I'd happily give this a yes vote if the ending was fixed. It'd be arbitrary to make a rule stating exactly how much of the final boss should be played as it varies between games. A game like this, the entire concept of which is fighting bosses, should...like...fight all the bosses. Similar situations have arisen in the past and fighting over not fighting seems to be the most popular choice: http://tasvideos.org/944M.html http://tasvideos.org/1595S.html

I'm sure that finding users to donate a consistent fee shouldn't be too difficult. I'd like to keep this site alive and would be happy to make monthly donations. For the sake of furthering the conversation you can sign me up for up to $20 per month for a year (and most likely a year beyond, yet I can't say for sure now what my financial situation will be). Hopefully more people join in to donate so the sum paid by each person decreases.

I think that this run, in its own right, is technically and stylistically too good to be rejected on either ground. On the other hand I don't think that this should obsolete the Knuckles run. The Knuckles run is a more interesting movie because it is a game that really should have existed (rather than blue sphere) and therefore is a much more interesting hack than this one. The runs, however, I think are different enough for them both to be published in the concept demos category. There's more to this run than just flying over everything and there are tricks not seen in the currently published runs.

I'm looking forward to seeing a run of this as I've tried speedrunning the early levels before (real time). I couldn't get anywhere near the soniccenter times for turquoise 1 and 2, both of which sit at 00:11s. Yours' were at 00:13 and 00:14 respectively...just wondering if I'm missing something as I'd love to see them beaten :-)

This was pretty cool for a dungeon RPG. Opening cutscene and all aside this was a fast paced run. Luck manipulation looked good too so I don't mind giving this a yes vote. I'm unfamiliar with this game so I can't comment on any emulation issues, but nothing stood out as being particularly ugly or out of place (in fact I thought the music was good).

Watching this really makes me look forward to an eventual Abe's Odyssey run. That'll make a great movie; some of you really go for the whole Prince of Persia thing, although personally I hate it, but an OAO tas would show very clever solutions to tough problems in a tough and aesthetically beautiful game. A GB port obviously can't compare and I think some of you may have been unduly harsh here. My expectations were low (of the game) but it seemed to be a little better than I expected. The run seemed to be well done and I thought the use of the glitch was clever in places. Decent for a GB submission, but somewhat weak in comparison with the rest of the site's content. I don't mind yessing this, but it leans close to a meh.

From a neutral perspective I'll give this a yes vote. A bit repetitive in places, but overall a nice addition to the DS list.

I'd like to see this. I was messing around with it about a month or two ago, but there was a lot about the game I didn't understand. I have a vague memory of someone (probably SprintGod) saying that the value of the timer isn't always consistent when starting a level. The TAS wouldn't be too long since all the levels can be beaten in less than 20s. P.S. Game Gear version would probably be best. P.P.S. Sonic Triple Trouble would be cool too.

Great movie. It was noticeably different from the other runs, which was great. Yes vote.

Although I'm glad the rating system has been removed I'm disappointed that it has been replaced so quickly with the old one. I think that, in the light of the rating system's resounding failure, now would be a good time to consider alternative solutions as the yes/no/meh system obviously isn't perfect. I agree with mmbossman when the says that the rating system works on paper but not in practice. I remember someone arguing that weighting the ratings may work better i.e. if X's average rating is an 8 and Y's average rating is a 6 they will both be of equal value on the workbench. This, of course, is just an idea. I'd say that it may be worth considering alternatives, as so many people opposed the voting system a year ago when asked, that it may be foolish to completely revert so suddenly.

Could you elaborate on the rules of the game physics (the blue wings (bubbles?)). From what I saw it looked as if it could be quite complex to get maximum X velocity while controlling the Y velocity. Your movement never seemed to follow any sort of frame-based pattern which leads me to believe that usage was random. I also noticed a quite a few of the things mentioned above. I have not voted yet, but at the moment my verdict is a 6/4. The latter may change upon new information. P.S. No I haven't played this game.

I've been waiting for this for a while. Thanks to everyone for all their hard work! Its great to see an up to date VBA since the GBA especially still oozes TAS potential.

If you are using the internal memory watch then alden is right and you'll just have to search in every level unfortunately. However, if you have been using an external memory watch program (MHS, Artmoney etc.) it may just be screwing you around and it'd be worth continuing to try. I've had it happen before.

Personally, I vote 'Tompa fucking rules' on a numerical scale. Thanks for going through all that tough stuff to bring us such a great run. I really enjoyed this and the WIPs P.S. I've spent 17 years trying to get the dark overworld theme out of my head, damn you Tompa! No idea why I find it is so catchy...

