How can you tell?
Well, honestly, she gets really excited anytime I put on a Super Metroid, Mega Man or Mario run. R4MI is extremely fast-paced and colorful. We just finished watching this run played back on emulator, and she was focused the entire time, even though she had veggie puffs to chomp on. She then passed out for a nap within a minute of input end. :] As for the run... there's so much awesomeness contained, I am speechless. Have this reaction image for now.

I almost always agree that a TAS should be the hardest difficulty possible, but in the case of Doom, the games often have an exceedingly unfair highest difficulty. According to the Skill Level page from Doom Wikia: http://doom.wikia.com/wiki/Skill_level#Doom_64_skill_levels Doom 64 has 4 difficulty levels, with Watch me die! being hardest. Apparently, difficulty only changes the amount of monsters. Of course, here at TASvideos, we need to know more. In some Doom games, the player takes extremely higher damage, and enemies are much tougher and faster. If Doom 64 only adjusts the spawns, I'd say the TAS should be on Watch me die!... unless it's an unreasonably high amount of monsters (but Hyper Princess Pitch made it work!). And finally... don't be too sad if it doesn't get published! This is a great framework for what could happen with some collaboration. What ends up being published doesn't need to be 101% perfect, it just needs some cleaning up. :]

I haven't watched the run yet, but I'm quite certain I'll be very entertained, and likely keep in on my media box for a long time. However... I can't see it going to anywhere but gruefood. It simply doesn't have the refinement for the vault, but is an excellent effort nonetheless. However, there is that one issue... games like Doom 64, Super Mario Kart, F-Zero have insanely high thresholds for perfect (or even 'acceptable') runs, and as such, these games never end up getting completed or accepted. I wish there was a solution to this, but there isn't a simple one. I'd like gruefood submissions to be a little more visible, and more submissions go to it... but I've been a fan for 10+ years, not really an issue for me if a run I like isn't published, I'll keep it somehow, heh. Anyhow... I look forward to watching it soon! Great effort, and I'm sure if you guys put your heads together, you could put together a worthy run given some time!

Welp, it looks like all issues have been solved, everyone's opinions are out there, and a decision is ready to be made. The only problem is that we're only up to page 6 here. Publication won't happen until at least 15 pages or so, we need to keep debating this further! :D (I'm poking fun at how SM submissions always turn out like this, but I've enjoyed the debating, nitpicking and constructive arguing almost as much as the movie itself!)

Yep, the concept of TASing to most Bemani* games (especially the currently TAS-able ones) is that it's simply Autoplay on. The only TAS scenario for a Bemani I could currently see is by playing the original Beatmania and creating new songs/remixes while still hitting the actual notes perfectly. But.... the original Beatmania.... -shudder- I wholeheartedly second Gitaroo Man, if/when it's possible; it would be much more entertaining. PS2 TASing hasn't gotten too far, has it? :o *Bemani refers to Konami's brand of rhythm games

To Garrison, first off, thanks for being part of that fantastic AGDQ 2014 race. I somehow had never heard of the events until this year, and watched your 2013 run later on. Loved that as well! As for your post, I wholeheartedly agree with everything you said. It's not like the GT code was published in Nintendo Power a few months after SM was released. It was discovered by hardcore fans 17 years later after its release. I loved Saturn's GT Code run, even though at the time, I did agree that it shouldn't have been published (although I think it should be resurrected to the vault or gruefood at least) because it didn't really show off anything new from existing runs. The whole point of this TAS is to execute code ASAP, but it shouldn't obsolete anything. I'd even go as far as to say that Super Metroid deserves its own full page chronicling the TAS runs history. It has enough categories to do so. Also, I must say that the heavy X-ray glitch run is dreadfully boring and the only SM run I don't enjoy watching repeatedly. It definitely belongs here, but I personally dislike it. It's much more bearable in short bursts, for example, hoandjzj's Super Metroid Zero Mission 100% TAS. A few seconds, and it's over, heh.

Wow... now THAT was a nostalgia bomb. I proudly owned this game as a child, and played it quite often, honestly. I remembered the levels just by the descriptions you gave, but I actually forgot how good the soundtrack is, haha. Anyway... watched it all, and I was VERY impressed and entertained. Yes vote. :]

That's the beauty of TASVideos. You don't have to find it hard to believe, the emulator and the authors' movie file are there for you. Run the movie up to the beginning of the Sol stage and find the improvement yourself if you think it can be done quicker.

This could be extremely interesting in the hands of a skilled TASer... Back when I had it on Dreamcast, I was able to clear Hard mode with no continues at my best. A Dot Eater run would be awesome as well...

