If you're asking how to make the emulator display the input on screen, there should be a setting for that, just as there's a setting for displaying the frame count on screen. Most emulators have that under something like Heads-Up Display>Input Display or Show>Input.

Unreal has it right. The only times you can manipulate him (through wasting frames) to not ask "Are you sure?" is on questions 2-4.

What happens if you swap to goombella as you exit Petalburg? Would koop's girlfriend still strike you?
Since the game thinks you only have Goombella, it won't let you switch to her in the partners menu. It's not known whether that would even allow skipping the Koopie Koo cutscene, as it can't be tested. For now, though, there's no known way to skip that cutscene.

Nicely done! And I thought it was entertaining how close you got to dying at the end.

We now have two runs of Super Metroid with no branch name, this and the "X-Ray glitch" run. One of them needs to have one, so how about labeling the X-Ray run "low%", as Cpadolf suggested?
As there were no objections in the 3 weeks since I posted this question, I'm going to go ahead and set the branch name to "low%". If needed, it can always be changed.

The slower published run now needs a branch name. Both of the authors like "No Esc", but I was thinking of something that more directly expressed what this run does to complete the game so fast, like "no game state manipulation". Obviously, this suggestion is open to discussion and possible modification to sound better. Otherwise, it seems that "No Esc" would have to be lengthened to something like "no Escape key" or "no pressing Escape" in order to be clear.

Regardless of the optimization level, I don't think this is a good enough game choice to be published here. It's too short, with too few chances for actual input (similar to the problem with the recently rejected Super Road Blaster submission), which also makes it too similar to a real-time speedrun as Radiant noted. No vote.

BTW, off-topic, but how do you adjust your profile settings to have multiple avatars, to reflect different moods? It's a cool feature, but I can't find any way to adjust it in my settings.
It's a privilege given to members who have accrued at least 350 posts. Once you've reached that number, another field will appear in your profile allowing you to specify a set of filenames to use for your mood avatars. You can read more about it here. EDIT: Spikestuff beat me to it.

Before this is published, the time needs to be corrected. The site parsed the time of the run based on the VI count (18463) instead of the frame count (36711). Since this game runs at 30 FPS, the calculated time is half what it should be, which is a problem. The correct calculated time is 36711 / 60 = 611.85, or 10:11.85.

Also looking forward to the WIPs! Take your time optimizing it though, we can wait.

Very nice WIP! I never thought I'd actually be entertained by Superman 64.

CoolKirby, I noticed this a few times before, but I noticed again with your recent additions: in my opinion, your movie descriptions are a bit too bland and negative. They pretty much just enumerate the reasons the runs were rejected, instead of explaining what makes them actually interesting, or adding a bit of excitement and/or humor to the descriptions. (Look at most of the current entries, especially many of the older ones). That'd make them a bit more fun to read.
Oh man, my bad. I don't know if I even realized I was doing that. I will fix those soon (though I can't right now). I did try to do something more positive with Superfast Mario Bros. though — is that more how I should word my other descriptions?

Actually, it turns out there was an encode put on Dailymotion by Critical five when he was actively encoding Gruefood submissions (which I want to thank him for, as most of the encodes on Gruefood Delight are from his collection), so I went ahead and replaced the removed YouTube video with the Dailymotion one. I also added Pokémon Gold "Mr. Pi's TAS", Super Road Blaster, and Superfast Mario Bros.

I'd like gruefood submissions to be a little more visible, and more submissions go to it... but I've been a fan for 10+ years, not really an issue for me if a run I like isn't published, I'll keep it somehow, heh.
There is something of a solution to this problem: a collection of interesting rejected/cancelled submissions called Gruefood Delight. If this submission isn't published, it will be put on there for people to enjoy.

It's wonderful to see people discussing the slower run's branch name! I like how amaurea spelled out what the published "11 exits" run does:

finish the game using the normal shortest route - the 11 exit path
How about something like "shortest intended route" or "shortest normal path" to convey that it follows the fastest route to Bowser intended by the game's developers?

Thank you for your very helpful post! I'm going to go ahead and change the branch of this run to "no save glitch", using the precedent set by EarthBound Zero (the bread crumbs glitch is not possible in the USA version, though that was the version used for the longer run and "no breadcrumbs glitch" was used as the branch name). It can always be changed if someone has a problem with it, but this appears to be the best solution for now. It seems like the second best option would be changing the game names to Rockman DX3 (Rockman 3) and Rockman DX3 (Rockman X3), and third best would be naming them Rockman DX3 and Zook Hero 2.

Also the only thing I believe shouldn't be TAS'd are games that never end (nor have any definable place to loop) or fixed length games.
Space Invaders, SG1000 Galaga, MSX Galaga, A7800 Galaga, A2600 Frogger, MSX Frogger, Coleco Frogger, -insert PAC-MAN here-. I don't see a problem at all.
When he said "never end nor have any definable place to loop", he meant games that continuously generate new, more difficult content and never loop back to the first level like your examples do. A run of a game like Temple Run, for example, wouldn't be publishable because the game has nothing that can be called an objective ending point.

Hmm, I'm not sure. Could we distinguish the movies by the name of the game in the title screen of their respective dump, despite that both games were released as Rockman DX3?

I don't think "all stages" would work. Technically an optimal all stages run would use the save glitch version and just run through each stage there - saves having to fight each boss at the end (as they're already beaten, although they can still be refought in the boss rush), saves having to revisit stages for upgrades, and already has time-saving upgrades and weapons from the start.
Then what can we call this run? It needs to have some sort of branch name to distinguish it from the other run. "100%", maybe? Since this run legitimately goes through all the steps to attain 100% completion while 100% in the other run is due to the save glitch?

What Spikestuff suggested is probably your best option. Next year's April 1st would be a good time to take a short vacation from this site and any other websites that you suspect might try to play an April Fool's joke on the users (like Google). And it might be difficult, but try to keep your guard up and not trust everything you read, just for that one day. As you know, it can be hard to tell what's an April Fool's joke and what's not sometimes.

He means the ones featured on TASVideos Pro. No, those movies are not legitimate. There is no rerecording emulator available for 3DS and Wii U, and PCSX2-rr is not ready for TASing yet. And the rest of the "movies" were just attractive links with impossible times (there's no known way to complete SMB in under 4 minutes and SM64 in under 5) and Photoshopped screenshots. TASVideos will continue to remain a free, community website. The entire Pro page and the whole idea was an April Fool's joke.

I like this game. It reminds me of Coin Runners on the SNES battle course in Mario Kart Wii. Aside from that, I was entertained by this run. The character moves fast, there are some close calls with some of the enemies, and it's short enough that I didn't get bored. So my vote is Yes. Also, suggesting this screenshot (frame 1994):

Since the submission text already mentions the Coin Case glitch, that might be redundant.
The publication text can always be changed. If you think noting what glitch was used to break the game spoils the run, someone can just remove that little detail. I agree that naming the box should be the new screenshot. Here are a few good ones (frame 46841, 46945, and 47160):

That would be funny, but unfortunately it doesn't work. If you get a second non-partner NPC to follow you, the first one will despawn, leaving you with only the second one.
