Is there / will there be a signed version of memory.readword and/or memory.readbyte? Right now, there seems to be only an unsigned version of each. That would be pretty useful in some scripts. (For example, the speed address in Uniracers, amongst others)

You're in for a treat! I've TASed the game a little in the past, and came up with a 23.56 time for the first track. You can watch the progress that was made by downloading some of the stuff on my website: http://www.obellemare.com/speedruns/#5 However, I have to warn you (and other people) to not anticipate this TAS too much ... there's a huge amount of work required for this TAS to see the light of day. I haven't worked on it for a long while now ... but I'm slowly getting into it again. I'm not going to give any dates for progress reports though.

Random (lame) comment: Could we have the offset needed to make Snes9x Memory Watcher work with these new Snes9x's? It would make life just a little tiny bit easier for those of us who use it :)

This is the exact same question as "Why do you skid through corners instead of simply driving normally?". It's because it's faster to skid.

Oh. My. God. This run is going to be so AWESOME! I mean ... come on! You lapped 3 characters TWICE in Hot Top Volcano! How awesome is that?? :) If it wasn't for the repetitiveness of the levels (repeated 3 times), I'd say this run would deserve a star. Unless I missed something in the discussion and the goal is only to win the first Wizpig race? If so, then it will get a star. But I'd also love to see the currently published run to get destroyed by an incredibly good one like this :)

They weren't talking about getting through the locked door, they were talking about getting in Bowser's stage faster than the current method. (Correct me if I'm wrong, people)

Anyways, I have a question regarding that... If you were to get to the end of the level and grab the star a little late to get say 6.40"... then grabbed it exactly one frame sooner, do you still get 6.40" or 6.38"? Do you have to shave those 2 frames to get the 0.02" difference? Or does the game simply just ignore those times?
In this game, 3 frames = 0.05 seconds. That means that for every 3 frames, 2 of them are 0.02s and the other one is 0.01s.

What about battletoads bike? That must win if you're double tap moving to the right during the end of the level.
Isn't that an autoscroller stage? That makes it largely irrelevant in this case.

As for Snes, probably some racing game. Let say Top Gear 3000.
Let's rather say F-Zero, with its 1000 km/h cars.
Speaking of F-Zero, wouldn't it be possible to measure the car speeds in pixels/frame? Sure, the car stays at the same place, but the level around it moves, and that is measurable. Same goes for all other racing games of the same type.

This is a little late but some of the stuff against the last boss can be sped up dramatically... changing directions rapidly allows Shadow to fire the phoenixes very fast. IIRC the moon can be hit twice when it opens its mouth if you fire fast enough and the head can be hit much faster as well. Could probably be killed in one cycle on a TAS. By the way, my first post here, hi all! O. o
No, it can't. Until I see proof of such claims, I will stick to my original answer which is No, it can't. You can't hit the moon twice in a row, and you can't hit Dark Gaia faster than what I already did.

HAH! That one was hilarious! (Probably because I didn't expect it at all). Nice work overall. I agree with JXQ saying that the ocarina and guitar blend together much better than I would've thought. Now, giddy up cowboy and play some Zelda tunes :D

Whenever I have a problem like this, what I do is this: 1) Open notepad 2) File --> Save as... 3) Select "All types" in the types list 4) Select the "locked" AVI file 5) Click "Save", it will ask if you want to overwrite or not, say Yes 6) Delete the file using normal means. For some reason, this method never failed. It simply overwrites the .avi with a 0 byte text file. Then, explorer.exe stops locking it for some reason, and then you can delete it.

Hey wait ... Bisqwit, did you fix this? :) It shows "mumblemumblemumblemumble (too small text to read)" everywhere people used a really small text! :) Testing...

instructions on hacking uniracers SRAM
You know, this is all nice and interesting, but smv files contain the SRAM data they start from. Or if they don't start from reset, they contain the savestate data they start from. No need to mess around distributing SRM or ST? files, or giving instructions on how to create ones.
I know that. I just wanted to tell the world + dog the way I used to create the hacked SRAM, so that they could "verify" the validity of the SMV I produce. Hacked SRAMs are a huge debate here on TASvideos (if I understand correctly). Providing instructions on how to create it allows verifiers to .. erm .. verify that the only thing hacked in this game was the medals, and nothing else.

W00t! Thanks! If we ever meet in real life, I'll buy you a beer. I guess I remove my vote for getting rid of the size tag. My new opinion is: Use the minimal font size in Firefox if you think some text is too small.

How about limiting its use to sizes 9 and up? That would be a technical solution to a social misconduct :)

I am suggesting here to get rid of the size tag or limit it's use to certain numbers only. There are a few cases of people using it to hide something that changes the meaning of their post completely, and then they have to post again to justify the meaning of their post because most (if not all) people didn't see this hidden text. Most recent example I can think of: http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=144522#144522 This is only a suggestion, an opinion. I don't care if it's going to change or not, but I think it'd be best if the size tage was limited to numbers higher than or equal to 9 (the current "small") value. What do you guys think? (Please don't stab me, I'm only expressing an opinion here) And by the way, this text is in size 9 and this text is in size 7 (tiny)

Does this look any better than the previous run even though it is a meagre 3.8 seconds better? That's not to say I will redo the run I was merely bored one day.
Hell yeah it looks better! Now, it doesn't feel unoptimized anymore. My only concern is the end of the 2nd lap, at the "bump". You get a smaller bump but you get more bananas. IIRC, after 10 bananas, there is no more speed gain. Therefore, it might have been a better choice to get a bigger bump (thus keeping your speed for a longer time) instead. Other than that, this new video is great! And 3.8 seconds faster for 3 minutes is not bad. Not bad at all.

Yay! I was thanked! :) How can I vote no? The guy bribed me! :) In all seriousness, I vote yes. This run is great. Good job! (No, he did not bribe me)

IRC has a thing called "DCC" which allows file transfers from one person to another. That's probably how it will work.

Holy shit! That game got DESTROYED! :) Wow. Just, wow. I've played this game a lot as a kid, and I really LOVED to see it beaten so fast and easily! Definitively a yes vote. Note for other people to consider: This is a 3 minutes and 30 seconds improvement on the currently published run. The previous run was 10 minutes and 9 seconds long. Do the math, this run is about 2 thirds of the previous one. That a HELL of an improvement!

Care explaining why you don't just unpack them using WinRAR, then opening the ROM file?
That's probably what he already does, but I'm guessing he would like to not have to do that. The reason for that would be to have all the different versions of the game stored in a more compact way. 7z is a format which is great to compress similar files. For example, all the different versions of Mischief Makers compressed into one 7z file take 5.80 megabytes, whereas all the versions NOT compressed at all take 72 megabytes. That sounds like a good reason to want this feature.
