What a coincidence! I just finished playing through Wario Land after having forgotten it for over a decade. It was one of my favourite games and I discovered oodles of glitches on it, which I submitted to David Wonn's site. One such glitch is triggering the end cutscene from level 39. If the definition of completing a game is accessing the end cutscene, then you could feasibly have used that in this TAS to save more time. Still, there are a few other glitches here I would never have found on my own, such as the level skip (impossible on a real Gameboy) and the train death glitch. Nicely done, Greenalink. BTW, I tried to reproduce that glitch you used to glitch through level 35. I think I took a wrong turn somewhere, because this is where I ended up:

Few runs can get me to laugh like this one. When you broke the background and Kabal spammed projectiles against a spinning mess, I knew the game had gone to shit. Brill!

Superb glitch in the first level! I doff my hat to you, squire. BTW, I've tried reproducing this glitch using the oil drum instead of a barrel. Sometimes the cave opens when I release Y, sometimes nothing happens. I haven't been able to find a consistent pattern no matter how I scoll the screen. Does anyone know a surefire way to get this glitch to work?

Gah! I spoke too soon about my new route. Exchord92 just posted a video on how to copy the golden banana count of a completed file to a new file. That got me thinking about my premise. I previously said that the intro story glitch loads a new file and copies the keys, characters and blueprints of a completed file. What if I got it backwards? What if the glitch loads a completed file and copies the golden banana count of a new file? That would be more consistent with Exchord92's results. The bonus with Exchord92's method is that it keeps the pause function and all of Lanky's bananas. That means that a total of 280 golden bananas IS possible! It also means that Kirkq is correct. My route doesn't actually start from a new file, it just modifies the golden banana count of a completed file. *sigh*

Happens to me all the time. It's an annoying and unavoidable emulation glitch.

Aren't there runs on this site that begin from a save state?

I think you're out of your mind. Aero Gauge is widely derided as one of the worst games on the N64. The amount of pop-up is beyond belief. The track doesn't exist beyond your nose!

Hey, I've been experimenting with this game recently and I just discovered a new fastest route to complete the game with zero bananas and zero percent! For the purposes of a TAS, it requires loading from a save state, but the run itself is from start to finish. Anyway here's how: - You need a game in which two save slots are complete, but the third one is new. To make things easier, load this new file and save after Squawk has spoken to you outside Donkey's hut. - Perform the intro cutscene glitch. When you arrive back at the Mystery menu with no music, load the new file and save and quit immediately. - You'll notice that the DK Ilses theme is playing during the Game Over cutscene. Keep pressing start until you arrive back at the main menu, which will feature the DK Rap. - Wait a while, and eventually the intro cutscene will play again. If for some reason the cutscene hasn't started by the time it reaches Lanky's verse, try selecting the Options. - When you regain control of Donkey, step outside the hut. If a cutscene doesn't start playing, you're golden. You should notice that you still have zero bananas, but all the characters are unlocked and K. Rool's ship is available! What's happened here is that the game has combined the data from the new file and one of the other two files. It will keep the golden banana count of the new file, but it will copy the characters, keys and blueprints of one of the other files. You'll also notice that you're invincible and the pause menu is disabled, and any golden bananas that were not obtained in the copied file will still be available to collect in the game. Now all you need to beat the game is to get the abilities required to defeat K. Rool. For some reason, Donkey and Diddy already possess the necessary skills, but you still need to buy what's required for Lanky, Tiny and Chunky. With this method, it's possible to beat the game with zero bananas AND zero percent! Now here's the catch: the game won't save this combined file after you complete the game. It will be as if it never happened. The only way to restore the pause function and save normally is if the game copies data from a save file in which all the blueprints have already been collected. Playing one of Snide's minigames allows you to pause again. But beware! If you save the game, it will not save over the new file, it will save over the file the game copied data from. Here's an interesting variation: If you play a 101% file and use the intro cutscene glitch to copy data from a blank file, you'll only have 161 golden bananas. Why? Because the blank file doesn't have any blueprints, which totals 40 golden bananas. However, since none of the golden bananas were collected in the blank file, you can still obtain them in the game. As long as you collect all the blueprints and play one of Snide's minigames to make the pause function available, you can save your progress and collect far more than 201 bananas. Just remember that no Kong should have more than seven golden bananas in any particular level, otherwise the counter will roll back to zero after you save. This gives you a total limit of 280 golden bananas in a save file. I still haven't been able to determine WHICH save file the game copies data from. It appears to be completely random. But here's the thing: instead of waiting for the intro cutscene to interrupt the main menu, highlight the file you want to copy data from, but only go so far as to display the data for that file (i.e. percent and bananas). Don't actually play the file. Now press B twice to go back to the main menu and wait for the intro cutscene to start playing. After it's finished. The save file the game copied data from is guaranteed to be the one you highlighted, but it will also copy all abilities and golden bananas, thus making it worthless for a 0GB/percent run. Still, I just thought I'd point this out. Anyway, it took me a while to figure this all out and I hope you appreciate it. As far as I know, this method is now the fastest way to complete the game. :) EDIT: I've just discovered that the reason the game substracts 40 bananas from a 101% game is not because the blueprints are missing, but because all the bananas Lanky obtained are missing - even the ones he got from blueprints! I have no idea why only Lanky's bananas are missing, but this makes it impossible to reach a total of 280 bananas because Lanky can't get more than 5 bananas per level. The new limit is 264 bananas in a save file.

