I know you can't help the extra shots that the upgraded gun shoots at once. I meant that you should avoid shooting an enemy more times than it takes to kill him. If your bullets pass through him without hitting him, that would be considered a missed shot.

Edit: I've found out, it's because of "graphics > show statistics" check box. Well, how to hide then all these informations ? If I uncheck it, will I still have the informations I'd like to have on screen ?
The Show Statistics checkbox is required to show any blue text on the screen. This tutorial replaces those statistics with RAM Watch addresses to be useful for TASers. I don't know what went wrong, but you'll definitely want to keep that box checked. EDIT: Apparently you deleted your post before I posted, but if you're still here, hopefully this helps you.

Thanks, Ferret Warlord. I've corrected it. I hope feos notices the change before putting "100%" in the encodes. To clarify, the run aims for (fastest) maximum score because it forgoes a trick that saves time but takes away points. Items contribute to the score, so achieving 100% is an inherent secondary goal.

Malleo has lost motivation for this at the moment due to having to deal with a desync that occurred in the middle of the run when changing from 4.0-926 to 4.0-1478 and the inevitable re-manipulation of Jabbi fights and other luck-based events. He's also busy with other things in his life right now. My guess is that the improvement run won't be finished this year.

Gotcha. Then you'll want this thread and to aim to beat this run.

Great! Feel free to play around with the tools first and get a grasp of TASing before aiming to get a run published. Whenever you're ready, you can post your progress in the Mega Man X forum thread; just make sure the run you're making beats this published run.

That's a good idea. Maybe there could be an option to fall back to DirectX, like how we can fall back to NESHawk if Quicknes doesn't support a certain game. It could be made into a single line in config.ini that allows people like Kurabupengin who can't start BizHawk at all to change, for example, a variable called Renderer from "OpenGL" to "DirectX".

Welcome to TASVideos! I would recommend BizHawk 1.7.0; it's just as accurate as lsnes but more user-friendly.

It looks pretty fast and entertaining overall, but I think it can be improved a little. I would give it a 7. In general, try not to miss shots. If it takes only one or two shots to kill an enemy, then you should only shoot that many times instead of shooting over and over at him, as this looks sloppy. Also, try to shoot enemies as soon as possible, even if they're not on the screen yet. Doing so may allow you to continue moving forward without any delays. Other than the missed shots, you managed to make the autoscrolling levels entertaining, which can be hard to do. Good job! At 0:29, would you be able to hit those enemies on top of the stable by shooting upwards, or can you not hit them until they jump down? If you can hit them while they're on top of the stable, that would save time. At the boss fights at 4:10, 9:04, and 11:25, check to make sure that your shots are actually hitting him. If he doesn't flash white, then your shot may not have hit and you might need to wait a few frames before shooting again (especially for the boss with the shield). This will ensure that you hit him as soon as he becomes vulnerable every time, which will allow you to defeat him faster. At the levels that start at 5:57 and 8:28, it appears that the game is lagging because of the large amount of enemies on screen. Lag is when the game can't keep up with what's happening onscreen and so wastes a frame to make sure it processes everything. You should try to avoid lag when making a TAS if at all possible, as wasted frames only make the movie slower and longer. I would recommend shooting as many of those enemies as you can without slowing down or going backwards as you do in the last level.

If max score was the main goal and speed tradeoffs (assuming climbing down is slower) were used to achieve that goal, then this should be published with the branch name "maximum score", right?

Here's an encode. Annoying as they are, the horizontal black bars appear to be part of the game: Link to video As I explained in this post in the "Yar%" discussion thread, the game doesn't count completion percentage and obtaining these easter eggs doesn't change the game, meaning these two runs are just slower any% runs. It's okay to want to show off more of the game by collecting additional items, but it's important to make sure those items count for something if you want it to be published here, especially if it's going to the Vault (which this run inevitably would if it didn't contain any tradeoffs). I did notice the route planning you did—good job on that and your efforts to optimize your movements! If possible though, try to make sure E.T. is always running instead of walking so you don't waste unnecessary time. While the only viable branch for this game (unless someone discovers a game-breaking glitch or something) is any%, there are lots of any% runs of games on the site that don't have a corresponding 100% TAS yet. Maybe you can find a game you like that is easy enough to TAS and 100% it, using the existing any% run as a handy reference.

