Anyway tricks and glitches are forbidden on the site except special ones, where you only make the trick at last lap (or for flap) when you can cross the line in the air (without involving lakitu or a fall) so that almost the entire run stays clean. But those special tricks only figure in the shortcut tricks fields and dont count for the rankings. More details in the rules and techniques pages of the site.
Maybe I'm stupid, but I can't find anywhere in the FAQs a page that says tricks and glitches are forbidden. Could you give me a link to that specific page where it says glitches are forbidden?

[Somewhat off topic] Can this thread please be renamed to "Super Mario Kart" instead of "I have an idea for a mario kart TAS"? [/Somewhat off topic] Now, to be more "on topic", I watched the "full WIP" yesterday and all I have to say is this: Wow. Can't wait for the new strategy to be used, and can't wait for the next WIPs! This is going to be a great TAS, that's for sure. Keep up the great work!

What I didn't turbo through was fairly interesting, though I wonder if Solvaring would have been faster with just constant melee and dodge tactics. Regardless, keep at it!
Aren't you a little too close to Solvaring to dodge his attacks after you melee him?

The WIP looked good, although I could see at some places that you hug walls and that slows you down a little bit (like one set of stairs in the starting castle, and then some walls elsewhere). It's clearly visible at full speed. Other than that, it was good. The fight was still a little boring, but hey you can't do much about it. It's the first fight, and I think it's intended to be boring. :) Good job, continue the great work!

If someone can figure out HOW I will do it.
Sounds like a job for Nitrodon! (Or some other ROM hacking and luck manipulation guru) By the way ... I'm eager to see this run finished! That's one game that I liked a lot when I was younger. I used to rent it all the time, and then scream as my memory pack was not compatible with the game or something (the game crashed because of the memory pack, which was non-standard). I just re-watched the SDA run of the game, and it looks very good. Of course, I wouldn't suggest copying that run for the TAS, but it can be a pretty good "guide" or something. Good luck with the run!

Is it just me, or are the parts in-between courses unoptimized? I think the text could scroll faster if "A" was held (or another button ... it's been too long since I last played).

I would definately love to see more of this.
Actually, a run was submitted about a month ago and was cancelled due to the entertainment factor being too low and the possibility of improvement. Here's a link to the submission: http://tasvideos.org/1500S.html Hope it satisfies your need for a complete Virtual Bart run.

So I guess this movie will be obsoleting the any% even though they have different goals, huh?
No it won't obsolete it. The 100% will be longer than the any% because of the remaining red jewels in Dao and the secret dungeon. If it wasn't for those two things, though, it would obsolete it.

Desynchs for me at the enter name screen, with both Jabo's and Rice's plugin. So I hope you get your desynch problems out of the way, cuz I'll keep trying with mine.
That's probably because of the input plugin. I had the same desync and when I played it using TAS input plugin, it worked fine (up until that shop I mentioned)

Nitrodon just informed me that I might be able to gain back those 4 seconds in the re-match against the bosses, mainly against Sandworm. That would mean that the 100% would be equal to the any% for the whole game (if we don't count the secret dungeon) It's not as simple as that though ... since I haven't picked up the jewels in Dao yet (it's going to be faster to pick them when I get back to Dao from the Tower of Babel). The snake game and the secret dungeon will make the 100% longer than the any%. But still... it's cool that if there wasn't any secret dungeon and no snake game, the 100% would be just as long as the any%. If I had to guess how long the 100% is going to be, I'd say between 2:10 and 2:13. I think that's going to be pretty accurate. It would make the 100% from 4 to 7 minutes longer than the any%.

As AKA, Raiscan and myself discovered (and have mentioned before), using Rice 6.1.1 video plugin makes it synch up perfectly, despite it not being the same plugin as Mukki's. Try using that.
Tried. Same result. Same desync. Same place. I even tried to watch it from the beginning to make sure, still the same problem. I'll sit out of watching WIPs then ... unless a kind soul somewhere wants to encode WIPs to AVI, but I doubt that.

* UPDATE * Once again, no smv for you guys, but I wanted to keep you informed on the progress. Right now, the Pyramid is done and the mummy Queen is dead. The 100% is now 244 frames (4 seconds and 4 frames) SLOWER than the any%. That had to be expected because of the red jewels in the Pyramid. A lot of them are far from the normal path and require backtracking and stuff. Still... it's a pretty amazing feat to be only 4 seconds begind the any% when I'm so near the end of the game. Problem is, the 100% won't ever be faster than the any% again because of the secret dungeon. Anyway ... so what's left? Tower of Babel, Secret Dungeon, Comet. That's it. It's a lot of boss fights though, but these ones tend to be easy to TAS. I expect to be done with the TAS in about a week. After that, I'll take some time to write extensive commentaries (much like what I did for the any%), and THEN I'll submit this baby.

