I know of a few more time savers in this game that should save a few more seconds. They still won't knock the time down another minute though, so it's not something I'd get too enthusiastic over.

Traditionally, a new dkc run is worked on if it can mark a change on the final in-game time units. For that to happen, something around 30 seconds worth of improvements is needed.

Well, I sort of meant, if someone hates the fact that it's a hack soooo much that it actually makes it less entertaining for them to watch, then technically it's accurate for that person to vote no as a representation of their personal opinion.
That would be allowing votes based on prejudice. It is no more acceptable than voting no because one hates the author, the system, or the site itself. These are judgements external to the actual run, and defeat the purpose of voting based on set guidelines. The viewer decided beforehand that he hates all hacked game runs, therefore it does not matter how well the author played it, nor does the viewer have to download the movie to form an opinion. If there are a group of individuals who are rigorously against runs of hacked games, then proper discussion topics should be made advocating against their publication. This is much more efficient than having people downvote out of predispositions and spite.

This has already been discussed to some extent in a different topic.

Why did the short version of ALttP get a star? I wasn't aware that anyone even voted for it. Maybe it was a misunderstanding since the people who supported giving a star for snes zelda weren't specific to the version. I push for giving the star to the full version by flagitious.
The downloads shown on the main movie screen can be a somewhat unreliable comparison to how popular the movie is, because when a movie is obsoleted, the count resets. Either that, or only 19 people have ever downloaded a Super Mario 2 run.
That is true, but Umihara Kawase has been up for many months and still hasn't passed the 1000 mark. Comparing this to other starred runs that have received several thousand downloads in much less time, it does say something about its popularity among viewers. A case of a good game with a small audience.

Actually, there is a chess game where neither side made a mistake. I guess a perfect game is in fact a draw: http://www.chessgames.com/perl/chessgame?gid=1263859

I replied over at the SDA forums. I'd paste the link but I just accidentally filled my clipboard with some nonsense and I'm too lazy to go back and get the proper url.

What's a "perfect" chess game, though?
A perfect game where each side plays the best move is assumed to be a draw by some Grandmasters. But since this is a TAS, it would probably entail beating up the snes Chessmaster very badly in just a few moves. Something we can do already. :p

I suggested this game as a joke once. I didn't think someone would actually do it. :|

I wouldn't mind it if he used google text ads. I don't find them annoying, and from my own experience they are quite reliable.

this question was asked a year ago and phil gave the following response:

Hmm that's not the way to do this.Very difficult to explain. All I could say to you is the Boss must be behind you and hit him at the good frame.otherwise it fail. P.S. I found this glitch by pure coincidence playing at full speed ;).I am very lucky I must admit.

I'm going to agree with Sprint. This is my favorite version of the game. Compared to the terrible nes version, there are different bosses, better variety of levels (such level 10), and enough changes to qualify it for a good game for publication. These aren't simply minor changes: on the whole, it does indeed feel like playing an entirely different game.

See, the rules even say that it's ok if you don't watch the whole thing.
I think bobwhoops addressed this well, and if it isn't clear in the rules then maybe the wording should be changed slightly. Besides, the rules state that you should vote based on the site guidelines, and this run violates practically all of them.
I probably wouldn't have fallen for it because it was kind of obvious that it wasn't a desync and the movements he made after stopping were intentional.
It could all have been coincidence. It's easy to say that in hindsight. :P
Btw, how did the first 4 levels of this run compare to the run currently on the site? Were they really faster?
when did I say they were faster? I simply said that this run "ends" 55 frames faster than the current run, which is entirely true. :)

here goes: This run was a trap. The point was to catch any vote abusers who automatically vote yes to any small improvement. As you can probably tell, bisqwit, foda and a few others were in on it too. Taking the first letter of every sentence in the first paragraph of the submission text pretty much spells it out: Fake. The run is also named as version zero. As for game choice, this was difficult. Something too popular like might get too many complaints to work, and something too obscure might not even get enough views to begin with. As for kung fu, my reasoning was that the game is repetitive and that a 55 frame improvement might not even be worth watching for some, so it might tempt them to click yes. This would actually be the first frame improvement of this game, as all the rest have been improvements through time units. Additionally, I wanted to choose a short game so that those who actually spend time analyzing the run won't waste too much of their time. I personally think that the smb2 thread has made everyone a little more careful, so maybe it was a timing issue. There are three yes votes; one is mine, I believe the second is Foda, and I'm not sure about the third. The fact that nobody abused the voting here after 300+ views is good news, at least to me. If nothing else this will serve as a deterrent.

It had over 300 views, which is more than most. And since nobody did it, I'd say that says something good about the users here. In this sense, I'd say it was successful.

it would take too long to take damage to pay off in the end. Especially in level one, where enemies slowly drain your health. In the later levels taking damage is used to cancel Thomas' attack/pause animation so that he can attack faster.

using a system like that would very much reduce secrecy, backstabbing, and ugly competition that has been brought to attention. There would still be competition, but it will be against ourselves, which is how it all started. I will support such a system.

I personally would say to let the votes decide it, just like any other submission here.
the voting system was designed to assist the judges in making a decision. It came into existance shortly after the site gained its peek in populariy because the many submissions created a very large work load for the judges. It is equally useful as a lazy tool for fastfood decision making. People abusing the voting system just made it harder to be lazy, so we banned the lurkers. Out of principle, the votes alone will never decide whether a run will get published. I'd quote bisqwit here, but it'll take me forever to find where he stated this, and that too gets in the way of me being lazy.

wobbling is the phil/genisto trademark. I actually liked it in SCV4 because it made the character look like a hologram.
