I'm reading about "cat skinning" and stuff... but what do you mean by such a thing?

Why don't I encode? Well, yeah sure, everyone makes the occasional encode for YT or whatever, but why I don't encode is because it's so complicated. If encoding consisted of "download program x and drag and drop a video onto it with set parameters y, ten hours later you have a good quality encode", then I'd do it. The tools to encode are pretty complicated, and I just can't be fucked learning when someone else can (and will!) make a high quality encode for me when it's necessary. As for YT and everyday use, I just make a base encode with a ridiculously high bitrate, and proceed to upload, it's the simplest thing ever.
You're right, it is complicated. I took a couple hours from my life to learn to encode, and I had support from other community and staff members (see my homepage for special thanks).

I like how the main player looks like an untouchable god! But otherwise, it's kind of boring to watch after some seconds, and I blame the game itself. Meh vote.

For me, it's that kind of "bad surprise", after I upload one of my encodes to a streaming site such as YouTube. The sound may get off sync BECAUSE of YouTube without you know until someone tells you.

YES voted and HD Encoding
Can you please read the topic before you get on encoding? This is getting annoying for us. An HD encode is already done in my side. It'll be uploaded later. After that special SD encode is done and uploaded to Dailymotion. By the way, what's so special about this encode? It will look like this. Since the upper screen is where the biggest part of the action is happening, I've made a point-resize from it. The HD encode also looks like this. Don't worry, the downloadable MP4 doesn't have that screen zoom. Expect this encode to be live later tonight, and the rest during this week.

I'll do it in SD and HD (without HQx since I'm done with it). EDIT: And also a 720p 1-part version for Dailymotion. Damn! It's taking forever before YouTube answers to my partnership request. EDIT: Forget that last one, k? Instead, you'll get an improved SD encodes with a setup like the upcoming HD encode. You'll see what I mean when it will be uploaded.

This poll is for everybody. Ok I know most of you are against HQx, but I think I found a new filter that may replace it. ScaleX filters. It's another of these filters, but this time, it looks closer to the original! Want to compare? Here are pictures of the same frame. All of these are 8x bigger than the original : Point HQx ScaleX So, what do you think of that? Should I still stick to the point-resized encodes I used to do?

I'm the first one to vote Meh. I'm not into Pinball TASes, unless someone does something really, but REALLY impressive. But it's still a good work!

Huh... Flygon, I see NitroGenesis chose your point-resized encode for the YouTube stream, but have you seen my SD encode?

Thank you all for your answers! According to the votes my poll received until the moment I've posted this, I'm starting to think it's a big waste of time. I'm thinking of giving up HQx and doing simple point-resized encodes. Also, there was a guy on YouTube who showed his dislike to the HQx filter in the comments of one of my videos. I'm telling you that to show you I'm not only looking at this community.

Hqx I think is best for me. What is the difference? For the screen resolution that is HD, it is easier to see images in HQX format than SD. It is also easier to see small details HQX than in SD. I vote YES to save the HQX! -------------------------- sorry for my english, i'm french.

This is a poll for everybody. I'm not sure if I will continue to encode in HQx, since there's that new rule. Maybe I'll upload my HQx encodes to Dailymotion instead of YouTube, but I'm not sure about that. I know there are people who prefer an unfiltered encode. So, I may stop encoding in HQx. I'll think about it. Your answer in the poll will help me take my decision. EDIT: Just in case, I put the comparison I've made in this topic here. Without HQx, it looks like these screenshots : 1 2 With HQx, it looks like these screenshots : 1 2

I don't think that that should be up to the author. We should be consistent and link to the same type of encode in all the publications (of TASes where both types are available) after reaching a consensus about it. As for my opinion on the matter, I prefer point-resized encodes because they look more faithful to the original.

Where there are subtle differences in encodes which do not otherwise affect visual quality (such as HQx vs. point encoding), if the author has a preference as to which encode should be used, that preference should be respected.
That's why I'm asking him this question. Of course, it wasn't absolutely necessary, but I like to leave him the choice.

HQx encode incoming. But criticaluser, I have a question for you. Since now we can include a single YouTube stream in a publication, you'll have to choose one YouTube stream. Both are in high definition. Do you want Flygon's point-resized encode? It looks like these screenshots : 1 2 Or, do you want my HQx filtered encode? It looks like these screenshots : 1 2
