Hmmm, I don't seem to have the Japanese version of the rom, nor can I find it... so I encourage the making of the avi files ASAP!

You can manipulate your own rolls by holding down other buttons before you start rolling, like B (or A, which ever one isnt rolling), and pressing start while shaking the dice.

actually, this is kind of nitpicky, but you could save a single frame by not inputting a name, if I beleive. If you do not input a name, you get player 1 or 2 by default, and you dont need to waste that one frame entering the single letter for your name (I press left then up in name select to do name selection the fastest). But I stand by my yes vote; 1 frame isnt going to bother me.

So many locked Monopoly topics... I guess runs that take about a minute each don't take very long to make (my first horrible attempt of roughly 4 minutes only took half an hour.... which is probably why it was so long). But this movie, I must vote yes on. Every time a new movie comes out, I get more impressed; hats off to you, sir!

I beleive the computer will take the 10% option if it hits income tax first turn; I'm not sure if $150 will be enough to shorten the game.

I just think its funny that a game that notoriously takes days to play on some occasion is completed in under 2 minutes....

I think this is a pretty quick completion of monopoly. Although I beleive a second or 2 can be shaved, this is a solid run and should set the goal for future speed runs (which hopefully people will attempt to improve this score upon)

Is there anyway to cut the end off of a movie? My housemate and I each made a movie for Monopoly for NES (his time was half of mine, cause I screwed up, and didnt get a chance to redo it yet). But our movies end after the last required button press. Is there anyway to cut the unneccesary parts of the movie off of the end?

No one has mentioned that you can use the command /players 8.... although I dont recall if that works on Bnet. I know it works in single player on Lan games, so that you can simulate 8 players with out needing 8 players in the game. While the monsters will take a little longer to kill with /players 8 on, you get a heck of a lot more xp. But then again, I dont know if this is the best stratagy....

I think maybe a more interesting movie would be a multiplayer game, with everyone starting a new character, cooperatively beating all 6 quests in act 1. Getting a stratagy an 8 people to do their parts well would be fun to watch, I imagine. I'm not talking about just getting on bnet and recording a game. I mean, you know who you're playing with, and they know their roles, and you all work together. This could be an interesting competition, because you don't get to manipulate luck intentionally.

Unfortunately, if I do make a movie, it wont be for a while. My fall semester at school has started, which makes me very busy :(

This makes me want to do a speedrun using my vcr and sega genesis. But don hold your breath, I am not all that great at the game, and all my friends are notably worse then I am (cause there is no way I can handle 3 controllers at once. I dont even OWN 3 controllers).

I was just reading the back of the box the cartridge comes in, and it says you can play 3 players. I don't think the SNES version supports 3 players, but since the genesis one seems to, this could be the first "1 person controls 3 players" on this website :)

To make it even faster, you may want to consider a 2 player game. This would also reduce the need to switch vikings by probably about 1/3 to 1/2.

Yes, however if I take the time to get a second monopoly to sell to the computer, I think it would waste too much time. I bet I can bankrupt the computer before they get around the board once :)

OK, so I have looked everywhere in this game, but I cant find a way to turn the animations off :( I found the option to put the game on fast mode. However, someone told me there was a way to turn off the animations. If I cant turn off the animations, then the movie gets very boring and much longer.

I was originally going to do a time attack for the NES version, because I like that one so much. However, Famtasia in its infinate glory cannot run any of the US versions of the game, and crashes when you try to build houses in the Japanese version. So I want to get people's advice on this. What routes do you think would be best? I assume, through extreme luck manipulation, that I can quickly beat the computer by getting a manopoly in 1 or 2 turns around the board (or maybe even 1) and building houses and such very quickly, and having the computer landing on it. I could, in theory, get Tenessee and St. James by landing on 1 and then rolling snake-eyes, then getting a chance card to put me back 3 spaces onto New York. Then I should be able to buy several houses so that the computer lands on New York, then pay me lotsa money to the point where I can finish putting up houses (or hotels if the cash flow is enough) and have the computer land on New York again next time around and should go bankrupt. I can get the monopoly in 2 turns (from start, double 5's, then land on St. James. 2nd turn: snake eyes to Tenesee, then to chance and back 3 spaces onto New York). This could be an interesting time-attack to compete with, because of the huge number of different ways to win. Also, I could make an asthetic video in which I get all the monopolies. That could be interesting to watch :)

I see... well then, I request that this thread be locked, and I will start a new one in the SNES board. Thanks!

The reason I like the NES version of monopoly is because it has faster gameplay then the SNES and Genesis versions. Those you can't seem to skip through the animations, and the gameplay therefor seems much slower.

And I have already hit a snag.... the only rom that will even start on Famtasia is the japonese version; all the other ones get bad opcode errors. However, the japonese version gets a bad opcode error when you try to build houses. So unless someone knows how to get around this problem, this project is defunct already.

Everyone's favorite board game! But, would a time attack even be worth it? I may be interesting to see who can manipulate the most luck, heh. I will attempt a time attack, if people think it will be interesting.

I used to play this game quite often, and I seem to remember the game's programming to be pretty tight. Short of the 1500 gold gllitch in the beginning (which I dont see as very usefull for a speed run), I cant think of any glitches at all. But I'll try to find some to help you out, because I too would love to see a speed run of this wonderful game. Dude, that tree is really, really, huge.
