If you do this whole game on the hardest difficulty... I will die from shock. :p I tried it last week or so, couldn't even get past the first couple of screens, with savestates and slowdown..

I'd rather see both... .. ^_^;; Oh, hey, this is my first one-line post here! I need to add more text!!!!! Yes, Ecco is a hard game. The sequel is harder too. I used to spend ages when I was little just jumping around in the surface of the water.. great times... Then, when Ecco came out the the Dreamcast, I did -exactly- the same thing. Just sat there splashing around the water saying "ooooh pretty..."

"What is the next great RPG I should play? I hear good things about FF1 for NES." I suppose it depends on your opinion-- I personally can't stand FF1. Lufia 2 definitely rocks though, especially the.. what's it called.. optional dungeon-quest-thingy in it.. basically, it involves starting a randomly-generated dungeon with no equipment at all and at really low levels, and you get to work your way through up to 100 levels, picking up equipment and gaining levels as you go. It's so basic and simple, yet somehow so addictive. And save states can remove the original console annoyance of getting really, really 'deep' into the dungeon and then dying. :P I'd recommend playing a game called 'Soul Blazer', too. It's very simplistic, with a Zelda-style way of defeating enemies. But, the coolest part is every time you clear a portal of monsters (there's hundreds of them), something new gets built in the village, a new path in a dungeon opens, a new townsperson comes to the village, or you gain an item of some kind. That little 'reward' system is what makes the game so cool.

Woo, I just tried a 2-player speedrun of the first level.. it's very awkward, but I'm getting the hang of it I think. Single player time of first level - 63 seconds 2-player time of first level - 56 seconds Not much of a time difference, but in speedruns, those 7 seconds become a long time.

I got to beat up the innocent townpeople in my Golden Axe run while I was waiting. Always fun. ^_^

The superhero to us all now maintains a new task of duty-- Speedrunning the forums! Yes, nobody else can read them as fast as NesVideo Agent!

Woo, finished it already! As always, I've linked in the top post. Features- inducing enemies into commiting suicide by falling off ledges. Only the maximum spell level used. A+++ ranking at game end. And, as usual, no damage ever taken. ^_^

Golden Axe in 10:47 -- Download gmv here! I'm currently working on this game now. Yes, this is my 4th scrolling beat-em-up attempt in a row. Playing through it with slowdown makes me realise just how short of a game it is.. the same happened with me and Altered Beast. When I used to play it, the levels seemed huge.. and now they're just so tiny!

But, to be fair, I'd probably watch movies of just about anything. o.o; I would, too. I'd love to see, at some point many years in the future, a run for just about every game on a console. I can honestly see things like this becoming the next gamefaqs- after all, seeing someone play a game perfectly often gives you -great- tips on how to play it normally, and shows you all the shortcuts etc. Of course, I could just be crazy.

Blah, my fault. I used to play it a lot on that. I just assumed it was in the Megadrive one too. Kinda like how I assumed things like Lorenzo's Soil in EWJ2 was on the PC version ^^;

I'd like to add 'Toki' on hardest mode to that impossible game list. With major slowdown and loads of save/load states, I couldn't even get past the first few screens.

Well peoples, I've thrown in the towel on this game, and figured it'd be best to leave to someone else. Seeing as I'm in a lazy mood, I'll just copy/paste my reason from IRC. :) [08:08] <CherryMay> I think I might give up on EWJ and leave it to someone more talented. When I look back at myself playing, I think things like.. "hey, at one point I got four shots on that boss instead of three.. why didn't I do that every time?".. and, of course, I would need to start again from the end of the first level anyway, to intentionally miss fuel pods in Andy Asteroids. Plus, there's a swing-hook-thingy in level 2 that I have no idea how to reach, and I'm sure it would make the run shorter. So, there we go. I do hope someone else gives it a shot though, it was one of my Genesis favourites. Gotta love the nonsensical yet refined style it has. And especially as there are a -lot- of major shortcuts and alternate routes in the levels, it would make a very interesting run.

