It's not really accurate in fact, except for the rings part.
If you can, try starting the first act, then lose a life, collect 5 rings, and you'll have a Sonic sign instead of a ring one.
Another test, same act: collect 9 rings and the life near the end (in the water). You'll get a ring sign, and not the flicky one.

If people can start talking again in this section of the forum, they might give you tips.
If I could have a tool-assisted real life, I'd...
Being a novice, I'd probably load the wrong state, have the IRS AI bankrupt me, and eventually make me want to kill myself and redo 11 years of hard work.
If you want to do a 100% or Tails run. I am sure I can help you out. This game has a lot of lag management, so be warned. The Sonic TAS is almost finished, and optimized to the fullest.

I'd recommend being a bit more humble. Everyone should be treated with a little bit of respect.
Just a rectification about the optimization. Because we can never really say about a run that it's optimized to the fullest ^^
And in this case, because of aaaallllll that lag, I'd say it's optimized to the best as we could do without becoming living bots. Give me just 5 hours for each series of jumps and actions and I'm sure I could gain some frames by randomly hitting buttons in a different and unintuitive order :P
PJBostic: if it's your first time TASing or if you want to learn with this game... I'd say it's not a good choice (the return of "bad game choice", yay), except if you like headaches :D
The thing is that lag gets in the way of everything in that game: you jump, it lags, you move, it lags, even if you don't move it can lag... It can be a nightmare at times.
But if you are already familiar with TASing (tools, techniques and all that stuff), or still want to try this game for a first TAS, I'll say like Cooljay: feel free to ask for tips ;)

Sorry.

So, does this mean it is time for a new version? :-p

I was told about this little route change (or mistake in the routing for the TAS, in other words ^^) a while ago. I think my answer at that time was something like: "arrg, arrrg, no! I don't want to go back to TASing this game! Please spare my soul...". You get the idea :P
I don't know if Cooljay would like to work on the game again, too.
But if someone else wants to do it, I'll at least give any help I can (ram values, known glitches, techniques...).
For future reference, the time is down another 2 seconds to 0.37 on the video marzojr posted a couple of posts up. (TAS time is currently 0.40 for those that do not know.)