Nicely done, but not as entertaining as the similar Mega Man & Bass. To me, Mega Man runs are best served with heavy glitching.

Incredible! Ever since I learned of the Reverse Bottle Adventure, I've been waiting for this TAS to replace the outdated one by GuanoBowl. It was an entertaining watch, and I didn't even realize it was possible to save time by getting Ruto's bottle instead of Anju's bottle. Now all I need is MrGrunz's TAS of Majora's Mask and I can die a happy mask salesman. :)

Excellent stuff! Clever use of the Balloon Adapter and Bright Stopper make this a highly entertaining run.

Nope, that didn't fix the problem. The weird thing is that there is video with Jabo's Direct3D6 1.5.2, but the framerate is between 8 and 30 fps. Any advice? Alternatively, if someone can provide me with a PJ64 save state or save file right after having obtained the Zora's Sapphire, I'll be happy with that. Ta.

I'm pretty much a novice when it comes to Mupen64 TAS playback and I'm already in hot water. I tried running the Ocarina of Time TAS and I used Jabo's Direct3D8 1.6 graphics plugin. But when I load the rom, the screen stays black. The audio works fine, but I can't see anything. What settings do I need? Also, I can't find N-Rage`s Direct-Input8 1.60 anywhere. Does anyone have a working link, or could you please re-upload it? Thanks for your help.

As far as Wood Man's stage is concerned, I don't think I've ever seen such blatant disregard for the layout of a level. This gets a Yes vote from me for bare-faced cheek. :p

Yeah, I saw that one already. I'm not really a fan of one-character combo videos because they tend to be repetitive. But this really is a quality exhibition. I'm surprised how many people dislike Shidousha no Hyouden. I only picked that because it's exclusively XVSF and it's the best in its category. There are better combo videos for other games. If that doesn't take your fancy, try Meikyousisui Vol. 10 for some ingenious 2-on-1 action. If you don't like that, YOU ARE DEAD ON THE INSIDE!!

Where did you get that idea from?

I know the movie won't get taken down because of this, but voting is still useful for guaging public opinion in any circumstance.

I made it 3 and half minutes in before quitting... You know, the bit where it cuts to a cartoon ocean. For a video 'dedicated' to combos it sure enjoys its anime and overly long introduction scenes.
In that case, you probably shouldn't watch the sequel to this video. :p Some editors tend to overdo on effects and sound bytes, but I find this video adds to the presentation without going overboard. In any case, you can find more great combo videos at www.combovideos.com The MVC2 ones by Team Meikyousisui are probably the most reputable.

God, I found this TAS exceptionally boring. It pales horribly against dedicated combo videos you can find on websites aimed at them. If you want to see XVSF at its fullest, try wathing the Shidousha No Hyouden video below. There's no comparison. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tHQ_eXFI7rM This TAS gets a big NO from me.

Meh, not as impressive as SDR's submission. The glitch fatalities don't really add much because most of them just involve the opponent falling over. There aren't really any messed up graphics. Voting NO.

This is a movie I've been looking forwards to for the better part of a year, ever since I heard about the Mecha Dragon skip glitch. Great work, Shinryuu and co! This is a masterpiece of speedrunning.
