I really like this idea too. I hope it can be implemented.

I'm saying that it doesn't belong in the Vault, since movies in the Vault can only be any% or 100% (fastest time). The only other place the run could be published would be Moons.
Then perhaps that should be fixed. Either expand the meaning of the Vault tier, or create a fourth, distinct tier (which is more like "parallel" to the others, rather than being "below" or "above" anything.) Else the meaning of the Moon tier would get rather diluted, IMO. A kind of dumpster for "everything that doesn't fit anywhere else", which I don't think is the intent of that tier.
I'm all for either option. It seems like the Vault is currently limited by those options. I think the Vault should have the same rules as the Moons tier, except for movies that aren't as entertaining.

I don't disagree with that. It was just your original rationale that caught my eye.
I apologize for not being very clear. I don't have an opinion on where this movie ends up though (I haven't even watched it yet). Thanks for getting this sorted out, Mothrayas. I hope it's possible for the run to be manually moved.

This isn't a case of the author being "convinced". This depends on whether it simply is true or not. If I make a playaround and later claim it's for fastest time, that doesn't suddenly not make it a playaround, nor does that make it eligible for "fastest time" when it actually isn't.
Oh, I see. I mistakenly thought the author's opinion held some gravity in deciding the goals of the movie. I figured it was possible that he originally made it for fastest time but labeled it as a playaround anyway (since he now thinks it was never a playaround).

Wait, what? Since when does the Moon tier mean "everything that doesn't aim for fastest time"?

There seems to be some confusion in this topic, so I'll spell out the options for everyone: 1. Since this is a playaround, it should be moved to the Moons tier since runs that don't aim for fastest time (as the author originally said it didn't) are ineligible for the Vault. 2. But if the author is totally convinced that this run in fact aims for fastest time, we can just keep the run in the Vault (not sure why any author would want his/her movie there though) and simply remove the Playaround tag.

Wow, I'm surprised this game was actually commercially released. This would be bad quality even for a pirate game. Good speed-oriented run though. It was short enough that it didn't ever get boring, yes vote.

Same here. There's a big "DESYNC ERROR" that pops up and the run proceeds to desync.

0058 is my favorite, and is really funny and aesthetically pleasing. 0067 is also good though.

Encode of jlun2's latest WIP: Link to video I can confirm that he is 37-38 frames faster at that point (it's hard to tell exactly whether it's 37 or 38).

It seems that way. On that same page, MobyGames also calls the game a "typical platform game", so it's like they go against the genre they listed.

I have to agree that the camera shakes are annoying and hard to look at. And since the run isn't even optimized (improvements everywhere), I'm going to have to vote No. It would help if the desync issue was fixed too; not sure why the run only syncs for the OP.

I uploaded a quick encode of jlun2's run. So jlun2's run collects that one red cube at frame 1512 (1:24 in the encode), while the OP collects it at at least 1522 (though it is off-screen). It looks more like 1524, but anyway, it's at least 10 frames slower than jlun2's. Then, the tables turn. While jlun2 takes the very long (intended) route over and around to the floating pairs of brown blocks, the OP bounces up there early by walljumping on the same wall multiple times. At the point he bounces on the first floating pair of brown blocks, he is exactly 256 frames ahead of jlun2. Then, by the time they both touch the gray cube at the end, he has gained 3 more frames on jlun2. So while jlun2 may be faster for half his WIP, his movie cannot be verified to be faster than the OP for the second half because of that big missed shortcut. Also, both movies ran fine up to the comparison point (I got a desync later on in OP's movie just like everyone else) on my Windows 7 64-bit computer with only changing Multimedia Timer Mode to Asynchronous.

Thanks to everyone's efforts, nearly all of the TODOs have been cleared from the movie descriptions! Only one remains, and it's a request for an improved encode with a correct rerecord count (and most likely HD) for Pilotwings. If anyone who can encode would be so kind as to take up that task, or can get someone else who can do it, we'd be all done with this assignment! ...well, for now, at least.

I don't think the publication's genre should have been changed to Adventure. Even if all of the gems in a level are collected, nothing is unlocked, so it's not really a "secondary goal". There isn't any exploration, either, as there would be in a Metroid or Zelda game. And unlike those games, there's a time limit that kills you if you run out of time. And really, you just hop from one end of the level to the other, with enemies and pits to avoid. There aren't even any items or health upgrades to collect. This game fits the Action genre way better, and I would like to ask someone with the necessary privileges to please correct this error.

Should the genre be changed from "Action" to "Platform"? This appears to specifically be a platform game. If it should, can someone please change it?

"Unofficial game" needs to be added as a tag to the publication. I like how Color Dreams threw Mario's jump sound into the game. It does ruin the atmosphere in the space levels though.

I'll offer this again: I jumped a lot during waiting periods when I could've just stood still (like in 4-3), and listening to those sections annoys me now too. Does my run stand a better chance of being accepted as a Moon instead if I edit the movie to jump less (or not at all) during waiting periods? I might not be able to do it until tonight though. Hope that's not a problem.