Here's an encode. The horizontal black bars are part of the game, though they make it look like the encode is just sitting in the center of the screen. Link to video This run appears somewhat suboptimal in its movement (I noticed E.T. starts walking at one point) and it doesn't use the published run's sliding trick to rise out of holes faster. However, the real problem is with the categories. The game doesn't keep track of completion percentage, and as shown by this video, the ending doesn't change at all whether or not you get the flower, Yar, or Indiana Jones. They are simply easter eggs put in by the programmer as references to the two previous games he programmed (Yars' Revenge and Raiders of the Lost Ark) and this one (the flower). As such, these two runs are just any% runs with large detours to show off some easter eggs, and not real, publishable categories for this game.

"Best ending" is used when a run primarily aims to get the better/best ending (usually for games that don't keep track of the percentage you've completed). Here, it appears that the author's intent was to "capture all stages", or in other words, achieve 100% completion, so I believe the current branch name best describes this movie's goal. The run is tagged with both "100% completion" and "Best ending", however, as it achieves both.

Those duties are already filled by our editors (and higher ranks) and moderators, and both do a pretty great job of that already. For example, I've rarely happened upon a spam topic or problem post before the offensive content was edited, split or removed by a moderator. All of us are human though, and we do miss things. If you notice something that needs to be cleaned up or fixed, the best thing to do is report it to someone with the necessary privileges or post here in the Sites subforum (as you have been). Though, perhaps a thread could be made for the general reporting of problems in movie descriptions and wiki pages to cut down on the number of threads being made.

I found this mostly entertaining, though around the 8-minute mark (I went back and checked), it started to feel repetitive. No fault of yours, of course. I'm going with Meh. I didn't mind the awesome music though, especially when your constantly collecting treasure kept the best part going! I have a question though: why didn't you fall down a lot more of the holes like you did in your any% submission? Is it slower to do so, or does it take the same amount of time as climbing down and doing the latter was a stylistic choice?

Totally awesome! I really like all the little things you did to make the run entertaining, and finishing all of the games around the same time was also a nice touch. Yes vote!

It's been said before, but the easiest way to watch a quadrun is to stare at the center of the screen and watch all four movies with your peripheral vision. This should allow you to enjoy as much of the action as possible. As for the audio, I suppose there's not much you can do other than turn your volume down a lot lower (that's what I did to watch this).

As mentioned in this post, shouldn't the 100% branch be removed when it's required to do so to trigger the credits?
There is a different ending if you don't complete all of the stages (even though it doesn't roll the credits), so the tag applies in this case.

The name of the game is actually "Saturn Bomberman", so it should probably be corrected. But that would make this "Saturn Saturn Bomberman (USA) 'Master Game'", which sounds like an error, so should it be changed?

Oh....then it works. I apologize, I should've asked first if it was safe to copy over my config.ini from BizHawk 1.6.1.

In BizHawk 1.7.0, I get this exception every time I try to load an N64 game: I tried Blues Brothers 2000, F-Zero X, Mario Party, and Paper Mario. Double-clicking the game in the Open ROM... dialog causes BizHawk to throw this exception and then never loads the game. Upon loading the N64 Plugin Settings (through Config>Cores>N64 Video Plugin Settings) or attempting to save the plugin settings, BizHawk will throw this exception: In the latter case, the exception will prevent you from saving any changes. This (major) bug was not in BizHawk 1.6.1.

Fixed.
It appears that the site read his Genesis bkm as a Saturn bkm. Was that intended?

Genesis and Saturn .bkm movies are not supported right now. Someone having access to the site's parser code needs to implement that
Would whoever implements this also be able to change the Dolphin dtm parser to calculate movie time from the frame count (0x015) instead of the VI count (0x00D)? This would be easier than the current method of having to manually edit each submission's displayed time.
