Eeh, I may be way off here, but it sounds to me like you're not aware that Walker Boh has already made a TAS of this. Here's the link to it if anyone's interested: http://tasvideos.org/movies.cgi?id=269 As I said, I jus got the impression that you didn't know this, I apoligize if I missunderstood your post. But maybe Walker's run could be improved? Do you know anything that can be improved in your run, Walker Boh?

omg, how do you find out things like that?! XDD
I just have an eye for things like that. I watched it many, many times at full speed and came to the conclusion that it could be done exactly 13 frames faster :) Hehe, but on a more serious note, I actually watched the beginning of Guybrush's movie with frame advance and took notes on what frame level 1 started for him. Then while recording the short playthrough I posted on level 1, I checked how fast I managed to get past the startmenu. It's pretty common that many TAS can be done slightly faster on the startmenu, the key to doing it the fastest way is using frame advance and try frame per frame :) And you should switch to FCEU 0.98.13, Guybrush, I haven't noticed many differences myself, but one thing that I found different was that the turbo buttons work a lot better than on 0.98.12 :) So switching would be a good choise. And even though the flying thing didn't speed up things on level 1, perhaps it could speed up stuff in other levels? It could be worth checking out at least. Good luck with your upcoming WIP! DeHacked's microstorage is up now, so get it uploaded ASAP :)

Is it possible to luckmanipulate which kind of block that will fall down next, like in the NES version where you could pause the game to do so? I think that could be very useful. Maybe this is frame-dependant? MattyXB wrote:
@ Randil question 2: I think its impossible to take out 4 rows with one block. You can't get so high in this Level 9 Hearth (so not only 9, its more like Level 19). I have try it myself for a time. You have near no controll over the blocks at this speed. Maybe with much work and much more training its possible to make 2 or 3 lines. Or later when many is done 4. But at the beginning most not possible
Well, isn't difficult and almost impossible things in games solved with tool assistance? ;) If it can be done, and is faster (I don't know if it even theoretically can be done, as you said, or if it's faster) then it should be done, even if it takes 1000 rerecords to get it right. Oh yes, I'll watch these new movies later on today, and comment on them then. Gotta get to school now. :)

I won't vote right now, since I have some questions about this run that I would like to be answered first. There are also some comments here too :) 1. You should REALLY do something about your authors comments. It's WAY too short. Are you sure you read the submission instructions? Here's a link if you didn't: http://tasvideos.org/SubmissionInstructions.html#submission_instructions_ 2. Are you sure that it's as fast as possible? :) A hard question to answer perhaps, but I mean, compare this to the NES Tetris run and you can see a lot of differences. First of all, are you sure it's not faster to get a full "Tetris" (take out 4 rows with one block) instead of doing as you do right now, taking out one or two rows at a time? Perhaps your way is faster, I haven't tried it out :) 3. Do you speed up the blocks so they fall faster as soon as you can? It seemed they could be accellerated a little better. 4. I'm pretty sure that you in the beginning could set all the options (the level and high) a bit faster. Use frame advance here. Yeah, that's all I can think of for now. It was fun watching my childhood game get beaten so fast, but I'm sure it can be done even faster. I hope you improve this! EDIT: After watching through this again, I have to vote no on this. I didn't know that you used 0 rerecords either. As Omega said, read the "Why and how" page before submitting anything. I hope you improve this though, and this time with tool assistance ;)

Looks good so far, Guybrush. I had an idea on improving a room, but my idea turned out to be exactly as fast as in your current run. :) Keep it up! EDIT: I have found out two things: 1. You could start the game 13 frames faster: First, press start on frame 0 (with that I mean that you should press down the start key on frame 0, then frame advance to the next frame while holding down start) and then press start again on frame 10. This is 13 frames faster. 2. Using the turbo buttons on the emulator is really neat in this game! if you hold down the "turbo A" button (so that A is pressed down 30 times per second), you will practically fly without falling! At least it takes a long time to fall down if you press A this fast. I tried uploading a movie on DeHacked's microstorage to show this, but the microstorage seems to be temporary down... So I'll post it on my other server, though it will be in a zip file. Here is the movie. Note that it only plays the first level, and that level is done exactly as fast as in Guybrush version. Here's the link to the movie: http://files.upl.silentwhisper.net/upload3/trick1.zip I hope it can be of help, perhaps you were already aware of this.

You mean it's F12 in the version of 0.98.13 Nitsuja edited because the first ten F keys are now tied to savestates by default, right?
Yep, I don't know if it's like that in the normal 0.98.13, I've just played nitsujas edited version. But you're right probably right about that, I just downloaded nitsujas 0.98.13 recently, but if I remember correctly most F-keys are used up by savestate buttons. So that's probably why it has been changed to F12.

