Post subject: False lag frames bug

A while ago, I was working on a TAS of JezzballDS, and I noticed that making and loading a savestate closer to a single lag frame would create more false lag frames and delay the earliest frame input can be read by the game. I posted about this problem in the DeSmuME emulator development thread, but no one has fixed it in almost 11 months. This problem is also present in 0.9.8, as VanillaCoke and ALAKTORN have also experienced this false lag frame problem. So can I count on this being fixed soon? VanillaCoke and I were going to work on KMA in a few months, and the game is hard enough to TAS without the emulator creating false lag frames.

Yeah, I had false lag frames when loading savestates when I started working on JezzballDS. It's discouraging when you're trying to make a speedrun, and I don't understand why a rerecording emulator would throw false lag frames in like this. I posted the problem in the "DeSmuME emulator development" thread, adelikat asked me one question about it, and then no one did anything to fix it. So I gave up. EDIT: I just made a thread for this emulation bug.

I already uploaded it to youtube in highest resolution. Or what do you mean?
He wants FractalFusion to either tell him how to make an encode or post a video of him setting up the emulator to record and encoding it.

A minor bug: This post looks normal in the thread I posted it in, but the hyperlink does not end on the search page for posts by CoolKirby. This might cause other links in a post to lose their link locations, at least on the search page. The HTML of the search page just moves the </a> at the end of "HxD" to the end of the post. It seems like it should be easy to fix.

Oh, well I just meant it's a much higher framerate than the YouTube encode of the last submission (which I assume was forced down to 30 fps) and I appreciate seeing every frame of the run.

Thank you for providing a 60 fps encode! It was easier to figure out what was happening just from that without the 20% speed encode (which I watched anyway). I still like how fast this run completes the game. It's entertaining because it's short and crazy fast; there's a lot happening in less than 20 seconds. Still a Yes vote.

Good run, nitrogenesis. It's fast and entertaining, and I enjoyed watching you dominate all the bosses, especially the final boss. Yes vote!

Wow, you destroyed this game! Yes vote. I liked the really fast pace this run has, but I would also like to see a half-speed encode to have a clue as to what's going on. Also, way to figure out this confusing emulator.

Great run, MUGG. I like that OoB glitch. It's nice to see an improvement on VBA24-M too. Yes vote, of course.

I always wrap my controller cords around my controllers to save space, so my cords aren't exactly straight. These are approximate measurements from the end of the controller to the start of the plug: NES: 7' 5.5" SNES: 7' 6.75" N64: 6' 2" GameCube: 6' 4" (unofficial third-party controller)

Olympics are over, i suggest we lock this topic?
There's no reason to. Someone might want to post something about the 2012 Olympics later if they start thinking about it again, and this thread would be the perfect place for that. There are lots of threads that haven't had posts in years, especially in game subforums, and they stay open so someone can make a useful post there if they have a good reason.

ok, so i tried combining them, but the part where you select characters does not match up because a character is already selected in the first movie file, and there is no character selected in the second one. This forces me to add a button input which messes it up. any suggestions?
Since the run is done with a higher emphasis on entertainment than speed, I would suggest adding blank frames before continuing with part 2 until it syncs. When it does sync, you can do the same to parts 3 and 4 after removing the character select.

It has to be one movie file to be an acceptable submission. Are you sure you can't combine them now that the TAS is complete? If you want to try combining them, you will need a hex editor (like HxD). Then you will need to let Dolphin record for a while after your first movie ends. Then, in HxD, you would copy and paste-over the input from your other three dtms into the blank frames at the end of the first movie file, and you will have one movie file which hopefully will sync. If you don't want to do it yourself, I would be happy to do it for you.

I'll stick to using Snes9x, since Lsnes is horribly difficult to use.
If you're planning on using snes9x at all, I recommend the latest version, 1.52, which I would assume is the most accurate revision.

I would assume they used the rerecording environment Hourglass.

That kind of run would be a "tool-assisted superplay", which still shortens to TAS.

I personally think that you shouldn't vote on a game you haven't played, especially this one.
I haven't played this game, but I voted Yes. In fact, I vote Yes to many submissions of games I haven't played. Why shouldn't members like me be able to vote Yes and share a positive comment on a run of a game we haven't played before?

This was an interesting run. There is definitely a lot more time spent watching cutscenes than blasting through each level. I haven't played the game before but I still enjoyed watching this and didn't find it repetitive because the solutions varied for each stage. I also liked all the cursor movements when the goo balls weren't moving. Also, it's wii game! Yes vote.

SSBM is just a game that seems to be prone to desyncs no matter how desync-proof other games are in newer Dolphin revisions. Just check your work often for desyncs (from the beginning) so you'll have less of your run to redo when you run into a desync.
