The URL has changed, http://grh.se/heap/tas/ I think I can have a more up-to-date version on my computer (I'm currently at work). Will check when I'm back home. Feel free to watch my work and continue from it.

Progress, level 5 is done. Level 5 introduces a new type of bomb, but I never pick one up so you have to wait for level 6 (dunno if I need one on level 6, haven't done the map for it yet thus not planed my route either) to actually see one in action. Level 5 also introduces a new type of place (forest instead of mines) and two new type of enemies. Length: 00:12:43 Frames: 45782 Re-record count: 2028 http://grh.se/tas/ 12 levels left.

Okey, downloaded version 9 and fixed the desync (I played the entire movie and I ended up on level 4). http://www.grh.se/tas/

Uhm... There's no point in dying, you just have to start from the beginning of the level. So if the character dies in the movie, it's desynched. Will try and play the movie once more on my computer to see if it desynchs for me. EDIT: Try using snes9xw-improvement7, not 9. When I did the first two levels so was #7 the latest emulator, so I have just continued to use that one. And I just saw that #9 exists now, so that's maybe the problem. Try #7 and see if it still desynchs. EDIT2: Just noticed that it desynchs for me too, I use a key to cross a bridge, go down the ladder, and go down along the side. New screen, and I walk of the side, run to the ladder, climb down and then runs towards the closed door and throws a grenade so I die. Is it at the same place for you where the character dies? EDIT3: Off-topic.. but is it safe/unsafe to jump over and start working with #9 instead?

Woot, update! Found some time so I did level 3, played the entire level with Frame Advance. I counted frames, took different routes to find out which one was faster, even if it was only with a frame or two. If you are interested in my WIP, grab the movie (.smv) here: http://www.grh.se/tas/ It playes the first three levels so far. Length: 00:07:08 Frames: 25701 Re-record count: 1295

Sorry if I'm annoying, but I want to post when I have done something ;)

cool, 4 picture of level maps
Yeah, I needed to do maps to plan my routes better. ;) Only did the four first levels to start with, I will do the other maps when I get there. Found another route, or what to say, I kill different enemies on level 2, saved me 87 frames! And started doing level 3.

More progress! I changed From Blackhawk (the european title/game) to Blackthorne (the american title/game). Found a slightly faster route on level 1 and finished level 2. I had some desync problem at the end of level 2, but I just redid the last part and it seems to have solved the desync. For you who want to see what I have done so far: http://www.grh.se/tas/

The movie is now updated, re-made level 1 with 'Use WIP1 Timing' so now it's just to load the movie and press the OK button. Some minor information: It's faster to draw the weapon and then turn, than turn and then draw the weapon. As I said before, run-jump is the fastest way to cross a straight path. In level 1: Why am I not doing two run-jump at the first door I blow up? The monster at the ladder will knock me down then. It's faster to run into that room and then jump, since the monster won't knock me down then. http://www.grh.se/tas/

Sorry for bumping up and old thread, but hey! There is actually some progress. :) I once again tried to do a TAS on Blackhawk, and played through the whole first level. Yay! Unfortunately so does it desyncs unless you choose 'Use WIP1 Timing'. I will redo the movie later (read, in the next few days, as soon I find some more time) with this options chosed from the beginning. I have used Frame Advance from the very beginning, I do also have the frame count when I record to see if it's faster to roll, run or run-jump across a path. (Mostly run-jump is the fastest way). For you people that want to see my progress, here is level 1. http://www.grh.se/tas/

Really nice :) Just one question though, when you are just "wasting time" on X1, isn't that enough time to get the "Fireball" (dunno what it's real name is, but I call it "Fireball") power-up? EDIT: Nevermind me, the second I pressed the submit button I just remembered that you need all Heart and Sub Tanks to be able to get it.

I use CCCP for my codec needs. The one and only codecpack I have ever needed.

Nice :) So we can maybe expect a .mkv file for testing purpose as well? :)

I have long wondered when you guys should change from AVI container to something else. And with the last release (Rad Racer), you actually changed. :) But to OGM? Isn't MKV the better choice?
KAA Wiki wrote:
Why the switch from AVI? Recently, KickAssAnime has used AVI less in favor of Matroska Video. Several groups did the same (switching from either AVI or OGM), with the notable exception of fansubs. The main reason behind this are that only Matroska supports two features that play an important role in video quality: anamorphism and Variable Frame Rate. Matroska is also generally considered to be superior to the other containers in every aspect.

I have been thinking a long time on doing a speedrun of this wonderful game from Blizzard. After some time I actually got my thumb out of my ass and completed level 1 directly and nice, I was proud :) But then when I watched my movie so did it not play it as I did, and it played it differently each time.. :( Someone else who have plans on doing a speedrun of Blackthorne and maybe not have this problem that I have?
