Man, this thing rocks. XD I was just 'experimenting' with all the buttons etc, and randomly drawing whatever came to mind, and it ended up like this... http://artpad.art.com/?if61tk13py8o I have come to the conclusion that I am quite disturbing. XD EDIT: Where is the blue! I am saddened by the lack of blue. Surely blue is the most important colour in paintings!

Gobliiins rocked. Every level was oh-so-easy if you knew what you were doing, and you didn't often have to do more than ~3 corrent things per level. However, it was the amount of wrong things you could do which made it so impressive, almost every object on the screen had an action associated with it. I didn't care much for the sequels though (Gobliins 2, Goblins 3), as like their titles imply, they removed a goblin each time and made it more 'kings quest'y than its original. ^^;

What's worrying is that I can remember the menu music of Supaplex, and the 'start the game' tune of Captain Comic perfectly. I loved Captain Comic too... I never did get anywhere near to completing it though. I got it on a magazine demo disk, and from what I remember, it was really open-ended. Loads of different doors and the such, all leading to different places. I can only remember the starting 'level', with the tree stumps. I think you 'fired' coke cans or something, too? Or am I getting distracted by memories of Duke Nukem? Hm, what other games... I remember one called 'Castles' or something, where you... built.. castles... okay, I can't remember a thing about it. Except that you built a castle. Building a castle is cool.

Oh man, Supaplex. That used to be one of my favourite PC games... the amount of levels it had was incredible. I loved the way you 'unlocked' levels, too. While we're on the topic of old obscure DOS games, I used to play 'Lexicross' (I think that's what it was called?) non-stop. It was in the format of a gameshow... and was kind of like wheel of fortune and scrabble combined. Plus, you got to create your own avatars, and the host commented on your birthmonth and the such... I thought it was really clever at the time. ^_^ Oh, and a game called Boppin'! It was a puzzle game by Accursed Toys, where you had these two stickmen with triangular heads, who had to throw tiles in diagonal directions, so they paired up with other tiles. It's kinda hard to explain, really. Oh, and each time you threw a tile without making a pair, you lost a life... and if you lost all of your lives, the little triangular-headed-guy would commit suicide. XD It was full of references to classic arcade games too... I think the 'plot' had something to do with enemies coming out of games or somesuch. It came with a level editor too, and I used to love any game where I got to make my own things.

I gather the irony was lost on you... 'Boobahs' is the most god-awful thing ever. Imagine Barney the Dinosaur on drugs (quite literally), and you've got a good image of it. And, yes, I do find episodes of Boobahs more interesting than the '20 minutes of bland dialogue, screaming, and punching' of DBZ.

To say this is debatable would be an understatement... at least as far as my personal opinion goes. As for music, I can safely say I've heard better songs (and lyrics) than 'Cha La Head Cha La'. As for the anime itself... well, I'd honestly prefer watching Boobahs than DBZ. At least Boobahs has the curiousity factor, where you can't help but want to know what freaky horrors will appear next...

They already have made a game-- It's called Super Demo World... See if you can get through that one first!

If you want to call it that, yes. And indeed, it is made by people, not cats which many could first assume. (Which is a shame.) It's just an 'edit' of Super Mario World that replaces all the levels, and adds some custom-new-things.

Well, I'm sure we all know about 'Super Demo World' now, the huge SMW hack with all-new levels etc. What I'm wondering, is... are there any more worthwhile game hacks out there, for other games? Key word being 'worthwhile', of course... I've seen near-hundreds of hacks for the original Super Mario Bros., that only change sprites, or the title screen, and other such useless nonsense. I'm looking for hacks that have changed things around so much, that they are 'new games', while still retaining the gameplay quality of the original. So, does anyone here know of any?

You can't improve on times for warioware, really... especially on stages that have background vocal music, as they force the stages to last for the full '5 seconds', even if you beat it in one second. Warioware, by definition, requires the very opposite of a speedrun... the point of the game is that there is no real end, and you have to try to last as long as possible. A 'level 999 on hard mode' run wouldn't be entertaining in the least, and a 'completed as quick as possible' would be nothing more than a walkthrough, as regular plays would last around the same time. It's like trying to time-attack tetris, it just doesn't work. ^^;

When every single tool-assisted run we've seen so far is 2D, yes, yes it is. :P Having three dimensions in a game would add a lot of complexity to a tool-assisted run... it'd naturally involve more precision. Many 2D platformers tend to be based on 'holding right' to get from point A to B, whereas 3D games would need a 'perfect path' in every corridor, much like playing a racing game.

