I wouldn't rule out anything right now ... the bug is too new to say anything definitive about it. I'd look into the mechanics of this a little more first.

In case anyone cares, another bug was found. Nitrodon pointed it out, but a certain "The Kirby" originally reported it on the Starmen.net forums. Here's a link to a video demonstration of it (that I recorded): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JoPT5a4jkeQ It's a bug that occurs when you die and win at the same time. How can that be done? By fighting an enemy that has a "terminal attack". For example, the territorial oak bursts into flames when it dies, damaging everyone in the group. Now, if that territorial oak is the last enemy to die, you win the fight once it's done bursting into flames. However, if all your characters die from that bursting into flames, you die. You then get both a death and a win at the same time. The result is a messed up game over screen. Go see for yourself, the video explains it better than anything I can write right now.

I recently picked up myself a rather good laptop, but with one serious drawback. Vista. Long story short, I have all my usuals up and running on Vista with no issues save Mupen, which invariably crashes my computer everytime it plays a game for more than 30 seconds. Any other Vista users with Mupen around, with any advice around this problem? cause, being able to TAS while I'm at my boring ass job would be rather nice.
I too have a rather good laptop with Vista on it. However, I didn't experience the same thing with Mupen. Everything works fine here. I know it's kind of pointless to reply to say I don't have the problem, but it's just to point out that it's not Vista vs. Mupen that is the problem. At least, not in my case.

You are basically watching v19 movies with v20. It's normal that it desyncs. http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2050 Get the one labeled "Old:", which is v19. It should all work now.

Here's another one ... http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=42071 It's not a law yet, but if it is, then it's really stupid. Basically, the German goverment could be allowed to send trojan horses through email to suspected terrorists. ... if they're terrorists, won't they have some sort of hyper-secured computer or something? Like ... at least 1 antivirus, at least 1 firewall ... How in the world can they really expect terrorists to click and open a file in an email coming from an unknown sender...?

I say, PROGRESS! Thanks to Nitrodon, I now have decided to start from SRAM. That SRAM is a hacked one, which basically tells the game "Hey, every unicycle has a silver medal on every single set of tracks". That means I can now start the TAS for real. Progress might not be fast (in fact, it may be really slow), since I'm now in University (aka College in the USA, something else in other countries). Still, I'm gonna have some spare time, which I'm sometimes going to use to TAS. Don't expect too much though. Here's some technical info on how to create that hacked SRAM yourself: 1) Open Snes9x, load the Uniracers game, start recording a movie (make sure you select to start from reset and clear SRAM). 2) Continue recording, and go in the unicycle selection screen (Don't know if that's necessary, but I know that this works). 3) Stop recording, delete that completely useless smv, close snes9x (or unload the ROM). 4) Using a hex-editor, open the .srm file of the game and set 69c-71b to 02 (all silvers) and 10d3-10e2 to 02 (first 8 tracks unlocked) 5) Save the modifications, open snes9x, load the ROM, and voilà! All unicycles now have access to the Gold races of all the tracks! Here's a more detailed description of those 2 intervals (69c-71b and 10d3-10e2): Section 1: Tour medals (00=none, 01=bronze, 02=silver, 03=gold) 69c-6ab: Crawler medals 6ac-6bb: Jumper medals 6bc-6cb: Shuffler medals 6cc-6db: Bounder medals 6dc-6eb: Walker medals 6ec-6fb: Runner medals 6fc-70b: Hopper medals 70c-71b: Sprinter medals 71c-72b: Hunter medals (starts with all silver in a clean SRAM) Each uni gets one byte in each of those lists, which is why each list is 16 bytes long (16 unis) Section 2: Tours unlocked (00=4, 01=6, 02=8, 03=all) 10d3-10e2: Tours unlocked for each uni So yeah, I'm gonna be using that SRAM to make the TAS. I'm basically going to create a movie, select "Start from reset", but uncheck "Clear SRAM". The movie will start by renaming the Uni I'm going to use to "Hal" (because there's not enough room for "Halamantariel"), and then it will proceed to pwnage. In the meantime, you can create that hacked SRAM yourself and try beating Goldwin in realtime. Loads of fun guaranteed. EDIT: For the lazy, I've put the hacked SRAM (as well as the clean one) on my website. Go here: http://www.obellemare.com/speedruns/ scroll down and download the file named "Uniracers (U) [!] (Hacked).srm", then replace your uniracers .srm file with this one.

It's the first time I don't fall asleep watching a Super Metroid run. Yes vote for that. (Before I get stabbed for saying this, note that I've never played this game, and I personally think it's fairly boring to watch if you've never played it. Therefore, I always felt sleepy when watching any run of this game, TAS or not. This time however, for some reason, I didn't.) Please don't stab me.