It's called 'Who turned out the lights?', and there's an optional entrance to it in Level 5.

Okay, so I started trying to attack this game today... but... I have been pondering what would make a 'better' video. A. Perfectly completing all Andy Asteroids levels, getting every fuel pod, running the 'extra' Peter Puppy part of the level, and going to the secret level. B. Intentionally failing on Andy Asteroids and totally skipping the 'extra' parts of levels for the sake of time. Personally, I would much rather want to do A. However.. many others claim that things such as sonic special stages are boring to see in speedruns (even though you get a bad ending), plus anybody could just 'beat' my time by skipping them out, thus making my run entirely useless. So, what do you peoples prefer, speed or perfection? I know this is a speed-oriented site, but I think it would be much better to do -everything- as fast as possible, rather than only the basic necessities as fast as possible.

Very impressive ^_^ How did you gain 15 seconds on the second level though? Considering it auto-scrolls, and the boss practically dies instantly, I'm not sure how you can speed up the pace.

.....aside from the fact that Mario is a plumber, and enemies came out of pipes in the original Mario Bros.?

(EDIT 2: Dan's making much better runs of this game, head to the last page for his ones ^^) Altered Beast Rev 02 in 07:40 Well, continuing my trend of putting my scrolling-beat-em-up skills to recordings, I just attacked Altered Beast, with a final result of 7 minutes and 40 seconds. Seeing how Altered Beast is pretty empty of features, there's not much more I can say, except that I killed every enemy that appeared on-screen. An interesting note: There's a cheat code in Altered Beast, which lets you select which beast you will transform into on each level. Personally, I regard this as a cheat, so didn't bother with it. However, for someone with more imagination and less morals, you could likely get a MUCH better time by choosing beasts that compliment bosses perfectly. ^_^

'Coin Op' is short for 'Coin Operated'. I don't think there are any home consoles in which you put money in the cartridge slot :)

I am trying to argue that you lose nothing by granting permission. I'm more opposed to someone else -making- money. I suppose it'd be like taking a freeware game, which was made by one person working away at a computer for hours and hours, and then selling it to loads of people for profit. Even though it's free, it's not yours to sell, and I'm sure the programmer would be offended seeing his free game making someone ELSE money. I believe no money whatsoever should be involved anywhere. If these videos were being put on CDs for FREE, then I have no objection. In fact, I encourage it, as long as credit is given.

Okay guys, it's done! URL posted in top post. ^_^ Many enemies in this game were very cheap, far cheaper than Sailor Moon. They have a habit of being unhittable for absolutely no reason a lot of the time, especially the bosses when they get low on health. I suppose this is to 'add to the challenge', and 'make them seem like they're getting tougher', but I just call it cheap. :) Also, fighting the same boss (Goldar) three times in a row is not fun. As usual, all items collected. :) Took the semi-hidden Lord Zedd boss route. Used a mix of rangers and zords, but purposely avoided the Red and Blue Rangers (their special attacks were short-range, everyone else's are long range and generally more useful) Final score of 928,000 Time of 18min 57sec from first to last input.

I think that's more of a 'Game Over' screen than an ending. The primary goal of the game is to rescue Sandy- obviously killing her isn't really 'completing the game'. Killing yourself moreso. I don't think it's very interesting at all to see a game over screen-- All you'd have to do to get that so-called 'ending' is have one person press the gargoyle, and the other person turn off the circuit breakers. And that's it, you get the 'ending'. 'Finishing' the game this way would be like trying to lose all of your lives as fast as you can in Contra. Sure, you might be able to kill yourself quickly, but is it worth it?

This kid is just trying to stump me. There is no reason for it, he doesn't even know. If you're asking people on a board, then you -are- stumped. Admit defeat. :P

when you said vocals I thought you meant singing. You know, with words. Silly me. Um, I did. Sure, it may be sung in Latin, but it doesn't make it any less vocal does it? http://www.animelyrics.com/game/ffvii/ff7owa.htm