One of the coolest TASes ever would be someone doing a superplay of Warlords with 4 controllers!
I just mentioned this in the wishlist thread, I thought of this game immediately when I saw the Atari games showing up. I'd really love to see that! Also, I wanted to thank you guys for this amazing software. I've been watching TASvideos for 5 or 6 years (I've even watched a couple of Adelikat's 'how to TAS' videos') and I finally took the first step in creating one. I had a ton of fun experimenting with making my first TAS crash test movies today with Megamania (A2600)... Awesome!

TrenchAce mentioned this already in the Bizhawk Development thread, Warlords. I thought of it immediately when I first saw the submitted runs. Lots of insane battles, introducing groups of friends to Warlords throughout the years! I'd also love to see how far Kaboom! can be pushed, as well. A personal favorite of mine, getting anywhere over 2,000 points is really intense. Some other 'infinite' games that stick out are... Fast Food: you are a mouth that eats scrolling junk food in accelerating rounds, avoiding purple pickles which end the game after 6 collected, could potentially become impossible to continue. Cosmic Ark would be a good one, and I'm not sure if that actually does end eventually, you're a spaceship that steals little creatures off planets in a UFO and shoot asteroids too. Haunted House is a strange 'Adventure'-ish game where you have to collect items in a pre-set 'dungeon', dark and difficult... never fully figured the game out, and it's uncommon. I'm surprised no one has mentioned Pitfall II as it has way, way more gameplay and substance than Pitfall. Everyone should check that game out, it's actually decent. Sneak 'n' Peak would be a good joke submission, or possibly to show every single spot you can hide. Yeah, a game where you hide n seek, lol. I own all these cartridges and many more... I'm currently trying my very first time at TASing today and I'm almost done with the 2nd repeat of a game called Megamania. A shooter that people always say looks like Space Invaders, but I think it's much better. I'll be sharing some WIPs when I get more comfortable with TASing but my netbook can't handle much.

I checked out your YouTube encode, and I really enjoyed it! I remembered watching another Super Metroid hack that was published recently and, shockers, you made that one as well! Seems like you really enjoy Super Metroid hacks (after grazing over your YouTube channel, that's a huge understatement!), have you considered the Super Metroid Zero Mission hack? I have played a good chunk of it on my Wii and I had a lot of fun with it so far. :D Now, as for this movie, there were a few things that stuck out to me: -The Draygon fight was refreshing, I'm sick of seeing him demolished in a fraction of a second. Awesome! -Although enemies were sparse sometimes, I can't help but think this was optimal for the run for entertainment and speed. Sure, there wasn't a fight in every room, but with taking damage to save time, the energy would have to be replaced later. -As for the hack itself, I personally didn't feel there was much rehashing with rooms from the original game. I'm pretty familiar with it as it's a top Metroid game for me, but there's only so much that can be changed without breaking the game. I don't have a very strong knowledge of SM hacks, though. I'm not sure what the game can and can't handle. -I really liked the use of 2x Shinespark to pass through the bomb wall, it was really cool to me! This is a would-be Yes vote from me, but I'm still a Lurker, and don't know when that will change. If I'm able to before voting ends, I definitely will! As for this being accepted... I'm thinking will be rejected, unfortunately (my basis for comparison is the MM2 hack situation). =/ I totally agree with the rules for ROM hack submissions, especially that the hack itself must be scrutinized. However... the earliest hack publication is 3.5 years ago, and 8 truly unique hacks are published to date (I don't count ones like Knuckles in Sonic, or Street Fighter Rainbow, etc...), and 4 hacks are in the Gruefood Delight. There are 3 SNES hacks published, 1 of them being your MockingBird one. I'm not saying the rules are too harsh, or unreasonable, but I'd like to see either two things... Either hacks are given their own section, and not just shared with alternate goals, demos, etc. Or, more hack submissions should make it into the Gruefood. Either way, good luck on this and future submissions! :D Yech, long-winded post. x.x

Fighting game TASes are rather contentious choices around here. People who aren't familiar with fighting games tend to get tired of watching the same character for extended periods of time, while people who are familiar are just generally very picky about the quality of the work with the character in question. I strongly recommend you check out the other fighting game TASes published here, particularly X-Men Vs. Street Fighter, where SDR kept things interesting by switching characters often and playing several 2P bouts so the game didn't entirely consist of an invincible player performing unanswerable combos on a series of punching bags.
That's probably the biggest thing I'd be worried about, lack of variety. I have seen many fighting game TASes, and SF2 Rainbow Edition is probably my favorite. The luxury of all characters at your disposal during a match is mesmerizing. I actually haven't seen the XvSF one, thank you for the suggestion! The problem with the World Tour mode in SFA3 is that you have to use one character only... however, being able to employ several different strategies through the leveling system, could be enough for people to enjoy. I'd say the biggest goal would have to be demonstrating all the different combinations for character configuration. I think the potential is there to make an awesome movie, but it has to be approached the right way... The -ISM Plus system is actually more complicated than I thought. Straight from CJayC's SFA3 FAQ-
In each Area, you will earn an ISM Plus, which is a special enhancement to your
character (such as extra damage or auto-blocking). All earned ISM Pluses are
active once you've earned them, but you can only earn a total of six.