As far as I remember, the training courses always look the same. So I agree that maybe I should just throw it in on the last day. I'll start planning how to play Monday later on tonight. If you have anything in particular you want to have implemented, such as hitting a special garbage can or something, just tell me :)

Oh allright, but it's F12 on version 0.98.13 ;) I usually upload .jpg's on this site: http://upl.silentwhisper.net/ It's free, all you need to do is register first. After you've registered I think you can figure how to upload your images. If not, just ask me. :)

And here's a couple of answers: "What happened to your pb.zip WIP?" To be honest, I have no idea :) It should still be on the site where I uploaded, because I have no memory of deleting it. Unfortunately I had the WIP on my old computer, which broke down... Perhaps adelikat or someone else who downloaded and watched the WIP could post it here. "have you thought about continuing work on this run?" Well, it was pretty fun doing this, even though it's not very exciting as a TAS perhaps. I guess I could give this another try. But I'll redo it from scratch in that case, there were some stuff I was thinking about redoing anyway, so I'll start over. I'll get a WIP up here soon, and hopefully there are still some interest in seeing this get done! :) I have some questions too, before I start making this run: Should I play the bonus part after each level? If I aim for fastest time possible, I should skip these parts, but on the other hand they could be interesting to see. What do you think? "Besides, I think I am a bit weary of Lolo puzzles for the time being." Yes. Me too. Too much thinking! :) EDIT: I just remembered something. If you press up+down in this game, you will go forward at top speed, but the wheels on your bike won't turn! It looks pretty cool in my opinion. If you want to, I could make the run riding the bike like that.

I vote for a full run of this game. so no warps. The warpful run was interesting, but I think that a full run will be more interesting. How long do you think a warpless version would be, Guybrush? I never beat this game, so I have no idea! :) Oh yes, please post your progress in this thread. I will happily watch and give feedback on it as much as I can. Good luck!

I agree with Angerfist, this has been quite a day for the TAS-community. :) You know I've watched pretty much all of your WIPs up until now, Vatchern, so I don't feel like I have to explain why this is an obvious YES. Another point on which I agree with Angerfist is that this should get a star: It's very well played, shows off amazing tricks and possibilities with the physics-engine in megaman, and I could make the list a lot longer, but it's getting kind of late and I should really go to sleep. :) I think I have to plan a "TAS-watching"-day with some friends soon, seeing how many new amazing runs that have been made recently. To sum things up in two words: total ownage! *starts button mashing the YES-button* :) PS: Just a tips, you might want to add in the author's comments that 2608 frames is 43,47 seconds. I for one didn't do the 2608/60 calculation in my head, and I think people will get a better perspective on the improvement if it's measured in seconds. Just a tips.

Allow me to throw yet another YES vote on this. :) Very nice work, my favourite part was on the third stage, where you practically flew above the entire level. Pure awesomeness. Three, umm I mean, two thumbs up! :)

Really nice run so far. Tell me, how much faster than nitsuja's run is your current run (up to destroying Neon Tiger), FractalFusion? And do you intend to submit it, or is it more like a test run? I think it's more than good enough to get published, if you keep up that quality. And I'm also a little confused as to how this is organized... Who will make the final run for this? Because both FractalFusion and Graveworm post WIPs now and then. Anyway, I'm really looking forward to the final result! I've played this game a lot as a kid, and it gets funnier and funnier each time I see it get beaten faster and faster! :)

Yeah, I'm using XP pro. And I'm sorry for being a total noob with this, but the .exe-files aren't working for me. When I try to open them normally they close immediately. So I tried running them in command prompt, but nesmock.exe doesn't work with command prompt at all (all it said was nesmock: invalid parameters), and nescat.exe seems to work, but all command prompt prints out when I open it is first the location of the .exe-file, then it says "<clips file><output file>". Help please! :)

I'm really not a programmer myself, but this seems pretty interesting. If it weren't for the lag, I agree that it would be a great idea to paste together several .fcm's into a full game run, if it weren't for all the lag. That way everyone could contribute to the full run, pretty much like we did with Lolo 2. What I wish for now is an "easy-to-use" program that can be used to glue together several fcm's. How did you glue together these fcm's, hanzou? As far as I know there's is not such a program available for download anywhere, I've heard rumors of a tool that Genisto made some time ago, but I never got my hands on it. Anyway, good job with gluing together all our fcm's hanzou! :) If the program you used for this is fairly easy to use, do you think you could post a link to it, please? PS: Thanks for converting windeu's run to fcm. Now I can watch it in (at least in my opinion) the more stable FCEU instead of Famtasia. :)

A short movie, but entertaining non the less. Good job with this, Guybrush! Perhaps it could be improved some, but it's still quite a great accomplishment. Voting YES.

