Using the new GLideN64 I get a black strip in the sky where there should be a white/blue blend in Pilotwings 64. I've fiddled with a bunch of options (and I'll be honest, quite a few of them I have no idea what they're for) and I can't seem to fix it, so I was wondering if there was any idea on how I can fix this that isn't just "use another plugin" (it looks fine in Glide64mk2, but that doesn't run as well for me).

Okay, thanks for the answer. Is there any chance or plan to add upscaling?

Is there an option for this? I assumed it was the User Prescale option, but that doesn't seem to do anything. I'm just looking for the option to increase the internal resolution, if there is one.

Personally, I'd really like to see a run of Rocky Rodent. I have nostalgic memories of that game. Maybe not good memories, but nostalgic nonetheless.

Yep, that's where I got them. The frame advance works in 1.43 for me so it's not that big of a deal anymore.

I haven't used Snes9x since before I upgraded to Windows 7, but today I started it up again and found that frame advance isn't working regardless of the hotkey I use. I figured that maybe I had an older version, so I went and got the newer 1.52 release and that one doesn't work either. I've also attempted running the program in various compatibility modes. Anyone have any ideas? I'm running Windows 7 64-bit, which is really the only thing I've changed between Vista and 7. Edit: I just tried 1.43 and it automatically disables Aero when I start a ROM. The frame advance also seems to work. I'm suspecting that Aero may be my issue. I'll test with 1.52 to see. Edit edit: Nope. Aero isn't the issue. I guess I'll just use 1.43 since that seems to work.

The save button only saves one address. Edit: Nevermind. I misunderstood what the function was asking me before.

Yea, like the title says, I was wondering if there was a way to dump the memory (the memory you see when you go to Tools>Debug>Memory Viewer) to a file so I can easily compare the memory of two frames in GBA. I figured it would be a lot easier to compare the memory through a separate program than it would to constantly memory search, especially since I have no idea how the number works/changes. In case someone may know how to figure it out without dumping, I'll post my problem: I need to figure out which memory address says I have a critical in an RPG, as well as which one decides whether I dodge an attack. The RNG changes every frame, and I wanted to dump the memory of a critical frame and the memory of a non-critical frame.

At the request of TheEnglishMan I have done another encode including the Metal Gear REX fight. You can download the full game encode here: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=FPLE24C0 OR You can download just the fight here: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=I2UC33UR

I would have attempted this, but Tenchu and Tenchu 2 still don't work in the latest version of PCSX. Tenchu 2 gets to the main menu, and lets you select stuff, but then it just goes black. Tenchu 1 doesn't even get that far. If only...

I made an encode for you and anyone else who needs it. I'll upload it in a few hours when my bandwidth is freed up. Edit: I uploaded it to Megaupload. Here you go: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=FPLE24C0 Edit Edit: Updated with the Metal Gear REX fight.

For useful information on class setups and which are best, I recommend this guide: http://db.gamefaqs.com/portable/gbadvance/file/golden_sun_class_setup.txt He even recommends what djinn setup to have for key fights. Whether his recommendations are useful for a TAS, I don't know, but he does explain stats and stuff.

Well, Heroes of the Lance was submitted three or four times and rejected each time. I don't think it would do any good to try to run that and submit it when it's basically guaranteed to be rejected. I didn't really plan on submitting this one either; I just wanted to show the game, mostly. The problem is the fact that the game basically devolves into being just like the first one, which was -as stated earlier- rejected. I mean, I guess I could finish and try submitting it, but I don't think it would get accepted.

I have a game I've been trying to remember the name of. I played it a bunch when I was younger, but I haven't played it since then so some of the stuff I remember is kind of vague.
  • It was a Super Nintendo game.
  • You played as a porcupine (I think, or a similar animal).
  • You equipped different kinds of hair (or at least I remember a weapon that was your hair turning into an axe blade).
  • It was a sidescroller, maybe a platformer.
  • One of the first levels was a haunted apartment and the boss was a giant ghost... I think.
It'd be great to play this game again, just to see if I could do any better. I remember it being really hard.