A coincidence that I should see this thread, I've only just been trying to get 'into' the whole wrestling thing again... so I thought I'd give my view of Pro Wrestling, as it appears to be pretty different from all you 'old-school' type peoples. :3 I didn't know a single thing about wrestling until I was about 14-15 or so(?), when it became the latest 'cool thing' at my school. I mean, sure, I knew of WWF before that, but had never seen it... the extent of my knowledge on wrestling consisted of 'there's a guy called Hulk Hogan and there are action figures of him'. Anyway, I first started watching it when the 'Attitude' era was just kicking in, with Stone Cold, Vince, and Degeneration-X being the main focus. I did think it was cool, mainly in terms of all the gimmicks and 'big matches' that were occuring on a constant basis. Honestly, the actual 'wrestling' part of it all was somewhat dull to me. ^^; What I did love about it though, was the all of the hype, suspense, flashy lights, fireworks, 'gimmick' matches (cage, TLC, etc.), big yearly events (royal rumble), music, over-the-top characters... and so on and so forth. After about a year of watching it every so often though, and the fad started to die out amongst friends at school, I just lost interest in it. Just recently, out of boredom and short-term-nostalgia, I thought I'd check out the latest PPVs and PS2 game, and I'm loving it all over again. This time around I'm actually kinda impressed with the wrestling too... although it's still just the 'flashy' moves and expert timing that I love. All in all, it's pretty much the only 'sport' that I would go out of my way to watch... mainly because it's not a sport at all, but more of a show. The fact that it isn't 'real' is what draws me to it, and I love the extreme angle that they go for. If it weren't for the pretty logos and forced personalities, I wouldn't care for it whatsoever. ^^

Don't you get a medal or somesuch for completing a level without getting hit? It's been years since I've played the game (it was my very first GBA game, along with Castlevania), but I recall some kind of status symbol for beating a level perfectly. There's also 'bonuses' around levels, such as paint for your 'helicopter'. If that's so, then I'd like to see a 100% run myself... getting all pickups, and never taking damage. I just think it'd be more entertaining to see it played perfectly, than just brute-forcing your way through passages.

I'd like to see some of the 3D-esque GBA games run... Duke Nukem and Doom for example. Simply for the prettiness. :3 Oh, and being myself, I'd be interested in 'novelty' runs. Silent Scope, for example... it makes me wonder how fast you can complete a game like that, considering that with savestates, you could get instant-headshots on every enemy. The only time you'd need to pause, is waiting for ammunition to reload.

Given the fact I seem to have odd tastes in speedruns... here's what's on my wishlist (the ones that haven't been previously mentioned, anyway...): GBMono: Kirby's Pinball Land (Is this even completable? I know it has the three 'worlds' and bosses etc., but I have a feeling it loops forever...) Ultima I+II (I've honestly never played an Ultima game on gameboy... which is why I'd be interested in seeing them completed as fast as possible XD) Addams Family (I've no idea if this is different to the console versions.) Kirby's Dream Land 1+2 (Probably mentioned before... but I'll say it again anyway!) And, of course, Megaman 1-5. GBC: Bomberman Max (Everyone loves Bomberman!) Cannon Fodder (War has never been so much fun.) Apogee spinoffs- Commander Keen/Duke Nukem (The GBC versions caused me to vomit, so I'd like to see these games played... I mean, I'm sure not going to play them) Cartoon Network spinoffs- Dexter, PPG, etc. (I never played these games, so they'd be fun to see. I assume.) Donkey Kong Land+Country (as obvious as Mega Man) Fort Boyard (Awesome show, crap game. Perhaps along the lines of the cartoon network games? Morbid curiosity!) Grand Theft Auto (GTA on gameboy. Crazy!) Alone in the Dark Resident Evil (Survival Horrors with beepysounds!) Metal Gear Solid (or Ghost Babel, rather.) Tomb Raider (because it's got like tombs and stuff) ...and that's all. ^_^

I did a speedrun just for fun today in a racing game-- Outrun on the Genesis. It takes the hardest route (rightmost), and is on the secret hardest difficulty. The finishing time was 4'24"24. I won't bother submitting it to the site itself, because it's not really entertaining. PS. I stopped the movie after entering the secret ending 'cheat' in the highscores, and as it takes so long to actually go to the ending sequence itself, you can just press start after the highscores to jump to it. Originally 2 player alone, but it kinda irritated me, and I lost interest and stopped bothering. ^^; A lot of the time, only one player could fight an enemy, and the other one just kinda stood around, and it looked silly in my opinion.

There's one game that I know the entire soundtrack to off by heart, yet have still never played the game... and that's Jet Set Radio Future. ^_^ I got the soundtrack when it was released and listened to it so much.

I just did a quick google for Prince of Persia screenshots for both versions... - Here's the Mega CD version graphics - Here's the Megadrive version graphics I suppose it's just a matter of different styles.. the Mega CD one is more like the original, I guess.

I seem to recall the Mega CD version of Prince of Persia having much, much worse graphics than the regular Megadrive version... whether this is my imagination or not I don't know. ^^;

Is there more than one Toki? I remember playing Toki on Mega Drive and getting through it without that much difficulty, so this sounds strange.
Nope, it's the Toki you're thinking of. But on hardest mode.. 'hardest' is an understatement... and trying to run it is so so difficult because there are enemies bouncing around -everywhere-, and Toki's so slow, it's very difficult avoiding them. And, of course, you die in one hit.
