was obsessed with perfection. I quit it just because I hate making time attack movies, and it was only fun when Lezard was there to compete with.)

I think it's not a good idea to publish two Sonic movies at the same day :)

Q, if you want to hit and collect nothing during Sky Chase, cool, but I think it is a moral imperative that you find something weird or eccentric to do, as well. Ok, when you spam the Jesus out of spindash/cancel/spindash/cancel/spindash/cancel/spindash/cancel (I think you know what I am talking about) you should spell out QUIETUST in morse code: --.- ..- .. . - ..- ... - http://www.geocities.com/xebranick/qmorse.wav