I was watching the Spoony One's video game reviews, and I got the idea to run this game. I saw that someone had already submitted a run for the game that came out before this one (Heroes of the Lance) and it had been rejected. I figured this one would be too, so I don't plan to submit it, but I figured I should at least show what I did in a matter of two hours. This game is actually very boring to TAS. Very little in the way of luck manipulation except for the overworld portion, which I didn't even have to manipulate very much to begin with. Everything else was just turbo B, which a normal player could do. You may notice I get into a few fights early on. It was mostly because I was being lazy in manipulating. I may finish this once I test out the English patch. I wanted to heal one of the characters, but I couldn't and I don't know why (a screen in all Japanese shows up). So, until then, I'll just stand in front of the... troll/golem/construct thing at the end. I actually came pretty close to finishing this in the short amount of time I played it. You can follow my progress along once I enter the cave using the walkthrough here: http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/nes/file/570643/36483 Anyway, here's a youtube video and a movie file. This was done using the unpatched (J) version of the ROM on FCEU RR 0.98.28. Download the FCM Watch on Youtube

Huh... the movie listed for download from archive.org on the movie page is for Kid Niki 2... I watched that run thinking I was watching this. That would explain why I was so confused reading the comments.

I took both tests and they both gave me the same answer with varying amounts. I got ISTJ. First test gave me: Strength of the preferences % Introverted: 100 Sensing: 25 Thinking: 50 Judging: 1 Second test gave me: Introverted (I) 70% Extroverted (E) 30% Sensing (S) 51.43% Intuitive (N) 48.57% Thinking (T) 60% Feeling (F) 40% Judging (J) 55.56% Perceiving (P) 44.44% ISTJ - "Trustee". A few months ago I was working on Legend of Dragoon to see if it would have looked any good as a TAS. The main reason for this was the combat was a little more involved than most other turn-based RPGs. I own the game, but I've never beaten it, so I figured I play around with this. So, I have here a short-ish movie of about 53000 frames. I fight four battles (two unavoidable, and two random). I'll post comments about things that people may want answers to with frame locations of it. Download the movie here (you'll need the NTSC version of the game): http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?4yzmmzm3gmn If anyone wants to encode it, be my guest. I tried once already and I got a bunch out of sync audio. I may try encoding it again, maybe. I've tried encoding it several times, and I just can't get it to work. 0-~1500: Just the opening FMV and the title screen. Nothing exciting. 1547-11000: A lengthy, unskippable FMV. You can fast forward through this without desyncing (I've never had it desync when skipping this). 13314: I repeatedly tap X instead of holding it. For some reason I didn't think I needed to hold it to skip the text. My mistake. ~13900: I mash buttons hoping something can skip this. Can't. ~20200: Still tapping X. >.> ~23900: Finally started holding X instead. This is much faster. 24535: First frame I gain control of Dart. ~24600: I jump the fence pretty close to the first possible frame. ~24900: More dialogue ~26700: First battle. You may notice that frame advance moves forward 3 (!) frames for each advance while in battle. 26810: I hit X more-or-less dead-on. 28510: More dialogue... ~30200: I got the Burn Out for the "boss" fight. 34700: I tried several different ways of manipulating this fight. It turns out that the frame you do something on doesn't matter. The enemies react to what you do on your turn. So, instead of doing the Burn Out first, I slash instead. This keeps him from using his strongest attack on me on his turn. I then use the Burn Out, which I will more than likely use a turbo button on from now on (the horrible 3 frames per advancement is keeping me from getting the best I can on that tapping.). 39570: I understand I can get Star Dust here, but since I don't know what it's used for, and since this was just a short run-through, I didn't bother getting it. 44900: I skip the salesman here. I wanted to find out if I could avoid random battles or not (hint: I can't). 46297: The pause here actually manages to delay the random encounter. 46600: I tried for about a half an hour to avoid this encounter, but no matter what I did, it happened in the exact same amount of steps. No dodging encounters in this game, it seems. 47100: I'm not entirely sure why I didn't flee here. *shrug* 51828: I couldn't avoid this encounter either. I couldn't even delay it to get out of the area. 52653: I delay for enough frames to Flee. The RNG seems to still effect that, at least. I haven't tested for criticals, yet, but I assume it would be possible. So, there you have it. What I've learned so far of how the game would go if it were to be a TAS. It seems that since random encounters aren't completely avoidable that there may need to be some light grinding in order to survive later on. Personally, I don't know if I'll be the one who does the whole game (I really doubt I will), but if this gets anyone else interested in running it then I did well enough. I may keep tinkering with the game off-and-on, but I don't have the patience to optimize something like this. If I were to do a run of it it would most likely be pretty sloppy (pretty much, more of what you see in that movie).

That was really impressive. I don't really have much to add to that since I'm not really a Tetris player or anything, but... looked good to me. It didn't desync for me.

I'd like to see a Phoenix Wright run... but I don't know how entertaining that would be for someone who hasn't played it, really.

That doesn't work. I've tested it. The enemy does the same thing on the next turn regardless of what I enter.

So far I have not been able to manipulate what the enemy does while in battle.
