Personally, the two things that could make this slightly better would be speeding through the credits and hitting everything, and the fighting and utterly humiliating the Ness cpu.
I agree with this. It would be pretty cool seeing an 100% hit rate of the credits and beating the crap out of Ness.

This run is an example of both everything Super Smash Bros is and can be, and what a TAS is and can be. You destroy enemies in pretty funny ways, and it had me laughing thoughout. This is the kinda thing I was talking about. Yes vote.

However, I almost get the impression that this run would be more entertaining to people who have never actually played the game.
I'm sure they'd get great thrills from repetitive moves and rapid smashes to the bottom of the world.

This movie didn't entertain me. Here's the thing though; I've never played the game. Even if this was the most entertaining run on the site and was published, I still wouldn't watch it as a newcomer to the site because I've never even heard of the game. Meanwhile the people who had heard of it would be like "ooh I know this game" in their respective language and go nuts over it. Just my opinion on this sort of thing that happens to be very well represented with this run.

Wow, that was pretty cool to watch. Also the first time I've seen a game go up to 330fps(!). I probably won't be doing an encode right away, but if it's in high demand I could take a shot.

I think its a shame the run doesnt show all of the game's quirks, but that'd easily be an hour long run going through all the characters in the game (which is an idea actually <_<)
In one of the previous SSB submissions (or perhaps the main thread, doesn't matetr), someone brought up the idea of [A] the game being beaten with 4 "interesting" characters (i.e. where lots of move variety (nonstandard like yoshi?) can be shown) to unlock everyone. Other ideas involved using sram to have all characters. Like, [B] playing around with each character at least once in 2, 3, or 4 player vs matches. Or [C] beating all the BtT and BtP levels. I think any of these 3 game plans, if well executed, has a shot at being published.
Though bkDJ isn't really suggesting it, I feel that 2/3 categories might be necessary, though I am usually against large amounts of categories for games *cough*Metroid series*cough*

I don't taunt in the end of the stage to avoid getting the fighter stance bonus which takes time to show up, see my point?
For future reference, this is allowed. Just add the category Ignores delays caused by bonus effects and mention that it's for entertainment and we'll probably allow it, since it is a nice touch. I doubt anyone will complain about it.

Note how Alden and Raiscan (I think) apologized and hugged and became friends again with the "I apologize for this, what I meant was this" etc. There is no need for apologizing and then immediately going into another rant with an asshole attitude implied in the text
I didn't really apologise. I clarified. And since when was opinion an asshole attitude rant?

Firefox died when I was writing this reply, so I've already forgotten how I wrote some of it. I'll try anyway.

Why should anyone bother to try to make it faster if it's going to be rejected outright or run the risk of being called imperfect without any solid evidence?
The problem is that Blaze probably doesn't even realise theres a forum here. If he did, he could probably come here and say "I'm pretty sure this is opimized, heres why". Anyone else could also do this if they were here. I'd be interested to hear what he has to say on the many matters in this thread.

And if I've read your argument correctly, you're not saying it's imperfect but rather that my "...views of entertaining are horrible...." I respect and appreciate the fact that you (and others) don't have to share the same opinions, but frankly, deriding other members of this community for their different views in such a dismissive manner is not very persuasive and frankly a bit disappointing. But I digress.
Regrettably I appear to have given the wrong impression in that part of my post. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion of course. I just feel that this run compared to some of the things antd does in his videos is... lacking extremely. I like this game alot and I don't feel it's gameplay is given justice by the same move many times over along with jumping into pits to display massive FAILURE messages twice. It just doesn't cut it for me.
alden wrote:
I guess what I really want to know is why it appears to be not perfect, since I can't see it at 100% like Baxter says.
in the multi-man fights, some are hit twice and some are hit once, with what could be suboptimal movement (has he bothered to see if attacking different people is faster?). That's what I see, anyway.

Noticeable by some... anyone care to back up claims of imperfection with a faster version? :)
We don't have to. I'm sure if someone is desperate to get this game published they'll try to themselves.

DivX Codec 4.12
IIRC, DivX uses YUV 4:1:1 as a colourspace, whereas the video output of all emulators is RGB24. It's possible the conversion is making colours seem very different (it's noticable on some of the more colourful game's AVIs on the site too)

Sure, this movie is repetitive at times. Any by that, I mean fairly often. But the same can be said about many other TASes, can it not? There are a number of TASes which abuse fast but repetitive strategies that are already on the site.
Theres a key difference with this movie; SSB has other moves that can be used, and has the potential to be non-repetitive. This is what other fighting games do, and why they are entertaining.

Besides, this game is long overdue for a published TAS. Reptitive or not, there is always the frame wars to look forward to.
"look forward to"... riiiight.

I could do one of Kirby, but it would have to be him with an ability that changes his colour like Ninja or Beam. As mentioned, the Pink turns to purple when converted to AVI. Don't ask why. It just does.
What codec are you using to capture/encode?

Ugh, your views of entertaining are horrible in my opinion. Have any of you guys seen antd's youtube channel? Now THAT'S entertainment in SSB. Why can't we have runs with incorporations of that sort of style?

Are you guys kidding me?! I thought this was extremely boring. Same moves over and over and over. Skips the targets and platforms. The only remotely likeable part was the master hand. The goals of this movie don't follow the same goals that fighting games usually do. Strong no vote.

Not to reference the first post, but I disagree with the Pokemon Blue run score. The pokemon faint, not die. Also, does it include cut trees as kills?
The cut trees regrow, so therefore they can't be dead. Perhaps 'CUT' only cuts them down enough to be passed, but not enough to kill them. Under this assumption, maybe the HM should be renamed 'PRUNING'.

Well, your 0 in "return (0)" should not be in parenthesis. Other than that, I don't know.
I'm pretty sure it can be if he so wishes. It doesn't really make a difference.

Nice run and a "yes" vote for all three spidermmbossman submissions. I took a few screenshots while watching this: <images> The graphics are messy at times, so it's hard to take a good shot.
while your screenshots are usually pretty good, I can't use them because the top and bottom black border is always cropped. The resolution MUST be 320x240 but for yours it's always less on the height. Never mind, Upthorn has enlightened me on the Genesis NTSC resolution.