The available ISM Pluses (and where they are earned) are:

   Air Guard (U.S.S.R., A-5)
Allows your character to block in mid-air, which Z-Ism and V-Ism can
      already do.
   Auto Guard (U.S.S.R., C-4)
Automatically blocks attacks (both high and low) as long as you're
not currently attacking, with the side effect of having a much smaller
      Guard Meter.
   Damage Plus (U.S.S.R., A-6)
Adds extra damage to all of your attacks.
   Guard Destroy (Europe, B-3)
Causes your blocked attacks to take off much more of your opponent's
      Guard Meter.
   Gauge Plus (America, B-4)
Causes your Super Gauge to slowly increase, and doubles the increase
      given for attacks and blocks.
   Guard Power Plus (Africa, B-7)
Decreases the amount of Guard Power lost when blocking.
   Guts (see below)
      Boosts your status maximums.
   Hard Body (Asia, A-4)
Makes it impossible for you to be dizzied. A great counter to Stun
      Attack battles.
   Infinity Guard (Africa, A-7)
Removes your Guard Meter, allowing you to guard infinitely.
   Limit Off (America, A-4)
Maxes out your attack power at the cost of your defense.
   Original Combo (Africa, A-8)
Allows your character to perform Original Combos in X and Z-Ism modes.
   Super Guard (U.S.S.R., B-4)
Allows your character to take no damage from blocked special moves. Nice
      to have against Super Vega.
   Super GP Plus (America, C-4)
Additional attack power against your opponent's guard meter.
   Super Zero Cancel (Europe, A-3)
Allows you to cancel your special moves into super combos. Rules for
starting the Super Combo (i.e. on ground/in air) still apply.
   Zero Cancel (Europe, B-2)
Allows you to cancel your normal moves into special moves.
   Zero Combo (Europe, A-2)
Allows you to cancel your normal moves into other normal moves.
   Zero Counter Plus (Asia, B-4)
Increases the damage done during a Zero Counter (Z-Ism and V-Ism modes).
There's a lot of potential through different -ISM Plus combinations as far as variety goes... When setting up the character before the next battle, only 2-3 -ISM Plus can be activated, some are worth 2 points, and some are worth 1. Mmmmm, cancelling with TAS precision.... ah well. These are still all "I would"s until I have a capable machine for PS1 TASing. :]

I truly would love to do this, as my first two TAS choices are shot down (MM2 DeusExMachina got rejected, and Tetris Attack SNES desynchs a lot), but my main computer is a netbook at the moment. =/ I've been watching for 5+ years and have a good grasp on what makes a good TAS and how to do it, and already love SFA3. I still regularly play it on my HTC EVO, PS1 emu HDMI mirrored to my LCD and using a Wii Classic controller, lol. Only problem might be my character choice. I'd be using Sakura and that's that. I can already pull off lots of juggling in real time and with TAS abusing I think I could make some great variety. It would likely be an A-ISM run with the V-ISM Custom Combo ability ASAP, to get through those certain missions. She has essentially 9 different fireballs (3 strengths, 1-3 taps), Sakura Otoshi (the hop with up to 3 overhead smashes in mid-air), medium Shou'ouken is juggling beast, and Shunpuukyaku (hurricane kick) can be done in air, too. 3 Special Combos and Custom Combos would make for a lot of variety. And of course tweak for higher damage and lower defense... I really like the 'autofill -ism gauge' for normal play, but I'm not sure how that would do in TAS vs. other choices. Perhaps some entertainment/speed tradeoffs can be acceptable, like using the 'special attacks do more chip damage' ability to crush a turtling opponent with 40-50 custom combo hits all blocked, lol. When I build my next desktop I'd love to take this on... But what do you guys think of Sakura? It's to my understanding that in general, any one character is acceptable for a fighting game TAS, as long as it's reasonable to keep that one character... But I'd hate to get rejected for character choice. Oh, and also... first post. Woot. Finally not a lurker anymore!
