I have seen a bit of interest in a few people on the IRC; its too bad you won't be able to finish; you may still want to finish your run in case no one beats your time, you can still win the weekly competition. As for the winning run; if it doesn't look flawless or near flawless, I might not continue with this game next week, since I was hoping for a complete run to be made and submitted for publishing. But time will tell.

Are you at the first main boss, or the miniboss where the old nes castlevania first boss is? Or to be more clear: are you at the hellhound or the reanimated armour?

Blue whip is a bit stronger then the regular best whip, and does an extra bar of damager every 2 or 3 hits, I beleive (and comes with an awesome -but costly- secondary weapon). I have no idea what decides what the book gives you (I always thought it was a little pouch). But the blue whip is definately the best thing to get out of it. Also, you loose it as soon as you get hit.

I did an NES one last week. http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3315 there are still about 8 hours left if you want to submit something. That should be more then enough time.

Hopefully by the end of this 6 weeks, the game will be completed well enough to be published.

Someone on the IRC had a good idea: Do a game in parts, with each week being one part, and starting next week, people must start from the end of the previous week's winner's movie. This will create a join effort speed run (unless one person really goes to town and wins all 6 weeks), in which a person who doesnt have much time can contribute without having to do the entire game. After the final week, I will submit the movie to be published. Platform: Sega Genesis Game: Castlevania - Bloodlines (U) [!].bin This week's goal: Fastest time for level one. The instant the victory music begins to play will mark the end of the level. (I am using this because I do not know if getting the orb at the end while in the air will make the game wait for you to land first or not before beginning the victory music) Options: Please use the following options when starting- play on expert mode (To get the expert mode, at the title screen press Up, Up, Down, Down, left, right, left, right, B, and then A. A chime will indicate you got it. Then go into options and set difficulty to expert). Also, please play as John Morris for this week (I may do a Eric LaCarde for another time if no one does it before then). All time saving methods (taking damage to save time, etc) are valid. Last week's winner will be announced at midnight EST (10.5 hours post time). Good luck!

Just a reminder, final submissions for this week's contest are due in 11 hours. Next week's contest will go up before then, however (as soon as I think of a good game/goal)

Yes, sirens = boss. Very nice movie, btw. I played it with said rom, though, and when I watch it it doesnt kill everything, and you only finish with half life and 15800 pts EDIT: Nevermind, I had an outdated emulator version. However, you never kill those spinny sattelite things (they are destroyable, they just have a lot of life). So I think a higher score is possible.

I wanted to make the first one a game everyone would know. Plus, I chose world 3-2 so that there would be new terrotory to improve. But I suppose you are right. So I am think I am going to change the stuff. See original post.

Welcome to my new mini-movie competition! The point of this is to practice making time attack movies without having to beat an entire game. These moview will usually be no more then 5 minutes long, and the due date is next satruday by midnight (Eastern Standard Time). Please post all submissions here. You can post a submission, and then post a better one later. Fastest submission wins the title of mini-time attack champion of the week. This week's competition: ROM: The Guardian Legend (US) goal: Highest number of points before the start of the first boss as you can.

I had forgotten about hellfire... I found that the shield rod + knight shield was a very effective boss weapon before I could get the Alucard shield. Because it moves relative to scrren position and not map position, you can scroll to the side and make it stay in place. I also killed death about as quickly as you did, but using this method.

Wow, I didnt realize I killed 30 regular enemies.... but neither doppleganger counts as a kill, fortunately. How about using a potion so you dont need to get the spike breaker armour? That saves you from killing cerberus. I assumy the bird type thing you are talking about it the Hippogriph? Yeah, it was a bitch to get by there (I had to kill a few myself). You remembered to get the lifeup along the way, right?

I honestly dont think people can go the lowest possible number. Because you are killing as little as possible, you're going to have crap for HP because of your low level. I want to see just how low people can go though. And you don't fight dracula on the first castle. I wont bother including the second castle, because you can have the power of mist form and skip all but the bosses and fight the minimum there easily. But I would be impressed if you can get the leap stone without killing those annoying flea riders. EDIT: For the record, I beat the entire game with 44 kills + dracula.

the thing is, there are times where you just dont have enough hp to go through all the monsters, and there isnt enough room to get past them. But my question here is not what is the lowest possible number, but rather, how low can you go?

Just out of curiousity, I am wondering who can beat the first castle (without killing Richtor) in Castlevania SOTN (PS1) with the least kills (as indictated by the kill counter in the start menu). My first try yielded 37; can you do it with less? I bet you could knock 7 kills off that, maybe. In case anyone is wondering, I was lvl 24 when I smashed shaft's orb.

The only reason most calculators dont show -2 on the graph of the square root of x when x=2 is because they can only graph 1 y for every x.