I get a desync when he tries to enter the shop after hitting the owl statue... What happens instead of entering the shop: rolls in direction of the shop door, doesn't enter, and then do random things outside the shop. I'm using all the same plugins, and everything worked fine from the beginning up to that point. Looks like I'm going to have to refrain from watching WIPs for this N64 Zelda game too... Maybe my computer just doesn't like Zelda.

This is a pretty selfish comment, but the currently published Lufia II run uses the (U) rom which has a horrible horrible horrible (times 1000) graphic bug somewhere in the game, which the (E) version doesn't have. With the rules stated above, I would NOT have a choice to use the damned ugly (U) rom? Unless that rule of "voting" to accept the version change is used. That could be good...

Since it must be pretty radically improvable, do you intend to revisit any% sometime?
To be honest, I have no idea ... I guess I could though, since it's REALLY improvable and I have really strong proof about it being so badly done. I don't know ... maybe I will improve it someday. Note that I would collect the herbs necessary for the raft scene though, because that's a huge time saver. We'll see...

You seem to be the only other person to care about it though ... The other person is Nitrodon, who helps me with luck manipulation and many other things.

Progress update (no smv, though) I'm now strating the Pyramid, and the 100% is now 3100 frames (51 seconds and 40 frames) FASTER than the any% run currently published. Repeat. The 100% run is 3100 frames (51 seconds and 40 frames) FASTER than the any% run at the start of the pyramid. Even though it's currently faster than the any% by more than 50 seconds, it will fall behind when I go to the secret dungeon. At least ... I'm expecting it to fall behind when I go to the secret dungeon. I've been surprised more than once while making this run. Anyway ... I'm kind of surprised by how many people (1) responded to my last WIP. I'll just assume that the other people just had no comments because it R0XX0RZ!!! ... it's better to think like that than to think that nobody cares about my run ... heh

it seems like there's quite alot of interest in doing an EB commentary, so can't we all just chip in? you know, one word at a time, then seamlessly edited together to one big ol' mp3. \o/

Just finished listening to it all. Great job! I liked it. I laughed at a few places, I even learned a few things myself (mostly about the signs and what some characters say, because I never read that). I think your goal of "keeping other people company while they watch the video" was achieved. At least, that's how I felt while listening to it. Listening to this made me think of something ... Maybe it would be cool if authors of TASes did a commentary on their own TAS. It probably would be good for teams (like Nitrodon and I), but I think it would be a good thing to do. Unfortunately, I never even met the guy. We live too far from eachother to even consider doing an audio commentary on our run(s), but still... It's a good idea that I'll try to make happen someday. Overall, audio commentaries are a good thing, and I'd like to see/hear more of those for other TASes too. So far, there are only 2 audio commentaries (that I'm aware of, at least). One is OoT and now there's EB. Thanks for taking the time to record this audio commentary on our run, NapstrPSX. We really appreciate it and feel honored that someone would want to pay tribute to our work like that.

Downloading now ... it seems to download at about 50 KB/sec (not bad at all) I'll listen to it as soon as it's done downloading. Can't wait!!

Only question is which game I start out with first. Earthbound is going to be one of them, regardless of whether or not someone else provides commentary for it — in this case, that would be NapstrPSX. So even though I may end up saying "Screw you all >8U" and doing otherwise, do you all think I should start off with an Earthbound commentary, or some other game I have on my list?
I really don't think that one TAS should have more than one commentary.

@ NapstrPSX: I emailed you back, answering all the questions you asked me, using my gmail account. I kinda liked to be "interviewed" that way :)

I am honored to see someone wanting to comment on one of my runs! (don't worry, I haven't forgotten about you, Nitrodon) You have my full support on this commentary thing. In fact, I can't wait to hear what someone else has to say about it. By the way, I just sent you an email at the address you gave in your first post with all my contact information, in case you want to have a little chat, ask me questions about the run or anything else really. Can't wait to hear the final result :) EDIT: It was actually the first time I heard someone say my nickname in English. You can call me Hal. Not that I didn't like hearing my nickname... but I prefer Hal. You could like .. say it completely once in the beginning and mention that you're going to call me Hal for the rest or something .. :)

He probably won't be able to. In that video, the guy used T.T. and had 19 bananas. That's probably why he was able to get as good a jump as he got. There's no way he can do that kind of jump with that small amount of bananas he had (8, I think?)

All Jewels, that technically 100%, or what? Just asking. Don't know a lot about this game, though I owned it once...I should play this again...
I wouldn't say 100%, because then some people would argue that 100% would have to be "All items, all enemies killed, all whatever else they can say"... Instead, I decided to say "All jewels" run. But yeah, for Illusion of Gaia, all jewels kind of means 100%, since they're the only items that are "tracked by the game" and that changes the outcome of the game (1 more dungeon).
