I feel I should point out to you guys that the run is actually published now, so your votes aren't doing much :)

Just watched this WIP by viewing the latest mkv (syncing it up is such a hassle and I like to rewind to see some things again) and I have to say I am totally impressed. The sneakiness of the getting up to the snow temple and the things done during the alien invasion are just awesome. I absolutely loved where you lined them up. It was sort of a "whats he doing... oh wait theres another going faster, I'll bet he'll get both.. no 3! no 4" moment that made me laugh. I look forward to watching the next WIP and final run.

Yes vote for the improvement, the care taken into making this run and for entertaining me despite never playing the game.

Game looks great to me, and I'm using Rice's Video Plugin 6.1.1 beta 10.
I wasn't able to get it to sync using that plugin. It's a good one too.
Try setting it to use OpenGL. Also try slowing the game down slightly whenever he goes near the bomb shop area. Should sync up nicely.

Never played the game, but it looks entertaining and optimized enough for me to vote yes. I didn't notice any glaringly obvious problems. Bits of this run I like are the rapid skiing bit and the fall to your death that completed the level. I can't believe an N64 game has loading screens though :(

I'm quite disappointed that this run was possible. The previous 16-star run was truly excellent - finally an N64 movie that was up to par with the rest of the site! - and now, this has removed many of the more entertaining parts by either skipping the levels, or speeding through a normally entertaining level backwards. Yawnsnake.
At the risk of fueling the fire of debate, the same could be said by some with the Megaman games. Speed doesn't always equal entertainment. Its a shame that its usually speed that is checked when there are major time differences, but what other option is there? Lots of different categories? "Glitchless" runs? But then that wouldn't fit for the nicely lengthed 16-star run. perhaps "Slightly glitchless but enough to make this run interesting". I dare suggest there be a TAE (tool assisted entertaining runs) section where perhaps the highest voted entertaining runs that have been obsoleted are displayed.

Voting No. Heres why: 1. compared to 894S, you have fewer rerecords and a longer time. 2. As Comicalflop has said, terribly unoptimized. 3. SSB is a very controversial game when it comes to TASing with many runs in the past being submitted and rejected. Think you just picked a baaad game for TASing :)

Hot damn, go away for a few days and there's a 6 minute SM64 run and a new WIP from Primo. Nice work.
This must mean you are a progress-limiting human charm. Please feel free to go away more often.

The problem is now resolved as of today with a patch from Microsoft: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/938979/en-us I am pleasantly suprised it has been released before SP1, but disappointed it has taken this long.

If you're looking for a bittorrent client that takes up very small amounts of space, cpu power and RAM, I would highly recommend µtorrent. Windows only, but its what I use for every torrent on this site. Looking forward to the next WIP Sami. I'm very impressed so far.

Just watched the SDA single segment run. I encourage anyone who hasn't seen it and/or plans to try a TAS of this game to watch it. Things I noticed:
  • 100 Golden Bananas are required for the end, but you can get into different worlds without requiring their respective banana amounts by using lanky kong's 3rd attack to sort of "pull" yourself past the guarding guy into the portal. This allows for some very.. Interesting routes. With tasing and some undescovered glitch it might be possible you don't need many (if any) golden banana's at all.
  • You can turn story line stuff off in the options on the main menu. This means it is likely you don't have to do the reset thing I mentioned in my previous post.
  • Fastest movement for each character will probably have to be tested alot. While in the SDA run donkeys roll/diddy's normal running/Tiny's kicking or whatever are fast, there may be something faster thats much easier to pull off when TASing.
  • 100% would be long and could easily be very boring.
  • With TAS optimisation and no more nifty tricks discovered, the run could be anywhere from 4:15:00 - 4:25:00. New tricks would hopefully make it sub 4 hours.
If I discover anything else I'll edit this post.

I did a bit of testing. I found the Japanese version of DK64 works okay. I think theres a problem with the new game intro thing, but I managed to get past it by resetting the game with the new mupen and opening the save up again. (Edit: Better idea below) The game then seems to play as normal. The Japanese version plays the Rap waay too fast, but unlike (E) and (U) versions it accepts input so you can skip it. Whether input syncs well on this game is another matter that needs to be checked.

If anyone is having trouble deciding whether its worth watching this run, it is. The sheer speed alone in Starry Night zone is incredible. But Dr. Robotnik lives to fight another day...

Okay for the benefit of other people I'm now going to prove that you can work all this AVS stuff out from that single link (and also prove you're not looking hard enough) Src 1: http://avisynth.org/mediawiki/First_script Says here that you can import AVI's using the following: AviSource("c:\folder\myclip.avi") Src 2: http://avisynth.org/mediawiki/StackHorizontal Says there that you use "StackHorizontal" to make it stack two AVI's horizontally. By using just two sources you can make a 1 line script like this:
StackHorizontal(AviSource("c:\folder\myclipleft.avi"), AviSource("c:\folder\myclipright.avi"))
Src 1
Open up any text editor, type the above on the first line (using any AVI file on your machine as "myclip.avi"), and save it as "myclip.avs". You now have a script that can be opened by most AVI players in your machine: Windows Media Player 6.4 (aka "mplayer2") will play the script; so will VirtualDubMod or plain VirtualDub. So far as they care, your text document is an AVI file.
I'm afraid if you can't understand that then I can't help you any further.

StackHorizontal I'm afraid you'll have to consult google for alot of these things, but StackHorizontal(movie1.avi,movie2.avi) in a text file renamed to have the extension ".avs" might help. You may have to do some other stuff also, I don't remember. you can open the avs in VirtualDub and save it to whatever avi you want.

I'm not quite sure what you are trying to accomplish other than something which doesn't actually exist. If you want such a "Split screen" for playing the game normally, and having one viewport on sonic and one the normal camera, you will be disappointed to know that the movie on the website was created via the following:
  1. Make an AVI using the non-camhack emulator
  2. Make an AVI using the camhack emulator
  3. Merge the two AVI's together using whatever program you want (I used an AVIsynth script). Sound generated by the camhack emulator is a bit weird so discard that audio track and use the original one instead.
  4. Optionally compress it for uploading.
Also as I previously said, with cam hack enabled the emulation is pretty slow and the sound sucks, so even if you decided to load up two emulators and have them both accept input at the same time you would have to get them running at the same speed (which would be slower than realtime). I should probably summarise this all: Split screen doesn't exist. It was made by sticking 2 AVI's together. Camhack doesn't play full speed. Making a splitscreen emulator wouldn't be very feasible.

Perhaps if he was persuaded to read the rules (I know theres now a link in his submission text but I'm not sure if he'll notice it) he would be more enlightened as to why his runs keep getting rejected, and MAYBE make one up to par with the rest on the site.

VBA With Sonic Advance Camhack You can set the hotkey under Tools --> Customize all Commands. Be warned that this likely isn't what you're looking for. Why? Well, with the camhack active, the emulator can't run at full speed and the sound goes very echo-ey. This is one reason why an AVI was made. I don't have the linux version/source, but nitsuja might.

I tried using moon jump but it was hard to actually figure out where the star would be. I couldn't see it, so unless its invisible and I was just having bad luck finding it I don't think its possible.

I was referring to electricity usage. I'm pretty sure its impossible to tell the outcome of a single user's actions in projects this big other than how much they have participated.

I hate to nitpick but its googol. Apart from that I found this post very... eerily informative.