Here's an interesting review of the game "Fable", also known as "Fable: The Lost Chapters" on the PC (some added quests and stuff). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jYQLR7dE5k4

Why oh why did you make a new thread for that? Couldn't you ask this question in the existing ALttP thread?? ... Moderator! Move that post! (Ref. to Extreme Makeover Home Edition) EDIT: Ok, this might not be about ALttP, but my post is still valid ... this has to be moved to the already existing thread of the correct game.

I think I remember someone posting this in here ... or maybe it was on IRC and I clicked on the link ... whatever ... I stumbled upon a remix of that song, and I think the remix is quite cool (if you like trance/techno music). Here it is: http://youtube.com/watch?v=vGgsrOa7qsA

I voted no. To me, it's very obvious that this is NOT optimal. There were a lot of places that I went "What the hell? .. why did he do it like this?" or similar reactions. For the first time in my life, I found myself saying "God, I wish the guy used more backwalking". It just felt unoptimal... I can't say yes to that. On an unrelated note, this topic has become home of a few new "Most Popular Excuses", like these 2: - "When a better movie comes along, great, but in the mean time I think this (unoptimized movie) should obsolete the current run" - "We published a test-run of this game before, why not do it again?" Those would be a great addition to that page.

The run was great! My only complaint is the constant "Uh oh!" sound in the elite four battles. I ended up muting the sound, else I would have gone mad. Other than that, great run.

But you're completely right, it was a bad title. But I didn't know how to summarize it, so it became a bad title. I sat with it for several minutes, but I'm not feeling well today (I have a baaad cold), so my head doesn't work allright :P
How about "Support for 7z files in Mupen", or "Reading directly from 7z files", or anything else similar? Or even simply "7z support". Because it's already in the Mupen64 thread, we all know that it's a question about Mupen and 7z support. Simple and effective.

Nitrodon and I have crashed Earthbound while making the TAS. I've put up some SMVs demonstrating the crashes on my webpage. They're named "Z-Bug1.smv" and "Z-Bug2.smv". You can get them both here: http://www.obellemare.com/speedruns/ The game simply freezes. You can't do anything anymore. It's basically a buffer overflow somewhere in the game's memory (Too many sprites loaded at the same time without cleaning the memory of the obsolete spirtes (those not on screen anymore)). The first video is a bit short... but I'm too lazy to go back and re-record it to be longer. Basically, we teleported through the lost underworld and this is what happened at one point. The second video happened at the end of the game. Paula prays to get help from people. This scene was the runaway five praying, but it just never loads. The game doesn't have enough memory available to load all sprites, so it gets stuck in a loop. I know, it's not a Tool-Assisted-Crash-Speedrun (TACS), it's just a crash in the game... I might or might not try to find a way to crash it sooner. Until then, these 2 videos will have to do.

Not youtube, not crappy, but definitely worth watching. It's a video about comments people leave on videos on collegehumor. http://www.collegehumor.com/video:1771556 Very funny! FIRST!

I'm sure you could post that movie file in the OOT thread. Even though it's not the best (as you said it yourself), I bet many people would be interested in watching it anyway. Some people (like myself) have a lot of spare time these days and are desperately looking for something to watch :)

Agreed. Also, try using the "Search" function, located at the top of this forum, between the FAQ and the Memberlist. It's very useful to know if a topic already exists or not. Oh, and don't be afraid of reviving old topics. It's better to revive old ones than to create multiple threads for 1 game.

Yes vote. Very solid run! On a sidenote, and I'm not saying that to be mean or superior or anything, but you seem to make the same mistake quite often. It's not "becouse", it's "because". Hope that helps (and also I hope I won't get flamed for trying to help). As I said, very good run. Congrats!

How to make this movie sync, by Halamantariel. 1) Use the Rice 6.0.0 video plugin 2) The other plugins should be the same as the movie uses 3) Start from the beginning, not from a savestate If it desyncs at the start (when creating the game), delete the .fla file for Majora's Mask in the "save" folder of Mupen, then play the movie again. It will desync, stop the movie, start again, and it will work this time. Now, you may ask "But where do I find this Rice 6.0.0 video plugin?", to which I would answer "Google is your friend." For the lazy: http://www.emutalk.net/showthread.php?t=25534 I'm not saying that this will sync for everyone. But this method works for me. I thought I would share it, because there's usually a lot of people having problems watching WIPs for this game. All the information I've put here is available somewhere else in this thread in previous pages though. I just thought I'd put it all in 1 post (near the latest WIP) to make things easier for people.