And mine too ;) Hint to all who haven't watched and voted on this yet: Watch and vote on this! :) If you're tired of watching blue Lolo in TAS after TAS, use a graphic hack or try out the IPS patch hanzou posted earlier in this thread.

Excellent job, hanzou! Very fastpaced, and you did a great job with all the maneuvering. I know it can be difficult moving around on console, but I'm guessing it gets easier with frame advance. Voting YES! :)

Could you post the WIPs you made with famtasia, the ones you've timed, Baxter and Bag? If you still have them, that is... Other than that, I'm still revising all levels to see if I can find the improvements you're talking about Baxter... If you don't have a WIP available, could you please explain what levels that can be improved? As I said, I know that 2-3 can be improved, but I'm still working with the other ones. Thanks in advance. Bag: What is this trick to skip the rainbow egg scene? I don't think I've heard of it...

You watched Windeu's run, right?
Actually no, but now that you mentioned it, I found it in through the Search function. I'll take a look at it right now. But after reading Baxters comments about it, it doesn't seem to be that good... but I guess I'll just have to reinstall famtasia and watch this. Thanks for the tip. I did watch the speedrun down at SDA though, which was pretty nice in spite of two deaths. EDIT: While watching windeu's run I noticed that 2-3 could be done faster. By grabbing the top left heart last. 2-3 was improved by 46 frames, yay.

I'm reviving a topic that's been dead for a while now... So, now that there is a Lolo 1, a Lolo 2 and a Lolo 2 pro levels run, why not make a Lolo 3 run as well? I'm just pretty much wondering if anyone would be interested in seeing a full run of this game. For those who don't know, this is by far the longest Lolo game, a full run would probably be at least about an hour in length. I've made a WIP too, to show off what it would look like. I know about the twitching glitch, but since it takes a lot longer to make a run while walking like that, I just settled with normal walking. It's exactly as fast, anyway. Here's what I got so far: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/381/Adventures%20of%20Lolo%203%20%28U%29.fcm Perhaps everyone has had enough of Lolo games right now, but if there is some interest in this, perhaps I'll continue. :) Any comments are welcome. By the way, have you been working on this run yourself lately, Bag of Magic Food? You posted a few short WIPs before, but since you haven't been updating this in quite some time, I figured you gave this up.

I'm definitely voting YES on this. I don't think I have to evaluate why, you already know :). Once again, great job, Angerfist and DeHacked.

Holy crap! This was unexpected! Truly an interesting and well done run, to be honest I think this run was in a way more interesting than Genisto's run. Though it's hard to compare the two. There were so many great and entertaining parts on this run that I don't even know on what I should start praising you for :) I vote YES on this, I would vote YES a thousand times if I could. Extremely amazing and wonderful stuff. One of the best TAS I've seen, give this a star! PS: I had no problems downloading and watching this, so the submission process seems to have worked fine.

Hm, maybe I should try to improve 3-4 again... Nah, I'll wait 'til Sunday.
Allrighty, I'll hold on with the run until sunday in that case, but after sunday I'm continuing with it. So good luck with improving 3-4! It should prove quite difficult though, I tried using Rocky twice on that stage and it's really hard to do. Plus the fact that there's almost no backtracking in the version of 3-4 I have now... But anyway, good luck! EDIT: I've been trying to beat 3-4 for quite some time now by using Rocky to cross the middle part twice, and I have run into a problem with it. Crossing the middle part once with Rocky is really easy. In fact, Rocky's movement turns out so nice that you don't have to wait one single frame for him to get into position. The trouble starts after you crossed the middlepart with him once. No matter how you do it, after you have walked above the Rocky, he always walks up and then walks right. This can not be manipulated, the only way to hinder this is to place an emerald block somewhere close to the middle to block his path. But doing this wastes a lot of time, and makes this strategy slower than doing it as I did it in the current improvement. After he has walked to the right, he does not come into a good position for you to walk across the middle part again for a long time, in fact, he got trapped in the upper right part of this level when I played it. So unless someone proves me wrong, I think I'll stick with the current strategy. But since people always seem to prove me wrong when I'm confident on something, I guess I'll sooner or later have to submit :) I could post an fcm to show what I mean if you want to get a better hunch of what I'm talking about. EDIT 2: More progress. I just finished floor 4. WIP: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/get/344/randil_lolo2_fullrun.fcm EDIT 3: Floor 5 has been done now too. Continuing with floor 6....
