As far as I can see, the major difference between this and the "Team Canada" project, is that here the teams will be randomly generated from the subscriber players. In Team Canada the teams are country based. I think both of these ideas are very nice, though I don't think we should be working on the movies for both projects at the same time, could be a little too much to do.

Very nice dragons you have there Zurreco! Especially that Dragonzord. :) And instead of having "ranks" (I can't come up with a better word for it right now) like "lurker", "user", "player" and so on, we should all have dragonnames! I mean, come on, wouldn't it be cool if all players were called "Trogdor wannabe" or something like that. Bisqwit could maybe be called "coder, admin, Dragonzord". Lurkers could be "Very tiny baby dragon" and users could be like "Evil black dragon". I think Ninjas should be called "Trogdor". Oh, and the site should be renamed to "Dragon-assisted console dragon-movies." I think that will make it much clearer to people how these movies are made ;) We should really make an official dragon-day for this site, where we implement all these ideas!

For those who don't know, I'm not reviving this topic for no apparent reason, Guybrush is currently planning a run for this, that's why I'm posting here now. Elevator action... I haven't played this game much, but from what I remember it's kind of repetitive, running around floors shooting thugs dressed in suits. :) But maybe it could be a pretty cool TAS. I'll wait some more with judging this until I see your first WIP, Guybrush, I think it can be pretty cool to watch. :)

Good to hear that you liked what I've done! I'll probably redo some of it, for example I think it's possible that you that jump through the first dragon as well, plus there are a few other things I want to try out. Thanks for telling me about the protection from evil spell, SeNn, I'll try it out to see if I can get it to work :) And to answer Zalien's questions: Ah, yes you're right that I need Goldmoon alive to kill the last boss. I'll redo the run some to keep her alive for that. And about avoiding the shots from the green fish guys, I actually came up with that idea when I got to the fourth one, and was too lazy to redo the run to see if it could save any time on the first ones. I'll work some more on this later on today, I'll get back to you soon.

I'm signing up on this too. Has it been decided yet what game we're going to do?

I wonder why I haven't checked out this thread before? I just watched your latest WIP, Sami. Really high quality, I must say. It's been quite a while since I played this game, but you seem to have found loads of shortcuts, I was almost annoyed in the beginning of the movie because you found so many "W-barrells" that took you to the end of the level. I kinda wanted to see you play those levels :) So to put things short, great job so far, I'll check back on this thread daily from now on. I hope you get another WIP up soon, Sami! :)

Hey all. I watched this some time ago and I also noticed some stuff that could be improved. So, bored as I was that day, I started doing a testrun of this game myself, using a whole new set of tactics than SeNn does. Here's what I got so far: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/473/randil_heroes.fcm All comments are of course welcome. I've run into a problem though. You know the dragon that SeNn jumps through in the sewers? Well, I can't seem to get that to work... I've come to the conclusion that you have to open the menu before doing it, that's the trick for getting this to work. Anyway, if someone feels up to it, I would really appreciate some help with how to get through the dragon (I think it's a dragon, could be a wyvern or something). Maybe you find what I've done so far at least somewhat entertaining. I know this game sucks, but it makes a somewhat nice TAS none the less. Well, enjoy the movie. EDIT: Oh yeah, my run is so far 42.05 seconds (2523 frames) faster than SeNn's run.

Dragons, eh? Here's the king of the dragons then. And I don't mean Bahamut from Final Fantasy, I mean Trogdor the Burninator! Those of you who have seen the webcomic Homestarrunner knows what I'm talking about! :) Isn't he cute?

Here are two fcm's to show what I mean. This one is my run so far: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/469/Paperboy%20%28U%29.fcm As you can see, the first paper refill appears around frame 1800. Compare that one with this movie: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/471/no_throwing_paperboy.fcm In that movie I don't throw a single paper, and thus, for some reason, the paper refill appears first around frame 2200, 400 frames later. I have also made a movie that wastes all 10 papers at the beginning of the run, and in that movie the paper refill appears on frame 2200 too, 400 frames later than in the run. So the paper refill around frame 1800 does not appear because I've thrown a few papers. I'll do some more testing around this, if I'm lucky I could even make that last paper refill appear earlier on Monday, so that I don't end up with 3 unused papers. EDIT: I forgot, it might be added that these two movies that you can download start at the exact same time from the start menu, so in that aspect they are identical.

I think I stated earlier in the thread that it seems the only way to luck manipulate paper placement is based on the frame that you are spawned.
Ah yes, you did. I've been playing aroudn with luck manipulation in this game some more, and it seems (I'm not certain, going to check it out some more) that you can affect where the pile of papers turn up by not throwing them away at certain points. For example, I managed to get some papers to turn up a lot later by not throwing any papers at all, but when I replayed that part and threw papers at stuff, the papers turned up sooner. This only happened once though, so I'll check it out some more.

Good job, Tailz! Really interesting movie, this game is well suited for TAS I think. It was really fun seeing you kick those soldiers butts, as if they were helpless kittens :) Voting YES!

Yes, I agree with Leon. I hope you get a new WIP up at least pretty soon, I really want to see the rest of the run! I urge you to continue this run as soon as possible! :)

All right, doing a run that does not get all the S-coins will be fine. As you said, it will be somewhat faster, and I think it's better that you continue on what you have and complete it, than not doing this at all :) I wish you good luck one again! :) A small question though, if you do the movie that way, how many of the rooms in the game will you play? Do you have to go through every room or can you skip some?