Read the rules. In reply to your above post I personally recommend:
ROM requests are not allowed. This also applies to private messages.
And:
The language on this board is English.

Hells yeah. I've been quietly waiting on this for quite some time. As MM is becoming more and more broken the more I really think this run needs to be made (no offense intended towards the great work Mr Grunz, Slowking, Petrie and Swordless have been doing recently). I stated a few years ago that 100% MM was unrealistic, now I think it's perfectly feasible, especially when Mupen64plus is released. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say "open source TAS". This is a perfect candidate. Anyone?

Although not a trick movie per se you can find most of the tricks used in the runs here and many others explained on the Ocarina of Time tricks page and many of them have accompanying videos. Alternatively you could use youtube if you felt like spending hours braving the wasteland trying to find something useful. Organised, concise and up-to-date glitch documentation is difficult to come across on the internet these days unfortunately...

Nice to see this up and I have no problems with the list as it stands. As to the N64 star I think there are two options 1) give it to Goldeneye for now with a view to passing it on to Majora's Mask in future (I think "All Quests" is fundamentally unsuited for a star as will the upcoming any%). 2) Alternatively, it may be worth investing into the PSX category (which has recently arisen since these discussions began). At present the N64 category could potentially have two stars, but at the present rate I wouldn't be surprised if the PSX section has more movies by the end of 2009. Conversely, I don't see any reason we can't leave it unassigned at the moment rather than simply starring runs for lack of a better option. Both these sections are underdeveloped at present, but they are likely to become more full in the near future and the star could be assigned when more choice is available.

Such short runs that are so glitchy usually have said glitches completely dominate the movie. This can be novel, but usually becomes repetitive. That is not true of this run. It is unique in the sense that for a short glitchy run there is a surprisingly large amount of gameplay. I found it interesting that even within this gameplay you found and exploited many other little glitches. An enjoyable watch. A nice first TAS, hopefully not the last ;-)

This is a pretty great game. I keep getting up to level 19 before dying, but I'm sure I'll come back to it to finish it off. Looks quite funny from a TASing perspective too; imagine manipulating the fastest character against the easiest enemies in the least laggy and most opportune environment (and the best music ;-))? Something for the 'hardest game to TAS' thread no doubt...

- I never really use note pad. I always type my route out and type general observations as I test run, but when it comes down to recording my final copy I have most of this committed to memory. - I only ever TAS at night for varying lengths of time. Usually starting about 9-10pm until 1-2am. I'll usually have about two or three nights a week where I have this time, but may well get caught up with friends or there may be a movie/tv show I'd rather watch. - I HAVE to be listening to music. Sometimes it's as simple as just listening to the radio, but if there's nothing on I'll just listen to an album. I usually go for something relaxing and ambient like Bablo; jazz is a favorite, but blues and reggae also work well. - I do all my TASing on my laptop and usually in my bed because I'm lazy and it's awesome. - Although my sessions are fairly long I take a lot of thought time. I'll do something cool and then make a cup of tea or do some other chore while I dwell on it. - Anyway, when I finally get down to it; tunes on, rom loaded, play movie to current point (usually fast forward but sometimes I may want to watch my most recent work again), I always put a state 1 at the start of the current level/area to watch back read only, state 2 is always at the start of the current segment of the levelvso I can redo with a slightly different tact if need be and the rest of the states are just optimisation and comparison, I then load the RAM watch file and a comparison emulator and go for it. I use keyboard for everything other than Gens since you can assign frame advance to a shoulder button (joytokey doesn't let me hold FA to scroll at normal speed with the others). Frame Advance is always \ and I like to use quick save and quick load hotkeys if the emulator supports them.

I've decided to hold off on this for a couple of months until vba v21 is released. I wouldn't be losing too much anyway (just up to Viridian Forest). http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1276838582/pokemonblue.vbm I have a number of reasons for doing this: 1) current emulators don't fill me with confidence; v19 is the choice, but doesn't emulate this game well and v20 sucks apparently. I used v20 for this. 2) It gives me a chance to finish the route, and 3) I'd much rather wait for Lua scripting which is now high priority. This game screams for it and the earlier parts of this run are where I can really get the benefits. I think it's definitely worth the wait

My personal favorite is Sonic 1 Megamix, although I don't play many hacks. You should enjoy it if you are a sonic fan as it has the non-linearity and tempo of the later genesis sonic games but with some cool throwbacks to the earlier ones.

My Desktop I used to change them around quite a bit, but I settled with this over a year ago. It's nice and tranquil, and helps relieve stress during long TASing sessions ;-)
