Link to video Aaaaand we're back! This Kingdom was improved quite dramatically, considering that this was the point in the original set where I had discovered same-wall jumping tricks. Over 1000 frames saved, and massive improvements on all levels. Extra points from bonus games lets me skip a huge chunk of Sweet Paradise. A new ELEVEN BATS tactic ("takes damage to save time" get) lets me score obscene points and tighten the scoring. And better understanding of movement alone speeds up the Tusk fight by 142 frames. The only question then is... how many months until the next update? :V

It's coming up on a year since Rachel Bryk passed, and I was thinking that it would be a wonderful gesture if we could possibly organize some kind of... something or other to send to her family to help them out around that time. I once messaged Rachel's mother on Facebook a couple months after it happened, just to say that I was thinking about Rachel and how much it effected me even though I couldn't even call her an acquaintance of mine. Her mom said the thing she fears the most is that Rachel would be, or already was, completely forgotten. I can't say I can even imagine exactly what it's like to go through that sort of event. I would take a guess that it doesn't really go away, it's just better or worse at different points. And there's not really anything we can do to take it away entirely. I'm sure that it'll get worse in April. That's why I think that, no matter how big or small, it would be a great thing to say "TASVideos has not forgotten Rachel." The fear of her being forgotten is one thing we can do something about. I messaged adelikat about this privately first (I basically copy-pasted this from that message), and they'd love to see this happen but worry that they're too busy to manage it. So I'm bringing this to the forums. Maybe we can set something up where we can send a care package of some sort. Or donations, some flowers, whatever works. I've never really done anything like this before and I'm pretty much a nobody in this community, so I figured it'd be better to pose the idea and see what kind of interest there is rather than lay out a fully-fleshed idea myself. I'd definitely love to contribute and help out with something like this, though! I'm just not sure I could be a sole leader on it. Anyone interested?

Thank you for the kind words. I'm glad this TAS is making people happy. Two things I wanted to note: First, I improved the Mo-Hog fight further. I think in my initial run I under-tested some things with him. In the improved fight, I only use one fruit each time and thus beat him up twice. This saves about two seconds. Secondly and so much more importantly, I wanted to say one last "thank you" to RachelB, who just recently passed away. She helped me get off the ground with this TAS both with some advice/basic tips as well as getting the Bongo controller settings to function properly in Dolphin. Rarely has the passing of someone who was mostly a stranger to me made my heart sink so deeply. Rest in peace...

For absolutely no reason at all, this boss gets angry at 400 damage instead of 300. There is no known way to avoid his animation. So fruit to the face it is!

Link to video I feel very solid about this kingdom now. And my new minigame trick works on Rocs so every Roc fight is gonna be faster. This one is a fraction of a second, but future ones will be seconds faster.

I did some poking around different revisions. In 4523, the save states work fine. In 4536 and onward, it's uncommon that saving a state properly saves the previous frame's input. It sometimes does but not often at all. Hopefully this helps solve the problem. I could see this being problematic for anyone's TAS! Edit: Reported this to the Dolphin page. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, Patashu!

Forgive my topic-spam. :P Trying out Dolphin 4.0-4547, I noticed some odd behavior with Save States. When I save a state, the input of the previous frame is ignored. So say on Frame 2567, I input "Start" to begin a level, and then I save state at 2568. The "Start" works fine at that point. But when I reload the state, the game has not received the "Start" I input on 2567 and does not begin the level. Edit: By "Frame" I mean "Input", I should mention.

Guess it was just that version then. I'd downloaded 4.0-3350 a long time ago and taken a break from TASing. New version seems to record audio just fine! Thanks.

I switched to Dolphin 4.0-3350 to restart my Donkey Kong Jungle Beat TAS. I recorded a short clip, but I could not get the audio to record properly. It seemed to match that frame rate at the time of recording. So when I was recording with frames, my game was running at 3-4 FPS and the audio was recording in real time, thus ending up like 10 minutes long for a clip under a minute long. I tried re-recording without recording frames and it recorded more at the ~25FPS I got. Am I missing an option? I'm using XAudio2 like I used to on Dolphin 3. OpenAL is also laggy-sounding. I tried "No Audio Output" recording as well and that glitched up in its own special way. If this is a problem with this version, then I can switch to some other one.

Link to video Donkey Kong continues to cheat at races. I get a little demotivated and leave 35 extra points lying around. As I mention in the Youtube video comment, the whole game is getting re-run anyways to make use of new tricks so I'm just looking to close out the first draft here. :)

I could but it wasn't useful to do so. The first set of hits obviously had to be separate. Doing so when the right one's heart was exploding would cause the left one to spawn only two pineapples because two of his were in the right's heart. It would also cause him to spawn his pineapples too early, with the right one shooting them with cannonballs and destroying them. Finally, it still shows both cutscenes, so no time would really be saved, even if these problems weren't here. I would have done it for entertainment value if it didn't take up time though, because it causes some minor glitches.