Thanks Tailz! I'm not sure I understand what you mean, but I'll try to answer this anyway :) As you can see in the run, the only obstacles I can throw papers at after getting the last ten papers are the 4 windows and that grey rock. The problem is that there can't be more than (I think) 4 papers out at the same time, this makes it impossible to get rid of all 10 in the end. The best thing would be if the pile of papers turned up a little earlier, but I don't know if it's possible to luck-manipulate such a thing. Maybe all of this didn't make any sense if I missunderstood your question :)

What differences would this make? If the only differences between collecting the S-coins and not collecting the S coins is that you get the best ending when collecting all of the S coind, I, personally, would want to see all S-coins collected. I would rather see a movie that is 15 seconds longer, if it gets all S-coins and thus the best ending. This is of course, if the S-coins are not way out of the way. But if getting the S-coins doesn't waste any noticable amount of time, I suggest you get them. But this is just my opinion.

Okay, I have the first WIP done. As you'll notice, I often throw 3 papers at a time into the mailboxes. This is because you get 750 points for each one of these, so doing this gives you 2250 points per delivery instead of the normal 750. Perhaps you, the viewer, find this less entertaining than throwing the papers at obstacles, in that case I'll redo Monday and throw papers at trashcans and stuff like that instead. Two other notes are: 1. It's not possible to get rid of the dog withour throwing a paper at him, that's why I have to waste one paper on this. 2. I really, really tried to throw all of the papers at the end, but I couldn't throw more than 7 out of 10 papers. So I'm left with 3 papers in the end :( But this isn't sloppyness, this is just bad placement of the pile of papers. All comments are of course welcome on this! Oh yeah, here's the movie: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/469/Paperboy%20%28U%29.fcm

Could you tell me some fun games to do a TAS??
There are a few tips on games that don't have a TAS yet here Another thing you can do is go to www.gamefaqs.com and go scroll through their lists of games. They have sorted them after genre, so perhaps you can find something you like there! Oh, and there is a thread in the NES forum that discuss games that haven't been done yet, you may find something there. Here is the thread: Top games that haven't been done yet (for NES) There could also be similiar thread for other consoles, perhaps you can find them if you search around some. I can't come up with any game in particular at the moment, it depends a lot on what console you're planning to do a run for. I hope these tips help out, and that you don't take a too long break from this. Good luck! :)

This was a sad surprise... Please reconsider, Guybrush. I was really looking forward to this, and I know a lot of other people were too, as you can see. So as daniayaw and Tailz said, take a break and clear your head from this for a while. I know it can be a pain to have to redo a run, but that happens quite often... At least for me :) But believe me when I say this, the ending result is almost always worth it. Your run so far shows great quality and creative solutions to the puzzles, don't let this drawback stop you from making this run! So please, Guybrush, don't give up on this yet! I really hope you change your mind and continue this. *casts "charm" on Guybrush and tells him to continue this* ;)

It still looks good to me :) I'm kind of in a hurry right now, so I didn't check very carefully for flaws or anything, but by first glance it looked just fine. And I really don't want to nag here, but as I said earlier, you could jump up to that pillar around frame 7000 without falling down first. This would probably save around 2-3 seconds. Perhaps this could be hex-edited into the movie? I can understand you if you don't want to redo the whole movie because of this little thing. I'll watch though your movie again more carefully tomorrow when I have more time, and try to find other things to nag about, hehe ;) Good luck with your next WIP!

Hmm yes, a "best ending, fastest time" run would be cool to see too, but I'd still vote for a 100% run, simply because I still believe that it would be pretty short. And seeing all levels played is cooler than seeing only some of them, at least in my opinion :) And about fusing the clips together, I know that hanzou made a tool that could do this, he made a few fcm's using this. He's really helpful, so if you ask him kindly, I believe he might help you out. But you have to realize that often it's not as easy as to just fuse the clips together, there could be factors that depend on which frame you enter a room, stuff like enemy placement and movement. I'm not good at this stuff, but I think it's possible to get this to work. And a tips, from experience I've learned that it's often very good to redo a run, when redoing a run you often find new things that can be improved. So if you have no luck fusing the clips together, I believe it to be a pretty good idea to redo the run, implementing all new strategies. But of course it would be good if someone fuses your clips together. So they're both good ideas :) Good luck with this, either way!

Your run looks very good, Guybrush! I found some small stuff that could be improved in it though, but generally it looked very nice. Here's what caught my eye: On level 4-1 you can get on top of that pillar without slowing down. Here's how I did it: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/455/mighty_bomb_jack_trick1.fcm Another thing that is worth to notice here is that I try to be as high up in the air as possible when I'm about to fall down to exit through the door. Since you accellerate when falling down, it's preferable to be at the highest possible height before falling downwards in a situation like this. On level 4-2 for example, I got it 9 frames faster because I started falling downwards when I was higher up in the air, thus accellerating more and not wasting as much time getting blocked by the wall. Ther were a few places where this could be done better, but I don't think it could save more than perhaps 4-5 seconds, if done perfectly. I hope these tips helps, looking forward to the next WIP! :)

Thanks a lot, adelikat. :) I'll probably redo this though, since I have some new ideas on what to throw papers at. Also, I'm gonna ride a lot closer to objects and enemies (if you could call them that) to show off a little more... I will also prefer to hit smaller objects with papers instead of larger ones, simply because it's more challenging to do so on console. I have some stuff to do IRL this weekend, so I'm not sure I'll be able to get a WIP up until around monday, but be patient :) I have already done some planning on how to play Monday, and I'll get this going more seriously after this weekend. Oh, and since both adelikat and hanzou would prefer if I skip the bonus tracks, I'll do so. I'll just smash into the wall when it starts or something. :) I'll probably do one on the last day though, just to show off. I'll get back to you on this around monday, then!
